00:56This happened a few years ago, but it still gives me an unsettling feeling whenever I think about it.
01:03The only reason I'm talking about it now is because I feel like it's been long enough since it happened, and I won't risk anything by putting it on the internet.
01:11Back then, my wife and I had just moved into the suburbs from the city.
01:15We'd just had our third kid, and between the baby stuff, the toys, and the general chaos, our apartment felt way too cramped.
01:23We found a nice house in a quiet, safe neighborhood.
01:27The neighbors described it as the kind of place where you'd feel fine leaving the doors unlocked.
01:32The house itself wasn't massive, but it was definitely a step up from the tiny space we'd previously been living in.
01:38One of the features that caught my wife's eye was the backyard.
01:41It had this beautiful, slightly overgrown garden with a few old statues scattered around.
01:47They were weathered, a little eerie looking, like something out of Game of Thrones.
01:52I know it sounds weird, but my wife and I loved it.
01:54Said it gave our yard character.
01:57I was pretty indifferent, so I left everything as it was, statues and all.
02:02I figured it was less work for me, which I was never going to complain about.
02:05A few days after we moved in, I was looking out the window, taking in the yard, when I noticed something odd.
02:13One of the statues, an angel I think, was facing away from the house.
02:18All the others were facing toward us, so it looked strange.
02:22I could have sworn they all faced the same direction, but I didn't really know for sure.
02:26I didn't think much of it, and just assumed I was misremembering things.
02:31The next morning, I looked out the window again, and that's when I noticed it.
02:35Another statue had turned around, again facing away from the house.
02:40This time, I knew something was up.
02:42I had never been more sure about anything in my life.
02:46I asked my wife about it, but she just shrugged it off and said she hadn't noticed anything.
02:51I thought maybe it was my son Jimmy.
02:53He was a little prankster back then, always up to something.
02:56But when I asked him, he just looked at me like I was nuts.
03:01I doubted he'd do something like that anyway.
03:03I knew something was going on though, but I couldn't prove it.
03:07I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so I tried to ignore it.
03:11Besides, I had bigger problems to worry about.
03:14I don't like admitting it, but money was really tight during that time, and I lived in perpetual fear that I was going to lose my job.
03:21A few days went by without anything strange, and I started to relax.
03:26But then, one evening, I looked out the window, and my heart nearly stopped.
03:30All of the statues were lined up in a row at the very edge of the house, just standing there.
03:38It was a freakish sight, like something out of a horror movie.
03:42I know it sounds ridiculous, but part of me could feel all those eyes looking at me.
03:47My breathing went shallow.
03:49I couldn't decide whether it was more scary or bizarre.
03:53I went outside to get a closer look, trying to make sense of it.
03:56Before opening up the back door, I took a few nervous glances around the yard to make sure there was no one out there.
04:03It was daylight, but I was paranoid.
04:06Eventually, I worked up the courage to open the door and go inspect the statues.
04:11I went to lift one of them, and immediately realized something.
04:15Those statues were heavy, way too heavy for one person to move alone.
04:19I couldn't even budge one of them on my own.
04:21As I was debating what to do, my wife came outside, and the look on her face told me she was just as freaked out as I was.
04:29She suggested maybe some of the other neighbors were messing with us, trying to scare the new people on the block.
04:35But that explanation literally made no sense.
04:38We had met all of the neighbors, and they all seemed like fairly normal people.
04:42Plus, I had trouble believing that anyone sane would do this to a family with young children.
04:47This was harassment, not some harmless prank.
04:49We ended up calling the police, but as you might expect, they couldn't do much.
04:55They suggested putting up some security cameras, but we didn't have the money for that.
05:00I told the cops we would, but on the inside, I was really reluctant to do something so drastic.
05:06They left, and I guess I felt a little better, even though my wife was still extremely shaken up.
05:12My wife and I did everything we could to hide the situation from our kids.
05:16Say what you will, but we didn't want to scare them.
05:19Nothing happened the next day, or the next.
05:23I speculated that the cops had scared whoever was there away, which did track on many levels.
05:28So we tried to forget about it, even though neither of us really felt comfortable.
05:33I tried to assure myself that maybe my wife was right, maybe it had just been a prank or something.
05:38That didn't do anything to calm my nerves, though.
05:41I was on edge, looking out the windows every time I passed by, half expecting to see the statues somewhere else.
