00:00Let's get you a breaking update that's coming in tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
00:04is when we are hearing Sidra Maya will hand over his resignation to the governor,
00:09to Governor Tavarshan Gailodh.
00:10He will be visiting the Lok Bhavan tomorrow morning.
00:12And this is the news break that we're getting you first here on India Today.
00:16That 11 a.m. tomorrow is when Sidra Maya will officially be stepping down
00:21as the chief minister of Karnataka.
00:24So the decks are cleared essentially for D.K. Shiv Kumar
00:27to become the next chief minister of the state.
00:30But things are moving fast at a time and the high command is yet to figure out
00:33exactly what the deal is going to be with Sidra Maya.
00:36He hasn't agreed to a Rajasabha seat.
00:38He hasn't agreed to moving to Delhi.
00:40And so there are questions right now on exactly what will happen.
00:44Let me take this across to Apoorva Jai Chandra.
00:46She's joining us live from the Vidana Sauta right now.
00:49Apoorva, 11 a.m. is when we're hearing that Sidra Maya will be handing over his resignation.
00:54How will things move going beyond that, Apoorva?
00:57Because at this point, there's still a question mark of what the deal with the high command looks like
01:02because Sidra Maya is not okay with Rajasabha seat.
01:05Despite that, will he be handing over his resignation?
01:07Or is that going to be, you know, waiting and contingent to what the deal is?
01:15Well, in fact, Akshita, just a couple of hours back at Vidana Sauta stairs, where we are currently at,
01:20Sidra Maya, the Karnataka chief minister, when he was, you know, speaking to reporters there,
01:25this was the same question that they had asked, which is that, are you going to, you know,
01:29what is going to be the political scenario next?
01:31What is the change?
01:32Are you stepping down to which Sidra Maya had given just one answer.
01:35He said, we will see tomorrow.
01:38We will talk about this tomorrow.
01:39Nothing else that he had said regarding this political change here in Karnataka.
01:43And I think, I believe that's what we should also look by,
01:47given that there hasn't been any official timing that has been given,
01:50wherein either the Karnataka chief minister, Sidra Maya, has gone ahead and called the Raj Bhavan,
01:54saying he wants to, you know, come at this particular time and meet the governor
01:57and hand in his resignation.
01:59Nor has, you know, the Raj, the Lok Bhavan there, I'm sorry,
02:02has gone ahead and said that this is a tentative time, likely that he will go on.
02:06But sources do tell us that, yes, there is a meeting that is scheduled
02:09between the governor and, you know, Sidra Maya tomorrow.
02:12But is it going to be 11 a.m. or is it likely to be delayed?
02:16All of these things we will, you know, get to know tomorrow.
02:18Because remember, there is also an all-important breakfast that is scheduled to take place
02:23between Sidra Maya and D.K. Shivkumar.
02:25Remember, D.K. Shivkumar is also currently in Delhi right now.
02:28Now, talks that are going on between D.K. Shivkumar and his supporters, his followers,
02:33those who have backed him for all these years, for him to be the chief ministerial candidate.
02:37And now, you have Sidra Maya back at base, back at Bengaluru right now,
02:41you know, where his supporters, the ministers who have stood by him from time,
02:45you know, immemorial, they have come out, they have come seeking his support
02:48and seeking his guidance as to what next step that Sidra Maya will have to plan.
02:53Rajya Sabasip, the high command has offered to him,
02:55that he has, you know, comfortably turned down, saying,
02:58no, I want to be a part of state politics, I want to be here for my state
03:02and look into the state interest from my home here in Karnata.
03:06But then the question that will come up, Apurva, is if state politics,
03:09he's been the chief minister, he's resigning as chief minister,
03:13there's no bigger position than that.
03:14So then how do you accommodate a veteran leader like Sidra Maya in state politics?
03:19It will effectively be, let's make it very clear, political retirement.
03:22If he wants to stick to the state, he has to look beyond if he wants to be politically relevant
03:27and that's why the Congress high command has offered him a place in Delhi,
03:31in the Rajasabha and much beyond.
03:33Let's be very clear that the offer isn't just restricted to a Rajasabha seat,
03:36they've also offered his son, Yatindra Sidra Maya, a position in the cabinet.
