00:00Jonathan Majors is speaking publicly for the first time since his domestic violence sentencing
00:04in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In the exclusive cover story, the embattled
00:09magazine Dreamstar opens up about being abused as a child, his Marvel firing, and his fight for
00:14Hollywood redemption. In December 2023, Majors was convicted of one count of misdemeanor third
00:20degree assault and one count of second degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend, British dancer
00:24Grace Jabari, after pleading not guilty. The actor who played Kang the Conqueror in the MCU
00:29said he learned that he had been fired by Marvel Studios from a member of his legal team
00:33following the verdict. Majors said, he goes, I'm just going to tell you now, that way you're not
00:38surprised and you can start processing it. They fired you, Marvel fired you. Majors says that after his
00:44trial, in addition to a domestic violence program, he underwent therapy and re-engaged with his pastor
00:49and as a result began to unpack childhood traumas he had not confronted before. The actor revealed
00:54for the first time in the interview that he experienced sexual abuse as a child. He told
00:59THR, I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was nine, from people who
01:04are supposed to look after you in the absence of a father. I was up. The interview comes as Majors'
01:10film, Magazine Dreams, is finally being released by Briarcliff Entertainment on March 21st, more than
01:15two years after the movie's Sundance premiere. Concerning his professional future, Majors said,
01:19Do I hope to make more movies? Absolutely. That is my intention. But that's not my call. I don't have a
01:25studio and I've given up control. The story features the voices of prominent Hollywood figures
01:29like Matthew McConaughey advocating for Majors' return to acting. McConaughey, who co-starred with
01:34Majors in the 2018 film White Boy Rick, told THR, I've known and know him as someone who is
01:40continuously striving to improve as a human, a man, and an actor. I believe in him. But Mara Hooper,
01:46one of two of Majors' ex-girlfriends who gave a pre-trial statement to prosecutors in his trial
01:50alleging abuse, isn't sold on Majors' comeback. She told THR, I don't really care that his movie
01:55is coming out. What do you get at the end of a 52-week domestic violence course? Did the victims
02:00get a debrief? How could I know if he's changed? I don't see redemption happening here. To read the