05:48I hope no one ever has to experience the sensation of feeling unsafe in your own home.
05:53A few days passed without incident.
05:56I started thinking the nightmare was over, and for the first time in a while, the house was actually starting to feel like home.
06:01I could not have been more wrong.
06:04It was a weekend.
06:05I don't remember whether it was Saturday or Sunday, but it was definitely a weekend since my kids didn't have school.
06:12After some breakfast, I went outside to play in the yard with my kids.
06:17And that's when I saw it.
06:18Spray-painted in big black letters on the back wall of our house were the words, Go Away.
06:25I nearly dropped my son when I saw it.
06:28Without thinking, I rushed my kids inside and told my wife to stay in the house with them.
06:33I don't know what came over me.
06:35I'm not that brave of a guy, but I started sprinting through the garden, screaming threats at whoever had vandalized my house.
06:42Adrenaline was coursing through my veins, and I was looking for a fight.
06:46No one was anywhere in my yard, though.
06:48Eventually, I gave up looking.
06:50As I was walking back towards the house, the adrenaline in me turned to outright fear.
06:55This was serious.
06:57Someone had left a direct message meant to scare us.
07:00They could have meant us harm, and I knew the situation was only going to escalate from there.
07:05The police came again and took down another report, but without any leads, there wasn't much they could do.
07:11I insisted that they stay on the property in case those people came back,
07:15but they told me they didn't have enough evidence to waste resources like that.
07:19As far as they knew, some teenage delinquents could have been behind the graffiti.
07:23I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
07:26They told me they'd make sure a patrol officer was nearby, which I guess was some kind of consolation.
07:30My wife was twice as upset as I was, so I reassured her that we'd be okay, even though I was freaking out internally.
07:37That night, I was in the kitchen, when I heard my wife scream from the living room.
07:44I ran in, and she was standing by the window, pointing outside.
07:48I looked, and my stomach dropped.
07:51There were five people standing in our backyard, each of them wearing white face coverings.
07:57They were dancing around in this strange, jerky way, almost like puppets.
08:01We just stood there, watching them, too shocked to move.
08:06It was terrifying.
08:07I don't know what they were trying to accomplish, but it was the most disturbing thing I'd ever seen.
08:12I snapped out of my haze and grabbed the biggest kitchen knife we had.
08:16I basically screamed at my wife to call the police, and while she was doing that,
08:20I ran out the back door with a knife in my hand.
08:23I screamed like a clinically insane person and took one step toward them before instantly regretting it.
08:28There were five of them and one of me.
08:31They could have been armed.
08:33Before anything else could happen, I turned and ran back inside the house like a coward.
08:38The knife must have scared them, though, because they stopped dancing and ran into the garden out of sight.
08:43I told my wife to run upstairs, find the kids, and hide,
08:46and I guarded the back door in case they tried to break in.
08:49By the time the police arrived, those people were gone.
08:53The police did a thorough search, but couldn't find any trace of them.
08:57That was the last straw.
08:59I didn't care about the cost.
09:01I bought and installed security cameras the next day.
09:04My wife was hysterical for weeks after that, begging me to let us move somewhere else.
09:10I told her that if one more thing happens, that we would,
09:13but that we'd probably be screwing ourselves financially if it came to that.
09:16Luckily, the cameras must have done the trick, because those people never returned,
09:20and we never had another incident occur on the property.
09:23The scariest thing, though, is that we still live in this same house,
09:27and never got an explanation for what happened.
09:29My wife, Taylor, and I recently moved out of our old home.
09:42She didn't like being so close to her family and wanted to put some distance between us and them,
09:47so that's what we did.
09:48We don't have kids, and she stopped working ages ago,
09:52so she was relatively amenable to my suggestions about where to move.
09:56I'm an electrician, so bouncing around isn't much of a problem for me.
09:59We eventually settled on New Mexico.
10:03We've both been rural people all our lives,
10:05so it wasn't that drastic of a lifestyle change.
10:09That was about three months ago, give or take.
10:11We found a fantastic deal on a place way out in the country.
10:16The house is honestly bigger than we really need,
10:18especially since it's just the two of us and our black lab, Lola.
10:21But honestly, we figured we'd make use out of the extra space,
10:25maybe even host some of the friends we'd make.
