00:00You
00:30Last year, we had major question marks with Ohio State.
00:39They lost their fourth straight time to their arch-rival, Michigan,
00:43but heading into the college football playoff,
00:45they beat four of the best teams in the country
00:47to win their first national title in a decade.
00:51Can Ohio State repeat as national champions?
00:55I will tell you I'm not going to take them to the repeat.
00:57Two new coordinators, new quarterback, a whole lot of new names on defense.
01:00I'm not going to take them to win the title.
01:02They did lose 14 players who were drafted in the 2025 NFL draft.
01:08There is a road where they can still win the Big Ten.
01:11Ohio State's always recruiting great in the secondary,
01:13but we're just not going to know until we know.
01:27I don't really do too much.
01:36I like to just stay to myself.
01:39I don't really go out, you know, live the normal college life.
01:43This rubber band ball, it started when I first got here.
01:47I was so bored when I first got here in January.
01:50It was cold out, so, like, there was only two months going on.
01:55I was like, all right, I'm going to do a rubber band ball.
01:58It was a process, you know, getting used to, you know, college, obviously.
02:02Used to living by myself, having to wake up by myself.
02:06I mean, there was a lot of things that was new.
02:08Going to class on campus, the football part of it.
02:11I was never one of those kids that was homesick.
02:15I obviously could have stayed in Texas.
02:17I could have went to a school that was, you know,
02:19no more than two hours or 45 minutes away from my home.
02:23So, you know, I chose to come 17, 18 hours away.
02:28This is what I wanted.
02:30You know, I believe that up here is where I can play my best ball.
02:34I came up here to better my family, you know, just provide.
02:39I wouldn't be here without my family.
02:55My name is Devin Sanchez.
02:56I'm a cornerback at The Ohio State University.
03:06I grew up in Houston, Texas, playing Little League football.
03:09Both my parents played sports, so, I mean, I was kind of, you know, just into it from the jump.
03:15We've kind of always had, you know, this bond because he's a middle child, I'm a middle child.
03:23We connect and we're each other's comfort, I think.
03:26She ran track, played volleyball.
03:29You know, her and my dad kind of get into it about where I get my speed from.
03:32You know, we laugh about that now, but we were going to, you know, create that perfect kid.
03:40Man, I come from a tough place.
03:51You can play ball or, you know, get lost in, you know, the streets.
03:57I used my experience to, you know, help guide my boys.
04:03My dad played corner, UTEP.
04:05He's the reason I play corner now.
04:07I learned everything from him.
04:09He was my first coach, first quarterback coach, first trainer.
04:12He was my first everything.
04:13You know, he just stays on me.
04:15It's funny.
04:16Daniel was a coach, but Devin coached himself.
04:18Daniel would call plays.
04:20Devin would do what he wanted to do.
04:21You had him at quarterback.
04:22If he said, pass it to this person, if Devin saw it opening, he was going to run.
04:27So when Devin would get in the car, he learned how, I'm not arguing with dad.
04:30Because if I don't say anything, he won't say anything.
04:33I mean, because they were butt heads.
04:35It's hard coaching, and, you know, I respect it.
04:38I look back at it like, man, if I didn't listen to him, I wouldn't be here.
04:42You know, I wanted to be a receiver.
04:44I think everybody wants to be a receiver.
04:46But he had to talk to me when I was younger, and this is the real reason why I wanted to
04:49be corner.
04:50When you go to high school camps, you'll have 200 receivers, and you'll have, like, 15
04:56corners.
04:57There ain't too many guys out here that really want to do it.
04:59And if you really lock in at it and, you know, become like what I've become, you'd really
05:04be great at it.
05:06I watched Devin Sanchez, and I watched his high school tape.
05:09I saw Christian Gonzalez, who's now a Pro Bowl corner for the New England Patriots.
05:14When it comes to Sanchez, the height, the weight, the speed, the ability, it's all
05:20there.
05:21You could see why he was five-star.
05:25I started getting offers my freshman spring.
05:28That's when I got my Alabama offer my freshman year.
05:31I mean, to be perfectly honest, first time we stepped in Saban's office, I almost cried.
05:35I'm just, you know, this is football dad, right?
05:38Well, we knew when he got the offer from Coach Saban that it was real.
05:41And, you know, it kind of took off from there.
05:44At the end of my freshman year, I had around 15 offers.
