00:00Paramount Network has pulled the plug on the show Cops for Good.
00:03The ViacomCBS-owned cable channel had removed the long-running show from its schedule in the
00:07wake of nationwide protests following the police-involved death of George Floyd on May 25th.
00:12Now the network says it's dropping the show altogether. A network spokesperson said,
00:16Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we don't have any current or future plans for it to return.
00:21Paramount Network's predecessor Spike TV picked up Cops in 2013 after it ended a 25-season run
00:27on Fox. The series continued following the 2018 rebranding of the channel as Paramount Network,
00:32which also had syndication rights to many past seasons. The show's 33rd season had been scheduled
00:37to premiere on Monday, but no episode has aired on Paramount Network since at least June 1st,
00:41as protests against police brutality and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement
00:45continue across the country. Cops has faced scrutiny over the years for the way it depicts suspects and
00:50police tactics. A podcast called Running From Cops detailed how officers would sometimes coerce
00:55subjects into signing releases to be filmed for the show, and that crew members have carried weapons
01:00and assisted police. For more on this story, head to THR.com. For The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
