Here's how the most unexpected scene from "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" came to life.
Transcript
00:00Death.
00:02She's got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one.
00:07The second episode of the final season of Game of Thrones
00:09had several tension-building and surprising moments before next week's big battle.
00:13We're about to break them down, including the explanation behind that Arya scene.
00:18So if you're not caught up yet, warning, major spoilers ahead.
00:21We're probably going to die soon. I ought to know what it's like before that happens.
00:26First up, social media couldn't stop buzzing about the unexpected sex scene between Arya and Gendry.
00:33With hours left before the White Walkers arrive at Winterfell, Arya meets Gendry in one of the castle's mini-corridors
00:39and makes her intentions clear. So how did the creators of the series justify the scene?
00:43In HBO's Inside the Episode feature, Thrones co-creator David Vinioff offered the following explanation.
00:48For us, what was interesting about this episode was always that it's our last night together,
00:52and everyone, I think, would face the end in different ways.
00:54Some characters want to make love for the first time because they've never done it before.
00:58There are other characters who are getting drunk and singing songs.
01:01The episode also featured an original song, the first the show had done in a while, titled Jenny of Old Stones.
01:07She couldn't remember the names. They spun her around on the damp old stone.
01:17Florence and the Machine also recorded a rendition of the song that played during the credits.
01:21And in a touching moment, we also saw Jaime anoint Brienne as a knight of the Seven Kingdoms,
01:26all in front of a gathered group of unlikely friends.
01:28Women can't be knights.
01:30Why not?
01:31Tradition.
01:32Any knight can make another knight.
01:35Kneel, Lady Brienne.