10:27We'd been settled in for a few months,
10:29when I started noticing something odd.
10:32The upstairs lights kept tripping circuits,
10:35but the rest of the house would still have power.
10:37After this happened once or twice,
10:39I knew exactly what the problem was.
10:41Like I said, I'm literally an electrician,
10:44so this kind of stuff is my bread and butter.
10:46I figured it would be an easy fix,
10:48just a matter of rearranging some of the load on the breaker,
10:51which, in all likelihood, was downstairs.
10:54Times like those make me happy that I'm the type of guy who knows how to fix things.
10:58To be honest, I hadn't spent that much time in the basement since we moved in.
11:03I didn't really have a reason to.
11:05We'd looked it over briefly when the realtor showed us the place,
11:08but I didn't pay much attention.
11:10Come to think of it, I don't think I'd been in there one time since then.
11:14Anyway, I walked down the stairs,
11:16and started looking around for the main breaker.
11:19The basement was pretty cluttered,
11:21and definitely not the type of space that could be easily used.
11:23It looked more like a storage room than a basement.
11:27Eventually, I figured out where the main was,
11:29and started futzing around.
11:31After about ten minutes,
11:33I realized where the load imbalance was,
11:35and told myself I'd rewire it when I had more time.
11:38At that point,
11:39I was about to go upstairs,
11:41when curiosity got the better of me.
11:43I figured since I was down in the basement already,
11:45it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a look around.
11:49After all,
11:49this is my house,
11:50and it was honestly a little strange
11:52that I didn't know every square inch of it.
11:55Like I said,
11:55most of it was filled with old furniture and a bunch of junk.
11:59There wasn't anything particularly interesting down there,
12:02and I eventually concluded that trying to transform it into a usable space
12:05would be way too much of a hassle.
12:07That's when I noticed something odd.
12:09In the far corner of the basement,
12:11behind a stack of old wooden chairs,
12:13was a large metal door.
12:15It was strange,
12:16because this wasn't just any door.
12:17It looked industrial grade.
12:19It was also a lot taller than most normal doors would be,
12:22and seemed pretty thick too.
12:25I walked over to it,
12:26and my suspicions were confirmed.
12:28It looked like the type of door you'd see securing a walk-in safe
12:31or some kind of panic room.
12:33My first thought was maybe it was a tornado shelter,
12:35or a storm room or something,
12:37but that would be a weird surprise.
12:39You'd think the realtor would have mentioned a feature like that.
12:42I tried to open it,
12:43but the handle wouldn't budge.
12:45It was locked.
12:45I immediately went upstairs
12:48and started rummaging through the drawer of keys
12:50the previous owner had left behind
12:51in case we locked ourselves out or something,
12:53but none of them worked on the door.
12:56I must have tried like 15 keys or something,
12:58but no luck.
13:00I eventually told Taylor about it,
13:02and she was just as curious about it as I was.
13:05I'm still not sure how,
13:06but she worked her magic,
13:08and we were able to get in contact with the previous owners.
13:10It was that exact phone call
13:12that took me from curious about the situation
13:14to downright concerned.
13:17They were a little odd on the phone
13:18and would pause every so often,
13:20like they were thinking carefully about what they were saying
13:23or trying not to say too much.
13:25Part of me wishes I had recorded the conversation,
13:28but hindsight is 20-20.
13:30When I asked about the door,
13:32they got quiet.
13:33Eventually,
13:34the wife said it was just a safe room
13:35in case of a tornado.
13:36I told her that was great,
13:38but we were unable to use it since it was locked.
13:41After another pause,
13:43she claimed they'd lost the key
13:44and told us to just ignore it.
13:46I thought that was extremely unlikely,
13:48since they had literally left us keys to random doors
13:51that we'd probably never need to lock.
13:53The way she said it
13:54gave me a really bad feeling in my gut too,
13:57but there was nothing I could do.
13:59We ended up hanging up almost immediately after that,
14:01as they were definitely not trying to make small talk.
14:05Taylor tried to laugh it off,
14:06told me I was overthinking it,
14:08but I couldn't let it go.
14:10Over the course of the next few weeks,
14:12I would occasionally wander down the stairs
14:14and just stare at that door,
14:15wondering what could be inside.
14:18I tried everything I could think of to open it,
14:20even some tricks I'd picked up from work,
14:22but it was no use.