05:47And then my sophomore year, that's when they kind of, the rest of them just started coming
05:50in.
05:51Devin's kind of like my little science project, right?
05:54You know, I had a list.
05:56If you don't get these certain five, six schools, you are not who you think you are as a position
06:01player.
06:01These are the DBU schools.
06:03Texas, Bama, USC, LSU, Washington, and Ohio State.
06:11Those were the six schools that I said, you got to have these if we're going to be considered
06:14to be a top DB in the country.
06:17Towards the end of my sophomore year was when Ohio State came.
06:21The very first trip there, I saw something in my son's eye.
06:30Devin then says, I think this is what I want.
06:33He called them.
06:34It was a sign and commit.
06:36My junior year, the All-American Bowl goes.
06:38I commit publicly.
06:39Where will you be playing your college football in 2025?
06:42For the next three to four years, I will be taking my talents to
06:45the Ohio State University.
06:51Ohio State brings in the number one cornerback recruit in the 2025 high school class
06:59and five-star Devin Sanchez.
07:01Arguably the best player in this class for Ohio State.
07:03Committed early.
07:05Just keep an eye on him because I think he can really start an upward trajectory.
07:16In December, I'm leaving early.
07:19I was packing my bags and ready to come up to Ohio State.
07:21I got here in January.
07:26I was on scout team that week.
07:28The practice for that national championship.
07:31It's Ohio State.
07:33Champions of college football.
07:36They're winning their national championship run.
07:39You know, I got to see that.
07:41I mean, I posted something on Instagram.
07:42They done played on the biggest level that you can get to.
07:46I'm really here.
07:47I'm really playing for Ohio State.
07:48The college life was expected.
08:03Like, I wasn't expecting to have a whole bunch of free time.
08:07Yeah, I mean, it's the same really process, routine, almost every day.
08:15I feel like I'm adjusted to the program and everything.
08:21But that was how it was for me going from middle school to high school, too.
08:25Like, my freshman year wasn't so great.
08:27Like, it was rough.
08:28But then, like, sophomore year, I was, like, all A's and B's and everything.
08:33So, but, yeah, I still feel like I'm adjusting.
08:37I had very high expectations for myself.
08:39And, like, I'm going to keep working hard until I see those expectations and goals that I had made for myself.
08:47I just love the physicality of the football, moving someone from point A to point B against their will.
08:55My name is Malachi Goodman.
08:56I play for Penn State.
08:58I play offensive line.
09:01People usually say, like, I'm a good offensive lineman because I'm able to move.
09:06Then move at my weight.
09:08I'm 6'5", and my weight is 3'15 right now.
09:12I have fun when I'm doing a competitive activity.
09:17Anything competitive, that's what I love.
09:20I didn't really get that much playing time as a sophomore because it was a lot of seniors that played,
09:26and I also think I wasn't better than them yet.
09:29But I would go on the field every day, hit the ladder, doing footwork stuff, trying to get my feet faster.
09:35His sophomore year here, he wasn't starting.
09:37But he just kept working and working, and, like, he went from a kid who wasn't starting,
09:41who started on his own, he earned it.
09:43And then he just kept getting better and better.
09:44And then you look up, and you're like, wow, this kid, you start watching the tape,
09:46and you're like, see what he just did?
09:48You know, he just reached a guy that was way outside of, like, with two steps.
09:58No, how do I find a senior team?
10:00He never made a senior team.
10:02Yeah, he probably didn't, because he was committed already.
10:07Just started from the beginning.
10:07So that's him on the left there on the screen.
10:11Most big guys can't block little guys like that.
10:14You've got to be athletic to do this.
10:15It looks easy, but when corners are in space, most big guys will miss.
10:21This, he's downing, takes the kid all the way to the other side of the field.
10:24And even in this league where, like, the best players play, you can see how big and quick he is.
10:28Right here, this guy's about to blitz.
10:30This kid will appear in his vision, and him without breaking stride right now is going to take it.
10:33He just took it in stride and blocks the blitzer.
10:36That's why it's going for a touchdown right now.
10:40That looks really easy.
10:41Most kids would have never saw it.
10:43It's amazing for a kid.
10:44Those are back-to-back plays in a game week through the season.
10:46It's not like a highlight tape.
10:48It shows you why he's as special as he is and why, as he keeps working, why there's no ceiling for him.
