00:10Richard Hurd, the character actor who played Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld and appeared in such
00:15notable films as All the President's Men and the China Syndrome, died Tuesday. He was 87.
00:20Hurd died of cancer-related causes at his home in Los Angeles, his wife of 40 years,
00:24actress Patricia Crowder Hurd, told The Hollywood Reporter.
00:27With his commanding features, Hurd often portrayed men of authority during his five-decade career,
00:32and in his first recurring role in a TV series, he played Captain Sheridan,
00:36William Shatner's boss, on the ABC action cop drama T.J. Hooker.
00:39The Boston native also made a name for himself in the world of science fiction. Most recently,
00:44in 2015, Star Trek Renegades, but also over the years by portraying characters in the 1983 NBC
00:49miniseries V and its sequel, Star Trek The Next Generation, Sequest 2032, and Star Trek Voyager.
00:55Among his numerous credits, Hurd appeared 11 times over three Seinfeld seasons as Mr. Wilhelm,
01:00the clueless New York Yankees exec who supervised George Costanza after he landed a job with the
01:05team as an assistant to the traveling secretary.

01:14Hurd continued to act into his 80s, appearing on such series as Hawaii Five-0,
01:18Rizzoli and Isles, and Shameless, as well as the movies A Christmas in New York and Get Out.
01:22He was also a member of the ensemble on the 2012 prank show Betty White's Off Their Rockers.
