Fran Drescher talks SAG-AFTRA goals for 2024, what it means to her to represent actors and more at the 2024 Oscars.
Transcript
00:00It was a hard year for Hollywood. How does it feel to now be here at the Oscars?
00:04It feels great. I feel very honored to be representing SAG-AFTRA as their president,
00:10and I feel like it was a long and arduous period that we all went through together,
00:17and now we get to celebrate this marvelous industry triumphantly.
00:22What's one lesson you learned during the strike, and how are you implementing it now?
00:26Well, I think that one of the lessons was that Buddhist wisdom helps,
00:34and bearing the responsibility of what female leadership looks like to women and girls is important.
00:43The SAG-AFTRA awards were just a few weeks ago, and it was such a celebratory night.
00:48What was the highlight of that night for you?
00:50Well, for me, I was glad that my speech went over as well as it did.
00:55I was very nervous about that because I knew that I had to say something that had weight to it,
01:03that encapsulated where we are, where we're heading, and where we just came from.
01:09And so that was a big deal for me, and I'm very proud of the way it all went down.
01:14And needless to say, the interview that I did with Barbra Streisand is, without question,
01:20a crescendo in my life and in my career.
01:23What are your goals for the union for 2024?
01:28Well, we're going to keep driving hard bargains with all the contracts that are coming up,
01:34supporting our sister unions as they continue to negotiate their contracts.
01:40We're going to stay on the pulse of AI, and I'm going to put Green Council on its feet in a big way.
01:49So we all come together in an eco-friendly way.
01:52I feel compelled to tell you, my parents, to this day, watch The Nanny, reruns of it, honestly, every night.
01:59For you, what is it like that this show still has such a life to it all these years later and so many fans?
02:04Oh, it's just such a blessing, and I feel so privileged and so grateful.
02:09When you think back on that time, is there one outfit that stands out to you that you just always remember as,
02:14that was my favorite Fran the Nanny outfit?
02:16Well, I think that, you know, there were probably three that come to mind.
02:21One was in the opening series with the leopard collar and the beret,
02:29and then there was the outfit that the jacket looked like a watermelon,
02:36and then there was that gorgeous dress that I wore when I looked like Audrey Hepburn.