10:52Entering my junior year, when I started getting offers, I kind of saw it, like, I could really do this.
11:00I could really go to the NFL.
11:01I could go to big colleges and play at a high level.
11:06There was a lot of need and desire for a player like Malachi.
11:11So he had his choice in which university he wanted to go to.
11:17Through his recruiting process, everyone wanted to show him all these other things, like the game room, the whatever.
11:23Let's go out.
11:23Let's do this.
11:24He's like, I want to sit with the online coach, and I want to see kids and how they got better.
11:28That's all he cared about.
11:29Here we go.
11:30I chose Penn State because of the coaching staff.
11:32My online coach, Coach Trout, he's a developer.
11:35He gets people to where they want to be.
11:37And I'm going to be one of the greats in the NFL, ready to come up to Penn State and get ready to work so I can be where I want to be.
11:44You know, so Goodman's one of these guys who went from a good prospect to a really good prospect because he continued to grow.
11:51I mean, the guy's got a 6'11 wingspan.
11:53God does not make many people that size who move that well.
11:56That is an enormous, massive young man.
12:01Someone was nicknaming him Man Mountain.
12:04And I thought it was perfect.
12:06Just physical stature, right?
12:08But you can see how he carries it.
12:10He shows up to the All-Star Games, performs extremely well, and it was very obvious, like, oh, man, like, Penn State's got one here.
12:18I did do really well at the All-American game.
12:21I didn't really let up pressures, or I didn't give up a sack.
12:25Like, I didn't let up any yards for loss.
12:29People saw that, and they were like, okay, this guy's real.
12:33That's when I got my fifth star.
12:34I think I earned whatever rankings I have with the help of my mom.
12:55He was this little terror in the house, but he was a sweetheart, always, still is.
13:02It was a point where I kind of wanted to get him into, like, modeling, and that was the inspiration behind these pictures.
13:11So I went and got him a cute little outfit and took him to one of those photo places in the mall, because he was such an adorable—I mean, he's still super handsome.
13:20I mean, he's always had those dimples and a big smile, and I believe this was his first year of football.
13:29Playing football, he always had to play up.
13:32Based on your age, you can only be a certain amount of pounds, right?
13:36So he always had to play two levels up.
13:40He has put in so much work and dedication to finessing his craft, and now you want me to say that he got it from mom?
13:49I'll take it.
13:49I'll say it.
13:50He got it from mom a little bit.
13:53My mom's personality, she's outgoing.
13:56She plays a big role in my life.
13:58People like to call me a mama's boy.
13:59I am a mama's boy, so.
14:01We've always had a super close relationship.
14:05We talk about everything.
14:08I know that when he finds that young lady that is special, I'll be the first person that he calls and says,
14:16Mom, what do you think?
14:18Young ladies, beware.
14:20You got to pass the mama test first.
14:25Anything that anybody sends me, like NIL stuff, it got to go through her first.
14:29So I always send it to her.
14:32Yeah, she is basically my manager.
14:34She calls it a momager, so.
14:37I am a momager.
14:39Everything about him, his life, from when I get up in the morning checking emails, is checking his cell phone.
14:48You know, we have the documentary.
14:50He has an agent.
14:51And I just kind of need to stay on top of it, of course, so that way I can make sure he's doing what he needs to do.
14:58But I love it.
14:59I do.
14:59I do.
15:00This is where I spent the last 10, 11 years.
15:05I don't know.
15:07At some point, I'm just like, okay, he is really growing aggressively.
15:12This was at 10, right?
15:14And if you jump up six months later, and that's about, what, two inches maybe?
15:20By 12, he was already taller than me.
15:23I was already looking up to him.
15:27We want to see these big size 18 shoes.
15:31It's like a boat.
15:32I could probably put both of my feet in here.
15:35It was a challenge as his foot continued to grow.
15:39I think they only order up to size 13 in, like, the malls if you go to, like, a Reebok or what have you, any shoe store.
15:44And so I'm like, this is becoming more and more of a challenge to get shoes.
15:49Why don't you send a DM or something to Shaquille O'Neal?
15:53He wears, like, a size 21, 22, so maybe he can help us out and get some shoes.
15:58Malachi was like, absolutely not.
16:00I'm not going to DM Shaq asking him for shoes.
16:03And I'm like, well, we'll pay for the shoes.
16:05We just need a little help with how to acquire shoes this size.
