Moviegoers who have confirmed that they have purchased a ticket to a film will receive "verified" badges.

00:00Trolls, beware. Your days of ruling the internet are numbered.
00:09Rotten Tomatoes has created a new feature that could take down online trolls forever
00:14called Verified Audience Ratings. Back when trolls inundated Captain Marvel's Rotten Tomatoes page
00:18with negative reviews prior to the film's release in March, Rotten Tomatoes made a new policy
00:23that audience comments will remain closed until a film opens in theaters.
00:30But now the Critic Aggregator and movie website is taking things a step further
00:38with a new feature called Verified Ratings and Reviews, giving moviegoers a way to confirm
00:43they have purchased a ticket to the movie they're writing about.
00:46Online trolls have attacked a number of films via the site's audience score system in the past,
00:50including Star Wars The Last Jedi.
00:52Now, all visitors will still be able to rate and review movies on the site, but the verified audience score
01:03will be the new default display on each movie's landing page, whereas the audience score compiled
01:08from all the ratings will be accessible under a separate All Audience tab.
01:12Plus, reviews from verified audience members will be marked with a verified checkmark badge.
01:16So here's how it works. Starting May 23rd, a user can opt in to get their rating and review verified
01:21if they purchase their movie ticket on Fandango, the parent company of Rotten Tomatoes.
01:25Additionally, AMC theaters, Regal, and Cinemark theaters plan to participate
01:29as ticket purchase authenticators later this year.
01:32The hope is that audience members who buy physical tickets at a theater's box office
01:36will be able to participate in the verified review system in the future.