14:24The lock was solid.
14:25I ended up giving up for about a week,
14:28but the curiosity ultimately got the better of me.
14:30Fast forward to two days ago,
14:32when things took a wild turn.
14:34After my wife's wishes,
14:36I decided to hire a locksmith.
14:39He came over,
14:40and I let him do his thing down there.
14:42After about 30 minutes,
14:43I went downstairs to check on him.
14:46He told me that the lock was unusually complex
14:48for a simple panic room.
14:50Those were his exact words.
14:52I was worried he wouldn't be able to get it open,
14:54but to my surprise,
14:56he actually managed to crack it after another half hour.
14:58I wish he hadn't.
15:01Inside, the room was set up like some kind of shrine.
15:04There were old black-and-white photographs on the walls,
15:07all covered in strange symbols that I didn't recognize.
15:10In the center was a chair,
15:12just facing the wall.
15:14It looked like someone had spent a lot of time sitting there,
15:17just staring at nothing.
15:19In one corner,
15:20there was a cot with crumpled blankets,
15:22and it smelled stale and kind of gross.
15:24Then I noticed the trash.
15:27Empty chip bags,
15:28crumpled water bottles.
15:30The realization smacked me in the face.
15:33Someone had actually been staying down there,
15:35and not that long ago.
15:36I was dumbfounded.
15:38I didn't think the situation could get much worse,
15:41but of course,
15:42that's what happened.
15:44As I was trying to take it all in,
15:46I noticed a second door on the far right side of the room.
15:49It was small and half hidden by the minimal light,
15:52but it was there.
15:53I opened it,
15:55and realized it led to a set of stairs
15:57that led to the cellar door outside the house.
16:00I felt like such an idiot.
16:02I hadn't even had the foresight to check the cellar door
16:04when we moved in,
16:05since I just assumed it led to the basement.
16:08In all the time we'd lived here,
16:10I had never even opened it.
16:12My bewilderment at the whole thing soon became terror.
16:15Someone had literally been living in my house
16:17for who knows how long.
16:19Things started clicking in my brain.
16:20Since moving in,
16:23my wife and I had noticed a few weird things
16:25that we couldn't explain.
16:26Most of the time it was just things going missing.
16:29Until that point,
16:30I had just assumed my wife had misplaced things,
16:33which she did have a tendency to do.
16:35This discovery changed everything, though.
16:38Someone had been living in our house.
16:40I had to repeat that thought a dozen times in my head
16:43before I could fully wrap my mind around what was going on.
16:45I didn't know who had been in there or why,
16:49but I knew I didn't want them coming back.
16:51I tried calling the previous owners,
16:53demanding an explanation,
16:55maybe even threatening legal action,
16:57but they wouldn't pick up.
16:59Either they disconnected their number,
17:01or they just didn't want to deal with it.
17:03Taylor was freaked out,
17:04and I was too.
17:06That night,
17:07I took some heavy furniture
17:08and barricaded the cellar door from the inside.
17:11I found a heavy-duty-looking chain
17:13and padlocked it shut for good measure.
17:15I didn't care what it took.
17:17There was no way I was letting someone
17:18sneak back in through that door.
17:20The police came and took down a full report before leaving,
17:23telling us they'd do their best
17:24to try and get in contact with the previous owners.
17:27We even called our realtor,
17:28who was horrified
17:29and said she'd assist the police in any way she could.
17:32That night,
17:33as we were getting ready for bed,
17:35we heard it.
17:37There was a loud bang on the front door.
17:40Lola shot up,
17:41barking like crazy,
17:42and we both froze.
17:44Neither of us moved,
17:45just staring at each other,
17:47listening.
17:48After a few minutes,
17:49the banging stopped,
17:51but then we heard small rocks
17:52tapping against our bedroom window.
17:55Taylor held onto Lola,
17:56and I went to look out the window.
17:58Taylor begged me not to,
18:00but I was furious at that point.
18:02In my mind,
18:03I was preparing to fight
18:04whoever was out there.
18:05I grabbed the baseball bat
18:07from under the bed
18:07and yanked the curtains away from the window,
18:10but I couldn't see a thing.
18:12We thought it was over.
18:13Taylor wanted me to call the police,
18:15but there was a little part of me
18:16that wanted to handle this myself.
