00:00Viewers of the 52nd Super Bowl on Sunday will not just be tuning in to see who will
00:04come away victorious between the Pats and the Eagles. According to industry insiders,
00:08sports fans could also be treated to the first ad for Solo, a Star Wars story.
00:12If this is the case, Sunday's big game will end talk about why Disney and Lucasfilm have
00:17waited to drop any materials for the standalone Star Wars movie, which opens in theaters
00:21four months from now on May 25. Disney declined to comment on its Super Bowl plans.
00:25Hollywood marketing experts say Disney may have held off promoting Solo until Star Wars
00:30The Last Jedi, which debuted in mid-December, was largely done with its run in theaters.
00:34The football championship, carried on NBC this time out, remains the most-watched
00:38television event of the year. A 30-second spot to promote a film can run for up to $5 million.
00:45This year, Fox, Sony and Warner Bros. are sitting at the game entirely. Of course,
00:49Super Bowl ads have become almost as iconic as the game itself.
00:53Universal, a sister company of NBC, will air ads for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom,
00:58which drops June 22, as well as a spot for Dwayne Johnson's upcoming action movie
01:02Skyscraper, hitting theaters July 13. Another summer event movie expected to be promoted
01:07during Sunday's face-off is Paramount's Tom Cruise-led Mission Impossible Fallout,
01:11which comes out July 27. Streaming services Amazon Studios and Netflix are also expected
01:17to jump into the big game. Amazon will advertise its upcoming series Jack Ryan, while Netflix
01:22is rumored to be considering an ad for Cloverfield's sequel God Particle, which it is taking over
01:26from Paramount.
01:27A Star Wars Story isn't the only movie Disney will be plugging. The studio is expected to
01:33advertise two other films. Likely contenders are two Marvel titles, Black Panther premiering
01:37February 16, Avengers Infinity War dropping May 4, or A Wrinkle in Time, which is set for
01:43March 9. A week later, Black Panther is also expected to be a launching pad for high-profile promos.
01:49Fox, for example, is expected to premiere a trailer for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 2 before
01:53Black Panther, which could also be used for Solo. The Winter Olympics, which get underway
01:58February 9, is another obvious launching pad.
02:00So, will you be watching NBC for the sports or for a glimpse at Solo? What other trailers
02:05are you most hoping to see? Let us know in the comments. For The Hollywood Reporter News,
