Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar held a crucial breakfast meeting at the CM's residence following direct intervention by the Congress High Command. The meeting comes after a public social media controversy where Shivakumar tweeted 'Word power is world power,' sparking rumors of a rift. India Today reporter Nagarjun Dwarakanath reports that General Secretary K.C. Venugopal directed the leaders to 'sit across the table' and resolve their differences to ensure a message of unity is sent to the party cadres. Siddaramaiah stated, 'My stand is, whatever High Command says, I will go by it.' The leadership aims to dispel rumors of internal bickering and project stability within the Karnataka government.

00:00Now, the road behind us where D.K. Shukumar will make his way through the Chief Minister's residence.
00:05It's a sudden development.
00:06Remember, only last evening that it happened that both of them spoke to each other saying,
00:10Sir, I will come to your house.
00:11He said, yes, please come and I will have breakfast arranged for you at 9.30.
00:15That's the big development and today the complete day of both these leaders are reserved.
00:21They have no official duty except for this crucial breakfast meet that they will be having any one hour from now.
00:30Look, so when we get the pictures of the meeting as it happens,
00:33the way to find out if Sidra Mayaw likes D.K. Shukumar, wants D.K. Shukumar to be happy is to look at the table.
00:39If it's a grand spread, then he wants to keep D.K. Shukumar happy.
00:43Not so much, then you know what the sentiments really are.
00:46It's literally laid out on the table for all to see.
00:48But what's prompted this meeting?
00:50As Naga said, it's a sudden, you know, impromptu meeting that was called a breakfast meet.
00:54Let's get you a news break on that.
01:00Okay, so here on India Today, as promised, we begin with an exclusive news break of exactly what's happened,
01:20what's led to this breakfast huddle and breaking of ice between Sidra Mayaw and D.K. Shukumar.
01:26Here's what we're picking up. K.C. Venugopal dialed Sidra Mayaw and D.K. Shukumar.
01:31Said nothing doing. We're not going to have this kind of social media bickering and fighting.
01:36Ensure you send across a message of unity.
01:39Now, that's why, in fact, you had this breakfast meet being called.
01:43What we're also hearing is that right after this, Sidra Mayaw and D.K. Shukumar will be called to Delhi.
01:47The idea, perhaps, of the high command is to ensure that whatever the decision, the messaging is,
01:52that it's going to be either a smooth transition or smooth continuity and that there's no bad blood,
01:57which is why maybe we're seeing this breakfast.
01:59Naga Jun got us that exclusive news break.
02:01Naga Jun, what are you picking up from your sources?
02:04K.C. Venugopal dialing Sidra Mayaw and D.K. Shukumar. Not one, both.
02:08That's absolutely true. In fact, there's a pre-development, right?
02:10Over the last 24 hours, we saw first D.K. Shukumar on the day of the Cabinet meet on Thursday,
02:15put out a tweet saying that word power is world power.
02:19Few hours later in the evening, Chief Minister's handle, official handle,
02:22had a post saying that my word is for the five years of Karnataka and for the guarantees of Karnataka.
02:28And of course, this was pure interpretation.
02:30It was ugly, yeah.
02:31Yeah, it was ugly that both of them had come down to the streets to fight now.
02:35It was earlier the MLS were speaking against each other,
02:37but now the CM was taking jibes at the Deputy CM.
02:41The Deputy CM was taking jibes at the Chief Minister and this reached the Delhi Circle.
02:46And they felt the party is being embarrassed by these two leaders.
02:49And this is not the way the Congress Party works.
02:52So they had to pull up their socks and draw the battle lines as well.
02:55And K.C. Venugopal called D.K. Shukumar first because he could not get through to the Chief Minister.
02:59He told D.K. Shukumar, listen, both of you meet tomorrow.
03:03So, ensure that you have a conversation with each other.
03:06And then we would decide what would happen in Delhi.
03:09And then he also tried speaking to the Chief Minister.
03:11And Chief Minister was in Vidana Sauda in an official meet.
03:14So K.C. again called D.K. saying, I am unable to get through to the Chief Minister.
03:18You speak to CM saying, I have told you.
03:21So D.K. also tried speaking to the Chief Minister.
03:24Unfortunately, he could not get through because CM was part of the meeting with officials.
03:27All the bureaucrats were there.
03:29So he could not pick phone calls at that point of time.
03:32The meeting got over sometime around 7.
03:34From 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock, D.K. was constantly trying to reach the Chief Minister.
03:39But he used to get an answer saying that CM is busy in the meeting.
03:41Give us time.
03:42We can't give the phone in between the meetings.
03:44So it would look ugly also.
03:46CM gets out of the meeting at 7 o'clock.
03:48And he gets a message that K.C. Venugopal had called.
03:51So he immediately calls back K.C. saying, what happened?
03:54He said, listen, I have already informed D.K. Shubh Kumar, you both have to sit across the table and talk and hatch your differences.
04:00There can't be no differences.
04:02Congress, party, whatever decision will happen in the Congress headquarter and not at KPCC level.
04:06So you both will have to ensure that you are united.
04:10The media is already speculating more stories.
04:12You have to come together and put a gesture that you are united.
04:16Your MLS are united.
04:17The party is united.
04:18And that's when Siddharamaya agreed that, okay, I will speak to Shubh Kumar.
04:24He called Shubh Kumar again by 7, 7.15.
04:27And told Mr. K.C. Venugopala had called me.
04:29Siddharamaya said, sir, I've been trying to reach you for the last two hours.
04:32K.C. Venugopala also had called me.