18:18I knew the police would scare them away
18:20and call it pettiness,
18:22but I wanted to make sure
18:23whoever was out there got caught.
18:25I told her if one more thing happened,
18:27I'd call.
18:28But then from downstairs,
18:30I heard the sound of glass shattering.
18:31I sprinted downstairs just in time
18:35to see two figures
18:36running away from the house.
18:37The kitchen window
18:38was completely shattered.
18:40It was then that I called the police,
18:41who showed up not long after.
18:44They searched the house
18:45and the basement,
18:46but there was no sign
18:47of forced entry into the storm room.
18:49They didn't find anyone
18:50on the property either.
18:51Their best guess was that
18:53whoever had been living down there
18:54was angry when they realized
18:55they were locked out
18:56and decided to come back and scare us.
18:59I was both furious and horrified.
19:02My wife has been a wreck ever since.
19:04The police escalated the situation
19:06since an actual crime happened
19:07and said they're working
19:08on tracking down the previous owners,
19:10but that it could take a few days.
19:13That was two full days ago
19:14and we still have not been able
19:15to get in contact with them.
19:17I think the police scared away
19:18those squatters though,
19:20at least for now,
19:21as they haven't been back
19:22to our house since.
19:23I'm actually shocked
19:24that something like this
19:25could even happen in the first place.
19:27If we can't get in contact
19:28with the previous owners soon,
19:30I have absolutely no idea
19:31what I'm going to do.
19:33I'm fully prepared to defend myself,
19:35but I hope it doesn't come to that.
19:46When I bought my first house,
19:48I was only 27.
19:50I'd saved up for years
19:51and even though it was just
19:52a small, modest place,
19:54I was proud of it.
19:56Moving in though,
19:57that took some adjustment.
19:59I'd lived with my parents
20:00my whole life,
20:01along with three siblings
20:02and two dogs.
20:03The house was loud,
20:05always buzzing with life.
20:07But this,
20:07this was quiet.
20:09Really quiet.
20:11That was honestly the hardest part
20:12about the transition.
20:14The lack of noise.
20:16Living alone felt strange
20:17and at first,
20:19I wasn't sure I'd ever get used to it.
20:21I'm sure anyone
20:22who's gone from living with family
20:23to living alone
20:24knows what I'm talking about.
20:26One thing I loved about the house
20:27was the tiny balcony
20:28on the second floor.
20:30Don't get the wrong impression,
20:32I don't even know
20:32if I can really even call it a balcony.
20:35It was barely big enough to stand on
20:37and I couldn't even fit a chair out there.
20:39Regardless,
20:40I'd go out there most nights after work
20:42to take a break
20:43and clear my head.
20:44I smoked pretty often,
20:46but I hated the smell,
20:47so smoking inside
20:48wasn't an option for me.
20:50The balcony was twice as beneficial
20:52for that exact reason.
20:54I didn't even have to go outside
20:55or leave the comfort of my own home
20:57just to smoke.
20:58It felt like a luxury.
21:00I'll describe the layout of the property
21:02so what I'm about to tell you
21:03makes sense.
21:04The block I lived on
21:05was pretty standard,
21:07with houses adjacent to each other
21:08all the way down.
21:10The street behind mine
21:11was exactly the same,
21:12meaning everyone's house
21:13would be sharing a backyard
21:14if it weren't for the 10-foot-tall fences
21:16designating the property lines.
21:19From my balcony,
21:20I could see over my backyard neighbor's fence
21:22and into his yard.
21:23You could see the whole place, really.
21:25After a few weeks,
21:27I realized I'd met
21:28almost all the neighbors
21:29except him.
21:30Come to think of it,
21:31I don't think I had ever seen him,
21:33let alone have a conversation with him.
21:36The guy never waved
21:37and never came over.
21:38I never saw him in the yard
21:40or at the bedroom window.
21:41Nothing.
21:42It was like he didn't exist.
21:45If it weren't for the occasional
21:46bedroom light on at night,
21:47I would have assumed
21:48the place was deserted.
21:50I guessed that there was
21:51an old person living there
21:52since the grass looked like
21:54it hadn't been cut in years
21:55and I never heard any sounds
21:56from their yard.
21:58After another week,
21:59curiosity got the better of me
22:01and I decided to go
22:02introduce myself
22:03and at least put a face
22:04to the name.