03:40They've said Sidra Maya will still have a say in what happens in the Karnataka Congress,
03:44but he's shot all of that down, just because he's very clear he doesn't want a Rajasabha seat.
03:48So there is some time in which they can go ahead and convince Sidra Maya,
03:55which is why KCV and Gopal Randip Surjewala will be here,
03:57tasked with that responsibility of meeting with Sidra Maya and attempting to convince him.
04:01So it'll be interesting to see whether that actually happens.
04:03DK Shriv Kumar in the meanwhile is in wait and watch mode.
04:06He's currently in Delhi, he's not come back to Bengaluru yet.
04:09We're hearing that tomorrow early morning at about 5 in the morning
04:12is when he's taking a flight to come to Bengaluru.
04:14Why so early?
04:15Because like Apoorva pointed out, there's a breakfast meet that happens tomorrow
04:18at Sidra Maya's residence.
04:20It's essentially considered to be the last breakfast cabinet meet
04:24before he goes across and hands over his papers and resigns
04:27as Chief Minister at the Lok Bhavan at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning.
04:31So lots that's expected in the next 24 hours.
04:34Let me run you through essentially what's happened.
04:37You know, Sidra Maya today was also asked about what happened in Delhi in those meetings yesterday.
04:43He said he will speak about it tomorrow.
04:44There was speculation that there will be a press conference today,
04:47but it looks like he said, I'm going to wait and watch.
04:49I'm going to see what the high command comes across to me with and then take a call.
04:53And because he's undecided on really the compromise formula right now,
04:57even if he holds a press conference, those questions will go completely unanswered
05:00of whether he's okay with the Rajas Abbas seat or not.
05:03But considering the breakfast meeting that will take place,
05:07Sidra Maya will be communicating to his cabinet that he's chosen to resign.
05:11Sidra Maya in the final act before exiting office is likely to clear the caste census survey report.
05:18And then this report will be submitted to the government after receiving the commission's final nod.
05:22And so this is being seen as an OBC chief minister's final backward class outreach
05:29and therefore leaving behind that strong social justice legacy.
05:33That's what he'll be looking at is the OBC card that the Congress is trying to ensure they don't lose
05:39as a result of making him step down as the chief minister.
05:43Let's get you all the reactions that are coming in right now on what's happened so far in Karnataka.
05:50Our general secretary, ACC, was in charge of Karnataka.
05:56Shri Randeep Surajewala Ji is coming.
05:59And he will, whatever he says, you know, that we'll all follow because he represents the high command.
06:24Shri Randeep Surajewala Ji is coming.
06:36His name is also being in talks for the PPP president.
06:49foreign
06:55foreign
07:31This is all a speculation, not yet no information.
07:35Yesterday, the Venkopans is told that only we have discussed with Rajya Sabha and the Vidana Parashat Seeds.
07:46Only he conveyed to the press. I am not going beyond that.
07:51If the Chief Ministry called tomorrow morning, let me know what was the outcome.
07:57And he was there. He was also there. He is a disciplined person.
08:02I hope we will know tomorrow morning. Till that time, I cannot comment anything.
08:08I am the person who is abiding by the High Commendation.
08:13What we are picking up is that Rahul Gandhi has told Chief Minister that the party has immense respect towards
08:18Sidhara Maya
08:19and they acknowledge his strength as an OBC leader.
08:22They also are of an opinion that why doesn't he come to Delhi and give his expertise in Rajya Sabha
08:28or the party at the central level?
08:30How do you see this?
08:31See, I don't want to get into any speculative discussion on what transpired between them
08:37because I am not aware of it or I am in confidence of those discussions.
08:42So, only thing I would say is that Sidhara Maya is the tallest leader in Karnataka, one of the most
08:47popular – or I can say the most popular leader in Karnataka today.
08:51And he has been Chief Minister for now almost eight years and he has had fantastic innings.
08:57And I think there is nobody in this state, especially in Congress, who has got any issue with Mr. Sidhara
09:06Maya.
09:06And we all love him and respect him.
09:08But like we always said earlier, including Mr. Sidhara Maya, he has always very clearly said that whatever the party
09:16High Command decides, I will go by that.
09:18We are nodding tomorrow night.