16:10Not my problem anymore.
16:11Now it's Penn State's problem.
16:14Thank you, Penn State.
16:28We begin with the reigning champion, Ohio State, against Texas in Columbus.
16:35New faces abound.
16:37What a beautiful day for football.
16:38It's true.
16:39And early season matchup against two great football teams.
16:44Being a freshman, no matter how confident you are, when you walk into your first game,
16:50you're always going to think, am I where I'm supposed to be?
16:54Am I ready?
16:55I've played at such a high level for so long, but most of the competition that I've played
17:00against, it's not the same level of guys that I'm going to be going out and competing against
17:05now.
17:06Is my family prepared for what I'm about to get into?
17:10I'm really ready to see him in this scarlet and gray, and we've kind of all been waiting
17:25for this moment.
17:27And it came so quickly.
17:29You know, it was like, I feel like it was just January, we were dropping him off.
17:33Now it's time for the season to start.
17:35We kind of look at this game as just like the first box to check off for the season.
17:42Successfully get through this game, get your feet wet, get acclimated to this thing.
17:46And it's just one of the progressions that we want to kind of check off as we, you know,
17:51kind of move down the road here.
17:53And this is, you know, just the first step.
17:55My first game is against the number one team in the nation, Texas.
18:04I'm going to have the opportunity to be out there as a freshman.
18:08I was like, man, this is real.
18:15When you're actually running out, it's crazy.
18:18Just hear how loud it is.
18:19The stadium's shaking, smoke running.
18:21You got your teammate running out behind.
18:22You got the band playing.
18:23You got the fans screaming.
18:25You don't even know what to do.
18:26Like, I kind of like froze up.
18:27It was like, like, what do I do?
18:29It's like, do I just keep running?
18:31Do I jump?
18:33I'm out here.
18:34I'm on the field.
18:35One of the biggest stadiums in college football.
18:37I literally turned around and looked.
18:38I was like, I don't see an empty seat.
18:40This is crazy.
18:41There's literally no seat that's open.
18:46And it's been all about the defenses so far, Jim.
18:48Yeah, the Buckeye defense is able to force them out on downs.
18:50And Texas defense has been equally as good.
18:53So, it will be third down.
18:55Go!
18:55And we get early movement on the offensive line.
18:57That'll bring about penalty flag.
18:58Because Walt Turner, I was like, go in the game, go in the game.
19:01I went in the game.
19:02My first play was kind of that play.
19:04It was like, I'm really here.
19:05I'm really playing for Ohio State.
19:07Third and 11.
19:09Ball hit the Texas.
19:1148 for the Longhorns.
19:13Manning straight behind his center.
19:14Hudson out of the shotgun.
19:15Hits the snap.
19:16Back to throw from his 40.
19:17Manning looks.
19:18Fakes now screens it out left side.
19:19Baxter, who's got it at the 50-yard line.
19:21And that's where linebacker Sonny Stiles wrestles him down.
19:24And that will bring up Ford down.
19:27This is amazing.
19:28Like, just making plays, you know, from the jump.
19:30Horn and goal with the ball between the Texas 1 and 2.
19:33Hand-off goes to Donaldson.
19:36Nice center to the end.
19:36It's on for a touchdown.
19:38And Ohio State on the board first.
19:40Sand will pump that one deep down to left side.
19:43Tate with it.
19:44Take it down to the end.
19:45It's on for a touchdown.
19:46For an out-tate.
19:48Now it's like it's even louder.
19:52Cowboys has to be the loudest he's been all I've ever been right now.
19:56Snap to Manning.
19:57Manning looking, looking throws.
19:59That one going to the right corner of the end zone.
20:01Livingston caught for a score.
20:03At this point, it's 14-7.
20:06It got louder than those last two minutes.
20:08Third down.
20:09It's going to have to get some first downs here to end this thing.
20:11Sand to go on top with some pressure coming.
20:13Throws and it's caught left side.
20:14And it's in.
20:15It's tackled at the 30.
20:16Buck has a left punt.
20:17And I was out there again.
20:19Ohio State's going to have to earn it right now.
20:21Earn it on the defensive side of the football.
20:23Texas scores a touchdown.
20:25It's a whole different ball game.
20:26We're going to see if you're a freshman or not.
20:28Like, we're going to see what you do.
20:29First to 10, Texas to their own 15-yard line.