22:06One Saturday,
22:06I walked around the block
22:08to his place,
22:09expecting to knock on the door
22:10and maybe make some small talk.
22:12But the house looked rough.
22:14Rough was an understatement.
22:16It looked completely untouched.
22:18The yard was a mess,
22:20overgrown with weeds
22:21and the whole place
22:22looked like it had been
22:23ignored for years.
22:25The paint was chipping,
22:26some of the siding
22:27had been scratched off
22:28and the walkway was stained.
22:30The doorbell was broken
22:31so I gave a few loud knocks
22:33and waited.
22:34Nothing.
22:35I felt awkward standing there
22:37and started to wonder
22:38if maybe the place
22:39really was vacant.
22:40But then I saw a slight movement
22:42behind the window shade.
22:43Just a flicker
22:44like someone was peeking out.
22:47That was enough for me.
22:48Someone was in there,
22:50spying on me
22:50but wouldn't open the door
22:51for some reason.
22:53I turned to leave
22:54when all of a sudden
22:55the door flew open,
22:57slamming against the wall
22:58like someone had ripped it open
22:59in a violent rage.
23:01I jumped back,
23:02totally thrown off.
23:03I whipped around
23:04and found myself face to face
23:06with an elderly Asian woman
23:07standing in the doorway,
23:09staring at me.
23:10She was short
23:11with gray hair pulled back
23:12and a tight bun.
23:13Her skin was wrinkled
23:15but somehow tense
23:16like she was flexing
23:17her face muscles
23:18if that even makes sense.
23:20Her eyes were wide,
23:22unsettlingly wide.
23:23I can't even lie,
23:24I was pretty freaked out
23:25just looking at her.
23:27There was something off about her
23:28like it looked like
23:29she was on something.
23:31She didn't say a word,
23:33just stared
23:33with no expression
23:34on her face.
23:36Eventually,
23:37I cleared my throat
23:38and introduced myself
23:39as her new neighbor.
23:41After a few seconds,
23:42she said her name
23:43was Priscilla
23:43and gave me a half smile
23:45and that was it.
23:47She didn't even ask my name,
23:49she just stood there
23:50watching me.
23:51I nodded
23:52and turned away
23:53not knowing what to say.
23:55I left feeling
23:55more unnerved
23:56than I wanted to admit.
23:58I never heard
23:59the door close behind me
24:00but I didn't want to turn around
24:01and get caught looking.
24:03Later that night,
24:04I went out to my balcony
24:05like usual,
24:06trying to forget
24:07about the strange interaction.
24:09At that point,
24:10I had no idea
24:11of the ordeal
24:11that I had just gotten
24:12myself into.
24:14When I glanced
24:15over the railing,
24:16there she was,
24:17that crazy looking lady
24:19from earlier,
24:20standing dead center
24:21in her yard,
24:22looking straight up
24:23at my house.
24:24She didn't move,
24:26didn't call out,
24:27just stood there,
24:28staring.
24:29It was one of those moments
24:30where you wonder
24:31if you're actually seeing
24:32what you think
24:33you're seeing.
24:34I didn't know
24:34if I should say something,
24:36wave,
24:36or pretend like
24:37I hadn't noticed her.
24:38It was one of the freakiest
24:40things I'd ever seen,
24:41and I didn't know
24:42how to handle it.
24:43I went back inside
24:44and told myself
24:45she was just a little
24:46messed up in the head
24:47and that I shouldn't
24:48be getting worked up
24:49over a harmless old lady,
24:50but it didn't stop there.
24:52The following night,
24:54I saw her again,
24:55but this time,
24:56she was moving
24:57from one window
24:58to another
24:58inside her house,
25:00watching me
25:00from each one.
25:02Although I pretended
25:03not to notice her,
25:04part of me felt like
25:05she knew
25:05that I knew
25:06she was watching.
25:07I was hoping
25:08she'd stop,
25:09but she didn't.
25:11She was still looking
25:12at me when I finished
25:12smoking and turned
25:13to go inside.
25:15Out of curiosity,
25:16I peeked out
25:17one of my windows
25:18about 20 minutes later
25:19to see if she was
25:19still looking at my house.
25:22To my horror,
25:23she actually was.
25:24I called my dad,
25:26and he told me
25:26that she probably
25:27had dementia or something,
25:29and that she was
25:29most likely
25:30just lonely
25:30or confused.
