The actor claimed ‘Trek’ creator Gene Roddenberry would “be turning in his grave at some of this stuff.”
Transcript
00:00William Shatner made a rather lively Comic-Con appearance, sounding off on Star Wars and
00:05his thoughts on the latest Star Trek shows.
00:08Throughout the Shatner on Shatner hour-long panel emceed by Kevin Smith, the icon fluctuated
00:13between as he put it, serious and fun topics.
00:17The 91-year-old actor's age was a running joke throughout the panel, with the actor
00:21quipping that he could die at any moment.
00:23He also took time to address the importance and power of fandom to his career, specifically
00:36to Star Trek, in which he played Captain James T. Kirk.
00:39When asked by a fan if there were any new Star Trek series he thought rivaled his own, Shatner
00:43replied, none of them.
00:45I got to know creator Gene Roddenberry in three years fairly well.
00:49He'd be turning in his grave at some of this stuff.
00:51Shatner also took time to talk about his real trip into outer space.
00:55He stressed how important it was to soak in every minute.
00:58And I vowed that every moment that I spent in space would not be playing around in weightlessness,
01:06but looking out the window and trying to get an impression.
01:09When asked to address the fans of that other major sci-fi franchise, Shatner quipped,
01:14f**k Star Wars, but not Mark Hamill, we love Mark Hamill.
01:18And finally the panel ended with the fulfillment of a promise from Shatner from the very
01:21beginning of the panel, a curse off between him and Smith.
01:25Well, double dumbass on you.
01:27That's so f**king lousy.