20:32And, you know, that first play, they ran an out route right at me.
20:36Pressure coming.
20:37Manning tosses up the left side.
20:39Incomplete for Wingo.
20:40He was covered by Devin Sanchez.
20:42And then they came back.
20:43They ran a wheel route.
20:45Urge Manning, who's back at his 6th to throw.
20:47He zips that one up the left side of the field.
20:49A wounded duck.
20:50But it's caught by Andres.
20:51A tight end tackle to the zone 45.
20:53Andres is knocked out.
20:54At corner, you know, it tells all the time you've got to have short-term memory loss.
20:59Because, like, yeah, you may get beat.
21:01But it's like, what you do after?
21:03Fourth at 5, Texas in the 50.
21:05Got to make this play right now.
21:07My man on the backside, I'm one-on-one.
21:09He can go to anybody on the field.
21:11Manning gets the snap.
21:14Drops it at 40.
21:15Flails the pass that's caught by Andres.
21:17He's tackled it shy of the conversion.
21:18And the Buckeyes will take over on down.
21:21And Ohio State's defense, which has stood strong all day,
21:25stands strongest when it's needed the most.
21:28And I was like, I literally just played the snaps.
21:31Number one fall here in Columbus.
21:3414-7.
21:35Ohio State defeats Texas.
21:36Now you got your feet wet.
21:38You done played a big game.
21:41Now it's only up from here.
21:54The full Saturday of college football
21:57is only three and a half hours old.
21:58And the number one team in the country's already lost.
22:03Yeah, Ohio State is loaded.
22:05There's a few teams that are loaded.
22:07Texas is still alive.
22:09But you're right.
22:09This is one of the teams everybody is looking at.
22:12Right now, Penn State looks like they're loaded for the same thing.
22:20Putting on the uniform.
22:21I'm just ready to work.
22:23I'm ready to play football.
22:25And just grind all day.
22:27Penn State, the New Lions might be the favorite to win the Big Ten right now.
22:31Last year, they went 13-3, made it all the way to the college football playoff semifinals before losing to Notre Dame.
22:39An heartbreaking game.
22:41The nucleus of last year's team is pretty much still intact.
22:45The expectation is always incredibly high, but there is this stigma around Penn State that they can never win the big game.
22:55Right now, on the depth chart, I'm going up against the one's defense, the two's defense.
23:04So I'm going up against Danai, best guys in college football, really.
23:09That's who I'm playing every day.
23:11Just getting better, that's a goal.
23:14There is definitely a lot of talent in the O-line position, especially left tackles.
23:18I'm not trying to be biased or right tackles in general.
23:21The Wolfpack and the Nittany Lions are kicking off.
23:30I really believe in, like, everything starts for the O-line.
23:35Touchdown, Penn State.
23:38So the whole unit has to be great in order for everyone else to be great.
23:42There's a lot of strength when it comes to the O-line for Penn State.
23:46And there's so much veteran leadership there that it's going to be difficult for a true freshman to start in that role.
23:54You routinely do see guys who are first-round picks not starting as true freshmen.
24:00I do think there's a bit of a, hey, man, this is real ball now.
24:03Like, every snap matters.
24:05If you let your guard down, you can get beat.
24:06And that gets our quarterback killed.
24:07So, like, it's a learning process.
24:10And now loads and goes to the end zone.
24:13Touchdown, Penn State!
24:16Now I see what it really takes to show up on the field.
24:22That's going to do it.
24:23The 46-11 final.
24:29Right after the game felt good.
24:30We got the win.
24:31And the team played great.
24:33My first game day experience was good.
24:36I'm a little down because I wasn't able to get on the field.
24:39But for the season ahead, I'm just working hard every day.
24:43Grinding.
24:44Keep getting better.
24:45It's one game at a time.
24:46Game one against Texas.
24:58Not many of the corners got a ton of snaps.
25:00So, Sanchez jumping the line as a five-star on defense.
25:04Part of my personal struggle with this is I'm his dad, but I'm always coaching.
25:13As soon as we get back to his place, I'm looking for film.
25:15You know, I'm all over YouTube trying to see what I can see, you know, trying to see what I missed.
25:21You know, live at the game and, you know, I'm always, you know, just looking for things that he can work on, you know, ways to help him and, you know, just try to help him get better.