25:32He told me
25:32that I should actually
25:33feel bad for her.
25:34It was kind of hard
25:35to feel bad
25:36for someone
25:36who was borderline
25:37stalking me,
25:38but my dad
25:39calmed my nerves
25:40and assured me
25:40that she was harmless.
25:42A few nights passed
25:43without anything weird
25:44happening.
25:45I didn't see her
25:46in her yard
25:47or at any of her windows.
25:49I thought maybe
25:50my dad had been right
25:51and was starting
25:51to feel glad
25:52that I hadn't done
25:53something drastic.
25:55That is,
25:55until one morning
25:56when I found
25:57a woman's sock
25:58on my side
25:59of the fence
25:59just sitting
26:00in my yard.
26:01I stared at it,
26:03feeling a chill
26:03run through me.
26:05This wasn't just
26:05her strange behavior
26:06anymore.
26:07She'd been
26:08on my property.
26:09I didn't know
26:10what to do.
26:11I didn't want
26:12to confront her,
26:12but I was starting
26:13to feel like
26:13I couldn't ignore it
26:14either.
26:15I should have
26:16called the police
26:17right there,
26:17but I didn't
26:18because I didn't
26:19want to create
26:19issues with a neighbor.
26:21That night,
26:22as I was laying
26:23in bed,
26:23the doorbell
26:24started ringing.
26:26Not once,
26:27not twice,
26:28at least a dozen times,
26:30one right after
26:31the other.
26:32I didn't even
26:33need to look.
26:34I knew it was her.
26:36In my tired haze,
26:37I wasn't thinking
26:38clearly.
26:38I was more annoyed
26:39than scared.
26:41I got up,
26:42threw on a shirt,
26:43and went to the door,
26:44telling myself
26:44I'd just ask her
26:45to leave me alone.
26:46I told myself
26:47that I'd been
26:48putting this off
26:48for long enough,
26:50and it was about
26:50time I dealt with it.
26:52I have no idea
26:53why I wasn't scared
26:54in that moment.
26:55I still look back
26:56and cringe
26:57at how flippantly
26:57I handled the situation.
27:00I don't even want
27:01to say I was naive,
27:02but I can't think
27:02of a better word
27:03to describe my attitude
27:04to it all.
27:06The second I opened
27:06the door,
27:07she lunged at me.
27:09She ran full speed
27:10at me with a kitchen
27:11knife in her hand,
27:12her face twisted
27:13in rage.
27:14She started screaming,
27:15yelling something
27:16about how I had
27:16taken her son
27:17from her.
27:18I barely had time
27:19to process
27:20what was happening.
27:21I grabbed her arm,
27:22managing to wrestle
27:23the knife out of her grip,
27:24and I pinned her
27:25down on the floor.
27:26She was easy
27:27to overpower,
27:28but that didn't make
27:29the situation
27:30any less terrifying.
27:32My heart was racing
27:33and my hands were shaking
27:34as I held her there
27:35and called the police.
27:36She was still
27:37screaming nonsense
27:38about her son
27:39and told me
27:39that she was going
27:40to kill me.
27:41At one point
27:42she tried to bite me,
27:43but I wasn't going
27:44to let her go
27:44until the police arrived.
27:46It was the longest
27:47five minutes of my life.
27:49She never stopped
27:50screaming or squirming
27:51the entire time.
27:53When the police
27:53finally arrived,
27:55they restrained her
27:55and forced her
27:56into one of their cruisers.
27:58She screamed
27:59the whole time,
28:00and I could still
28:00hear her screaming
28:01even after they
28:02shoved her in the car.
28:04I had never been
28:04more scared in my life.
28:06The police made sure
28:07I was okay
28:08and told me
28:09she'd be sent
28:09to some kind
28:10of psychiatric facility.
28:11I never saw her
28:12again after that.
28:14This incident
28:15still weighs pretty heavily
28:16on my mind
28:17and has definitely
28:18made me a more
28:18paranoid and cautious person.
28:21I ended up moving out
28:22not even a year later.
28:25She's got an older
28:27girl.
28:28She's got an older
28:29daughter.
28:30She's got an older
28:31girl.
28:32She's got an old
28:33girl.
28:34She's got an older
28:35person.
28:36We 물러
28:37a more
28:40young.
28:42She's got an older
28:43girl.
