Transcript
00:00The stars of the After franchise, Josephine Lankford and Hero Finds Tiffin, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter all about working on the third movie in the series, After We Fell.
00:22The film dives deeper into the backstories of the two actors' beloved characters, Tessa and Hardin.
00:27The pair opened up about bringing a new side of the fan-favorite couple to the screen.
00:32I think it's really exciting for the fans that we get to get into the family and her father.
00:37Her father shows up at the start of the third movie, who she hasn't seen in 10 years.
00:41And I think that that's a real treat because understanding where these characters have come from helps the audience understand why they are the way that they are in this relationship.
00:51I feel like something that I was initially drawn to the character, I mean, about from the start of the before, even doing the first one, was the slow reveal of why Hardin is the way he is.
01:05And the fact that we're still in number three and people still, we're still kind of explaining more.
01:09It's like, I love that slow burn of understanding for the audience.
01:14I was hoping that we would move to London after graduation.
01:17And how was I supposed to know that?
01:19You filmed this during the pandemic.
01:20So what was it like when you reunited on set in Bulgaria?
01:24It had been a year or something since we'd seen each other when we met back in Bulgaria.
01:30And I think comfortable is just how it felt.
01:33They also spoke about their favorite memories from filming on location.
01:37There's a lot. There's a lot of good ones.
01:39There's one thing that I have to say, like a shout out to Sofia Bulgaria.
01:42I remember I went on like a hike to the top of Mount Vitosha, I think it was called, and just realizing how little kind of time we got because of the pandemic to actually explore the place.
01:52It was just it was just amazing to be able to explore, explore that part of the world like that.
01:56But also, I just think the amount of time we spent on the 24th floor playing card games, Nerf guns, watching films together.
02:04I'm thinking, I don't know why Shopska salad is coming into my head.
02:07There's this Bulgarian thing. It's called Shopska.
02:09Hero nods. He knows.
02:12And it's just a very simple salad, but it's delicious.
02:15And I was obsessed with it.
02:16She saw me nodding. Shopska salad was something I ate every day when I was out there.
02:20But I don't have anything there.
02:23You'd have me.
02:23Okay, that's not enough.
02:25If I'm not enough, that's your problem, but you're not going to stop me.
02:28What scene in this movie are you most proud of?
02:31Maybe the end scene.
02:33Maybe the end scene.
02:35But generally, I really did watch this movie through with Jen Gibgott and the producer.
02:40And I remember just saying that every scene I turned to, that was good, wasn't it?
02:43That was deep.
02:44And not just about my, just that.
02:46I generally really watched it back and especially thought in comparison,
02:49like, I really think we've done, we've done, we've done something good with it.
02:52So I'm proud of, I'm proud of all the work.
02:55I think the ending of the movie, no spoilers,
02:57but there's a scene that Hero has with Steven and I think it's great.
03:01Plus, the actors revealed that one scene in the film was completely improvised.
03:05Like, were there any moments where you went off script and did your own thing?
03:08I remembered something.
03:09There's a scene where they're in the bed in London and that whole scene was improvised.
03:13Really? Which one?
03:14It's a really short scene.
03:15It's just they're like, it's like.
03:17I think we just had a bit more time and we were like, we'd love to.
03:19We just need to tell a bit more of the story at this moment.
03:22And yeah, it was like them getting into bed and, yeah, no spoilers again.
03:26It was very short, but yeah, that whole scene was improvised on the spot, wasn't it?
03:31After We Fell is currently in theaters and available on digital October 19th.
03:36What are you most excited for fans to see in this new film?
03:39There's a lot of, like, twists and turns and a lot of, like, big, big reveals.
03:42And, like, I almost want to just, like, I want to see their faces when, like, when those balls drop.
03:48Like, when, you know, then, especially, like, at the end of the film, I'd love to, I'd love to.
03:52I mean, it's a pretty risky mission, but I'd love to sneak into a cinema and try and see that firsthand.
03:58But yeah, I mean, just generally, I feel like there's so many surprises in this film.
04:03All of them I'm excited for, but yeah, especially the end one.