25:32Part of this is, you know, part of this is, you know, again, I wanted to give my boys what I didn't have.
25:39You know, with Devin, we want him to make it.
25:41We need him to make it, right?
25:43You know, at the end of the day, we want to start like a Manning kind of thing.
25:47You know, Grandpa played, you know, the sons played, and now they're into that next generation.
25:51You know, this is kind of what I want for my boys.
25:53I want my boys to start that legacy of, you know, having an NFL family.
25:59You know, I can't wait for my kids to have kids so I can get back into, you know, take their kids and mold them into, you know, what I did with their dads.
26:10That's personally where my head is and where I want my boys to kind of go with this thing.
26:15How do you feel about the way the game went?
26:26Played as much as I did.
26:27I didn't expect to play that much, especially, you know, in that situation at the end, the two-minute drill where it was 14-7.
26:36But, I mean, it was fun just being out there for my first time.
26:40It was exciting for us, too.
26:41So, it was good for me just to get those jitters because I know my stomach was in knots.
26:48So, on that one play, though, would you think you could have did better?
26:54We was in cover two.
26:55Yeah, I was in cover two?
26:56I was pressure at the line, reroute.
26:58But didn't they switch?
27:00It was a tight end.
27:01He came out on the wheel.
27:02He wheeled, right?
27:03Yeah.
27:04I'm just helping the safety.
27:05That guy runs through your zone, wishes you'd done.
27:08What?
27:09Should have touched him.
27:09Touch him, cut him, cut him, cut him.
27:12I was already rerouting the receiver.
27:14And I just so happened to see the tight end come out behind me.
27:17So, I was like, I got to run with it.
27:19And then, if I'd have kept him in front of me, I probably could have played on a ball.
27:26You know, he's always taught Devin, you know, what he needed to do, how he needed to do it.
27:31And he was always a sponge from three years old, watching him start.
27:36It was hard growing up.
27:38It was hard.
27:39It was hard.
27:41We used to get into it all the time.
27:42You know, just calling me out of my room to go over plays and stuff like that.
27:50Where was the dry erase board?
27:51He would come into the room and Daniel would have the dry erase board.
27:55He'd pull it from under the bed.
27:58And he'd walk in like, no, not right now.
28:02Everything that you did then, you're doing now.
28:05And it's a hundred times more than that little stuff that we was doing back then.
28:12It was just to get you ready for all of that stuff.
28:18It's all just a process of course, like, learning it.
28:23You know, it's faster.
28:25You know, it's college.
28:26You know, it's not high school anymore.
28:27So, now it's time to step it up.
28:32I got to get a hat.
28:51I got to buy a hat.
28:58It's different.
28:58It's exciting.
28:59There's a lot of people.
29:02I'm still a rookie, so I'm trying to figure it out.
29:08Hello.
29:09I'm going to do the blue visor.
29:11The blue visor?
29:12Yes.
29:13The first game, I was hanging out with a lot of the freshman parents.
29:17But I said I needed to mix it up and get with some of the veterans so I could figure out the routine.
29:22Oh, that's too tight.
29:23Know when to walk down so we could see the young men, the players walk in.
29:27It's fun.
29:28It's exciting.
29:28I'm happy to have the opportunity to give them a hug.
29:32And the quest for a Big Ten national three-peat continues here in State College, Pennsylvania today.
29:49He's on the sideline, I keep looking for him, seeing where he is.
29:58Hopefully they run the score up and maybe he'll get the opportunity to get a snap.
30:02I know that he wants to show what he has and the reason that he's here.
30:06But it's going to take more hard work and he's going to have to continue to grind and he has everything it takes.
30:13A shuttle run in the backfield for Pena.
30:15Oh, that's window dressing for Singleton.
30:19Priority to get him unlocked.
30:20I think for him, his mindset is like, I got it, I can do this.
30:25But in this environment, this is a high school, you have to lean on those who come before you to make it happen.
30:31The natives are happy.
30:45So are the people rooting for points.
30:48These are the chances for the guys in the field right now for Penn State to say,
30:52hey, I'm not sitting for the rest of the year.
30:55Less than a minute to go.
30:57And Villanova, Stonewall.
30:59Outside run, shut down.
31:06Maddox on the final play of the game.
31:09Rolling right.
31:11What's he got?
31:13Maddox lets it fly.
31:15It is!
31:16What a catch by Brandon Binkowski.
