AMC Stubs A-List comes amid competition from MoviePass and a loyalty program from rival Cinemark.
Transcript
00:00AMC Theatres is about to give MoviePass a run for its money.
00:03The cinema giant is launching its own discounted movie ticket program titled AMC Stubbs A-List,
00:09where members can see up to three regular movies a week for $19.95 a month
00:14and receive discounts on concessions as well as other benefits.
00:17The new tier to the AMC Stubbs Rewards program comes as a response to a rival loyalty club
00:22at Cinemark Entertainment titled Cinemark Movie Club and, of course, the controversial
00:27theater subscription service MoviePass. AMC Stubbs A-List is set to launch June 26th
00:33after the opening weekend for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom.
00:36It will allow members to view available movies at any U.S.-based AMC location and in any format,
00:42including IMAX, Dolby Cinema, Real D3D, Prime and Big D.
00:47The new loyalty program will also allow members free upgrades on popcorn and soda,
00:52express service at the box office and concession stand, no online ticketing fees,
00:56and other benefits on in-theater purchases. Now, the $19.95 per month charge for the service
01:01is around double that of competitive offerings, including MoviePass.
01:05CEO and president of AMC Theatres, Adam Aaron, has defended it, though, as a sustainable price point
01:11that allows AMC to profit from its new loyalty program and to share those incremental earnings
01:16with Hollywood studio partners. Meanwhile, Aaron and IMAX CEO Richard Gelfand agreed that
01:21AMC guests being able to see IMAX movies at no additional upcharge through the A-List loyalty program
01:27is expected to boost the audience for big screen films in the U.S. circuit.
01:31Restrictions on the AMC Stubbs A-List program include no carryover from week to week if fewer than three movies are seen.
01:37Members can still, however, see all three movies on the same day, as long as they allow two hours between show times.
01:44And repeat viewings of the same movie are allowed. So, for more on this story, head to THR.com.
