00:00Just doing some numbers on, so Shaq Thompson started yesterday at middle linebacker.

00:04Feels like a great day run defense, right?

00:06Like, hey, we stopped the run.

00:08We proved we could stop the run.

00:09How, do you have like splits of Bernard against the run?

00:11I just looked it up.

00:12And Shaq Thompson against the run?

00:13Games that Thompson started, and I split the Atlanta game, because Bernard got hurt in the second quarter,

00:19and then Thompson played the entire second half at middle linebacker.

00:22Sure, and in the second half they were much better.

00:23Right.

00:24So, in the games that Bernard has started at middle linebacker this year, plus the first half of the Atlanta game,

00:30which I guess he did start, 267 carries for almost 1,500 yards.

00:35Shaq Thompson, in the games he started at middle linebacker, and the second half of Atlanta, 59 for 221.

00:41So, it's 5.5 yards per carry when Bernard is in there, and it's 3.7 when Thompson is in there.

00:47I'm at a point where I almost feel like we have enough evidence.

00:50It would be malpractice to put Bernard back at middle linebacker.

00:54How can they possibly see this season, the way it's going, and Bernard being banged up on top of it,

01:00if you want that, and think that it is a good idea for here on out, if Bernard gets healthy,

01:07to think that he's a better option for them right now at middle linebacker?

01:11What would tell you that that's the case, other than you paid him?

01:14Other than you paid him, why would he play middle linebacker?

01:17I think the only other way you would say it is because he gets the defense lined up.

01:22He's your green dot.

01:23Is that a problem, though, with Thompson?

01:25I don't think so.

01:26McDermott is talking about Shaq Thompson this week is the guy that's getting up in the locker room and giving a speech.

01:33The guy just got here, by the way, and he's a veteran.

01:36He's been around a long time, so maybe it's not stunning that he would do that.

01:39He wants the defense to play nastier, to get meaner.

01:41Sure, if he was like a sixth-round rookie that was playing really well,

01:45and you wanted to tell me about green dot and communication and getting guys lined up,

01:50like, all right, I would listen to that.

01:52But this dude has been in the league for a decade doing this.

01:56So I'm not sure if there are any problems with him doing all of that.

02:01So maybe.

02:02I think it would be amazing if they put Bernard back at middle linebacker.

02:06They probably will.

02:08Wouldn't you expect they will?

02:09I'm not sure.

02:10I'm not sure.

02:11I mean, I thought he would not go back and make a linebacker,

02:13and then there was a game or two where, oh, look, now you can tell he's healthy.

02:16All right.

02:17He definitely has trouble staying healthy.