31:19No shutout for Penn State.
31:21The play has been reviewed.
31:22The quarterback was inbound.
31:24Touchdown.
31:29I was thinking when it got down to the last two minutes you might have went in, because I thought he was swapping out.
31:49The line, it's all good.
31:54So it's good.
31:56Right?
31:57Yeah, I gotta go to the facilitation.
31:59I know.
31:59You didn't get any point?
32:01I didn't.
32:02You didn't want to think, okay?
32:04I know that he's frustrated, right?
32:10He understands that when you chose Penn State, you're not gonna go as a freshman playing as a tackle and be the starter.
32:22It's not, it's the likelihood of that for the position that he plays.
32:26It's just not likely.
32:27Because this was almost a blowout.
32:30Did they let them keep that six points?
32:33Or no?
32:35Because I didn't understand what was going on at the end of the game.
32:39Do I want to get on the field?
32:40Yes.
32:41But do I understand that I'm not ready?
32:45Possibly?
32:45Yes.
32:46I do understand that.
32:47Do I understand that I need to work harder?
32:49Yes.
32:51But I definitely need to outwork the person or the people that are in front of me right now so I can be where I want to be.
32:57I used to cringe because I know how he thinks and he wants to be on the field.
33:03So I'm like, oh my God.
33:04Like, I would be freaking out in the stands when he's not on the field, he's on the sideline.
33:09I'm freaking out when he's in the game.
33:12It doesn't matter.
33:12I'm freaking out regardless.
33:13How old are you?
33:14Eight.
33:15Eight?
33:15What's your name?
33:17I think to myself, like, what am I doing wrong?
33:19Like, maybe sometimes I doubt myself.
33:22But I also got to realize, like, we have a lot of guys in the whole line room for one.
33:27A lot of talent, a lot of guys that are going to the NFL.
33:31But there definitely is times of, like, frustration and, like, what do I need to do better?
33:37You know we're going to Gigi.
33:38Yeah.
33:39Okay.
33:40Watch out.
33:40During high school, my freshman year, it was just, like, I was trying to get on the field at first.
33:50And then, like, my sophomore year, I wanted to play.
33:53I started working, started getting an office.
33:55And I was like, all right, this is, like, actually possible.
33:58So, I thought it, I saw it through, did it.
34:02Now I'm here.
34:03So, time to repeat the whole process.
34:06But I know I got to work for it.
34:07It's not going to be given to me.
34:09So, I'm going to wait my turn and just keep working hard until I get on the field.
34:13So, I can't talk about your path without getting emotional.
34:23I'd say if I had his attention and focus when I was in my 20s, my, like, 25, I would have just, you know, probably been running a company at this point.
34:33His head coach from high school has said to him, like, if you wanted to start as a freshman, you had other options.
34:44And we absolutely did.
34:45We talked about it.
34:46And he's like, no, no, that's not the road that I want.
34:51I want this road because I know Coach Phil, Coach Trout, can develop me and get me to where I want to go.
34:59So, you know, like, I get it, but I'm not sure how I feel about him staring me down like that.
35:06Like, this is a cool place.
35:09They have a lot of decor in this restaurant.
35:13It's a nice restaurant.
35:15Yeah.
35:16All right.
35:17Appreciate it.
35:18That is awesome.
35:19Appreciate you.
35:19You guys enjoy it.
35:20Appreciate you.
35:23To Heavenly Father, we thank you for this opportunity.
35:26And thank you for this family here today.
35:30Love this young man.
35:32Always here just to lift him up.
35:34Lord, I ask for your blessings.
35:36Amen.
35:37Amen.
35:38Amen.
35:40Nice.
35:41And a sequel.
35:42It's not its first.
35:43Yes.
35:44I can get another Shirley Temple, please.
35:46Yes.
35:46Yes.
35:46Yes.
35:46Yes.
35:46Yes.
35:46Yes.
35:47Yes.
35:47Yes.
35:47Yes.
35:47Yes.
35:48Yes.
35:48Yes.
35:49Yes.
35:49Yes.
35:49Yes.
35:50Yes.
35:50Yes.
35:51Yes.
35:51Yes.
35:52Yes.
35:52Yes.
35:53Yes.
35:54Yes.
35:54Yes.
35:55Yes.
35:55Yes.
35:56And when I first moved here, it kind of started, and then it grew bigger.