04:34How do you want to do this?
04:36D.K. Shunkwar himself said, you are the Chief Minister.
04:39I'll come over to your house.
04:40When do you want me to come?
04:42Siddharamaya said, why not breakfast?
04:43Then come over for the breakfast itself.
04:45He said, okay, sir, what time?
04:469.30.
04:479.30 is fine, sir.
04:48I will come at 9.30 tomorrow to meet you at your residence.
04:52And we can sit across the table and speak our heart out.
04:54Only these two leaders will be present across the dining table to have the yummy idli dosa
05:00and some hot political gossip and talk.
05:03Well, I don't know.
05:04I don't know what difference this kind of a meeting is going to be.
05:06Because eventually, look, it's a high command that has to decide.
05:09Bad blood or not, you can go ahead and send all the right messages across.
05:12But beyond that?
05:13The prophecy will be, a few hours from now, both of them will come, hold hands together in front of the camera.
05:18Same picture that we've seen outside the airport, if I'm not wrong.
05:21Outside the Mysore airport.
05:22Where they held their hands up.
05:23Yes, it would be a repetitive repetition of it.
05:26And one sentence.
05:27We both are united.
05:28Congress party is united.
05:30Whatever the high command takes a call, we both would agree to it.
05:33I mean, I'm not sure if they mean it, but the photo op will definitely be there.
05:37Let me bring in our other reporters also.
05:39We're all up early in the morning to ensure that you get every single update of this big breakfast meet.
05:44We're counting down.
05:45It's about 8.10 right now.
05:479.30 is when that meeting will be happening.
05:50So, in over 60 minutes from now is when D.K. Shiv Kumar will be here at Sidramaya's residence.
05:55All right, let me take this across to Apoorva Jayachandran, who's joining us live from D.K. Shiv Kumar's residence.
06:00Anagar Keshiv is from Kaveri, which is Sidramaya's residence, a few lanes away from where I am right now.
06:07Apoorva, I'm going to come across to you.
06:09Good morning.
06:10What's the mood at the D.K. camp, at D.K. Shiv Kumar's residence?
06:13In about an hour from now, I'm guessing he'll leave from his residence to come here to have breakfast with the Chief Minister.
06:20Well, very good morning to all of us.
06:26Akshita, in fact, at D.K. Shiv Kumar's camp, it looks quite calm and serene outside.
06:31In fact, you know, we are yet to see any kind of movement here from D.K. Shiv Kumar's residence.
06:37What we are expecting, the tentative time that has been given for D.K. Shiv Kumar to meet with Sidramaya
06:43for this grand breakfast that has been arranged is around 9.30 a.m.
06:46Remember, yesterday night, just after the meeting, Sidramaya had spoken to Azwarin.
06:51He said that this was an, you know, orders from the high command after which he and Shiv Kumar had been called
06:57and asked to sit down for this breakfast meet that will take place today.
07:01In fact, he goes on and states, you know, both of them are on the same word,
07:06which is that they will abide by whatever the high command has planned for them and whatever the high command says.
07:11So let's see if this breakfast meeting will just be a photo op or if there is going to be some other news
07:18that will come along in the menu apart from the idli dosa and vada that we will be hopefully seeing.
07:24We can only see there's no food for us, no idli vada for us.
07:31We can only look at what's laid out of the table, try to interpret what it really means.
07:36Let me bring in Anagar Keshav also this morning for more details of what's expected in that meeting.
07:41Anagar, 9.30 is when that breakfast meet will be happening.
07:45Sidramaya making it very clear that, look, this is on the instructions of the high command.
07:49If he had it his way, there's no way this kind of a breakfast meet would even be happening.
07:59She can't hear you.
08:04Anagar?
08:08Okay, we'll get to her in just a bit.
08:09She's not connected with us.
08:11We'll connect with Anagar.
08:12But let me get you the next big news break.
08:14Like what I was referring to right now, about Sidramaya being not really willing to call D.K. Shukumar of his own volition.
08:22This was because of the fact that the high command dialed him and told him, call D.K. Shukumar, meet with him.
08:28So Sidramaya has said exactly that.
08:30In fact, right after inviting D.K. Shukumar, Sidramaya says,
08:34I will remain the chief minister.
08:36There's no change in my stance.
08:38The high command asked me to meet with D.K. Shukumar.
08:40I will do it because I will abide by what the high command wants me to do.
08:44Sidramaya has also put out on social media that very message saying,
08:48and I'll read out for you that message.
08:49He says, there's no change in my stance.
08:51I've already informed that I will act as per what the party's seniors have said.
08:55Even now and tomorrow, I will say the same.
08:58The party's seniors have called me and D.K. Shukumar and instructed us to meet.
09:02And therefore, I've invited him for breakfast.
09:05D.K. Shukumar has said he will accept what the high command has said.
09:08If the high command calls me to New Delhi, I will go.
09:10This is a message that's coming from Sidramaya.
09:12Lots to read into there.
09:14Because you've got the Karnataka chief minister saying,
09:16nothing's changed as far as my stance goes.
09:19What the high command says, I will do.
09:20The high command has asked me to meet Shukumar.
09:22I'm doing that.
09:23Listen to what he said last night.
09:25It's only a breakfast meeting.
09:27But what has the high command said to you so far?
09:31I do not know.
09:33High command told me.
09:35And he also, high command told D.K. Shukumar also that we should meet and discuss.
09:43Right.
09:44But all things amicable between you both?
09:46But my stand is, whatever high command says, I will go by it.
09:51All right, sir.