36:07All my grandkids are athletic, so I decided to do this, you know, to keep them motivated.
36:14This is a North Shore ball, so I had that sign, and then that's another Ohio State ball,
36:18and he signed it for me.
36:20That's Devin and Aiden.
36:21When they first started, their dad was a coach.
36:24He coached them.
36:25Of course, I coached my two boys in Little League when we were growing up, so I guess
36:31that's where Daniel got it from.
36:33This is just something.
36:34He has, I could probably open up a gallery with all of the pictures that he has of kids
36:45over the years.
36:46One thing I will point out is that I'm the only one who's not in here, but you'll see
36:53a picture of me as a coach up here.
36:54You don't have any of my playing day pictures up here, so I'm a little salty about that.
36:59But, you know, just going through, like my dad said, you know, this is just some of the, you
37:06know, pictures like this.
37:08When you get a chance to take these, you know, you have to, the goat here, you know, just,
37:13you know, these are just like moments that we were hoping for, you know, to be able to
37:17put on that, you know, that Bama jersey, that Texas jersey.
37:22My expectations for this season for Devin is...
37:25All-American.
37:26We need to be a freshman All-American.
37:29Work our way into that starting rotation here at Ohio State, and, you know, don't give
37:33that spot back up.
37:36And again, these are just some of the sets of boxes that we have for him, even if he may
37:41not know that we had those boxes set for him.
37:45We tell him, like, you haven't made it yet.
37:48You still got a lot, a lot to do.
37:51I'm expecting greatness.
37:52I don't expect anything less from him.
38:03With a lot of new faces and a new defensive coordinator, there is a lot of excitement about
38:09the way that this Buckeyes defense played with the Texas Longhorns.
38:12It was just an absolutely clinical performance from an Ohio State defense.
38:20For my first college game, I'm rating myself hard, like a seven, six, six, seven.
38:30I feel like I play decent for a freshman, but, you know, obviously things I can work on.
38:37Some things I need to work on to get better.
38:45This is the point of season where you start setting those goals and, you know, just finding
38:49out who you are as a person and a player.
38:51And then, you know, just getting ready for a big time ball.
38:54My first goal is complete.
38:56You know, getting out there on the field.
38:59Now, my second goal is to becoming a freshman All-American.
39:06I got to do that.
39:07Being that freshman and, you know, having Coach Patricia and him being an NFL DC, you know,
39:13we basically run an NFL defense.
39:16That's why I came here.
39:17I came here to learn all that and, you know, to be that top five pick.
39:21Up here, it's like, it's way different.
39:25The coach is a little different than my dad.
39:27But, you know, I don't bash him for nothing he's done because he's a big part of the reason
39:31that I'm here right now.
39:32You know, obviously, he was my first coach, my first trainer, so he taught me everything
39:36I know.
39:37But at the end of the day, I got to grow up and really get coached by our coaches and
39:41get paid to do it.
39:42Just take the things that they can give me and get to the league to be the corner that
39:45I want to be.
39:48Now, I'm ready to get in there on the field with those guys, you know, trying to go back
39:53to back, like a team that's going to attack for another championship.
40:05Real turn, Jase.
40:08Bryce Underwood is an 18-year-old kid.
40:12I know he's got all this hype, but he's not going to be the instant savior for this program
40:18like a lot of people thought he could.
40:19What'd they do to you specifically?
40:20They didn't do shit to me.
40:21They didn't push me off my game.
40:23I just lost.
40:24Man, if he had another remote, he'd get to work right now.
40:27I can't tell you what it feels like until I turn the key and open the door, but it has
40:32been an exciting journey.
40:34Four catch as a freshman is a touchdown.
40:37You know, I credit it to my son and NIL, he leveled his mama up and we moving.
40:46It's tough being out there at that Wade Stadium.
40:49Bryce Underwood and the Wolverines do come to Lincoln with a bad taste in their mouth.
40:54Two weeks ago, Michigan lost to Oklahoma.
40:57Every color football game is tough.
40:59Being a freshman especially.
41:00Come on, baby.
41:01Come on, baby.
41:02Come on, baby.
41:03Come on, baby.
41:04Yeah.
41:06You know, maybe.
41:09Yeah.
41:09If you're not sure.
41:10Every once kids.
41:10We won't.
41:11There, if it takes a time.
41:15Yeah.
41:16There.
