00:00I've been a police officer for a while now.
00:10I will tell you the experience that I have so far that creeps me out the most.
00:15This was when I was pretty new to being an officer.
00:18I was on patrol and driving the pretty standard police car.
00:21It was late at night and probably about 11pm.
00:24There was a call for a noise complaint that I was going to investigate.
00:27To me, it seemed like not that big of a deal, but you never know what can happen.
00:32So it was just me going to the scene.
00:34No other officers were there or going to go there.
00:37I drove to the address and the neighborhood was pretty quiet, but average for the most part.
00:42I guess I would say that the houses were a little more spread out here with larger yards.
00:46There was also a good amount of trees in the area.
00:48And on this particular street, many of the houses had large woods bordering the ends of their backyards.
00:54This was part of a nearby park and golf course and overall just more wild area.
00:59This street was kind of the last one in the neighborhood before the more wild land.
01:03So anyways, I parked my car on the side of the road in front of the address.
01:06Then I walked up the sidewalk and up the driveway.
01:10The house in question looked old and it looked like nobody was home.
01:13I observed that all the windows were covered by shades and all the lights in the house appeared to be off as well.
01:18The grass in the front yard was overgrown and there were no cars in the driveway.
01:22Overall, the entire property was in rough shape.
01:25I wasn't hearing any noise though.
01:27So I walked up to the front door and tried ringing the doorbell.
01:30I heard nothing at all.
01:32After a little while, I knocked on the door, but there was still nothing.
01:35I waited about a minute and looked around.
01:38The whole neighborhood was very quiet.
01:40I looked at the house number and I was definitely at the right address.
01:43I knocked one more time and announced myself.
01:46There was still nothing.
01:47As I was standing there on the front step and looking around, I saw a neighbor.
01:50A car drove down the street and pulled into the driveway next door.
01:54I left the front step and started walking over to them.
01:57The neighbor parked in the driveway of their house and then left the car.
02:01It was a woman and I waved to her and then walked over.
02:03I asked her if she knew the neighbors next door at all and I pointed to the house.
02:07She told me that nobody lived there and that the house had been abandoned for a while.
02:11This surprised me to hear that, but it also didn't surprise me that much given the condition of the property.
02:16I asked her if anybody ever went there or if she heard loud noises.
02:19She said no and she wasn't aware of anybody ever being there.
02:23I told her to have a good night and then I walked back over to the house, feeling confused.
02:27I was going to knock one more time and then I guess leave,
02:30because there didn't seem to be anybody there and there wasn't any noise going on that I heard.
02:34When I got back over to the front step, I was approaching it and I was sure that I heard somebody inside.
02:39It was the sound of somebody moving away from the front of the house and walking towards the back of it.
02:43The footsteps were easy to hear because of how quiet it was.
02:47After hearing this, I knocked on the door again and announced myself.
02:50I really thought that they would answer that time.
02:53I knew someone was in there, but still there was nothing.
02:56I stood there for about another minute and then I left the front step, but I did not leave.
03:01Instead, I walked around to the side of the house and then the backyard.
03:04I was wondering if maybe there was a more common door used, such as one at the side,
03:08and I was also curious to see if there were any signs of people in the backyard or other places on the property.
03:14Possibly there would be signs of forced entry if the house was in fact vacant and somebody had broken in.
03:19It was very dark back there.
03:21I walked around, but didn't see anything out of the normal.
03:24It was very overgrown back there as well, and so that didn't help much.
03:27I spent maybe five minutes walking the property and then went back around.
03:31When I got towards the front of the house again, I heard a loud noise.
03:34It sounded like something being smashed,
03:36almost like somebody was taking a baseball bat to the kitchen and just smashing stuff.
03:40It was very loud.
03:42I couldn't see in the windows and obviously did not know what it was,
03:45but I now knew what the noise complaint had probably been about.
03:48I walked back over to the front step quickly and then I banged on the front door.
03:52The loud noises had gone on for maybe 30 seconds.
03:55As soon as I knocked on the door though, they abruptly stopped.
03:58Once more, nobody came to the door and the house became silent again.
04:02As I was standing there on the step, I suddenly heard the back door to the house open.
04:06When it did, I instantly left the step and ran around the house.
04:10I got into the backyard and saw a man standing at the backside of the yard.
04:14I yelled at him to stop, but he didn't even turn back and look at me.
04:17He was not running, but walking rather quickly and heading straight for the woods.
04:21I ran after him as the guy entered the thick forest.
04:24I couldn't make out much about him because I really only saw his backside.
04:28By the time I reached the woods, he had been in there for a good 30 seconds.
04:32It was really overgrown back there and also very hard to see.
04:35Using my flashlight, I walked around in the woods looking for the man.
04:39I called out for him multiple times and I sort of heard noises in the distance for a while
04:43and I walked towards them, but soon things were quiet again.
04:46I looked around the woods for a good 10 minutes, but could not find the guy.
04:50Then I went back to the house.
04:51I called in what happened on the radio and another officer in the area joined me on the scene.
04:56The back door to the house was wide open and the house was confirmed to be vacant as well.
05:01Inside the house, it looked like things had been smashed with a bat, but nobody else was in there.
05:05We looked around more, but never found the man.
05:08Something about that night just really creeped me out and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
05:13Maybe that's because it was my first time dealing with a situation where things went kind of unexpected.
05:17I'm really not sure what was going on there.
05:19I think the guy inside thought that I had left when I went in the backyard and that's why he was smashing stuff again.
05:25Why he was smashing stuff at all though, I don't know.
05:27And why he was even in the house, I also don't know, because the property was vacant.
05:31But when he left, he just kind of disappeared in the woods and that was really strange.
05:36Overall, it was a crazy experience.
05:37It was a quiet afternoon in my backyard when I first heard the car pull into my neighbor's driveway.
05:53I didn't think much of it at first, assuming it was his wife, since we'd been talking earlier about going shopping together.
05:59Curiously, I climbed up on the fence to see when she'd be ready to leave for shopping.
06:03But when I looked down, I noticed it wasn't the car I recognized.
06:06It was an older, silver car.
06:08Nothing too special, but not the one that belonged to my neighbor.
06:12I dropped down from the fence and stayed hidden, hoping to get a better look through the small knot hole in the fence.
06:17The car was parked at the end of their driveway and a man stepped out, wearing what looked like a police uniform.
06:22He walked up to the door, holding nothing but a taser.
06:25It didn't look like he even had the belt on his uniform, which most officers have.
06:29That's when I felt a little uneasy.
06:31I mean, I live in a small town, and I know most of the local law enforcement.
06:35I didn't recognize this guy.
06:37He knocked on the door, but didn't get an answer, since nobody was home yet.
06:41He looked around, peering into the windows of the house.
06:43After a few seconds, he turned around and went back to his car.
06:47I wasn't sure what to make of it, but I wasn't about to let it go.
06:50I grabbed my phone and texted my neighbors, telling them exactly what I had seen.
06:54I let them know there was a guy in a police uniform holding a taser, and I wasn't sure if he was legit or up to something strange.
07:00It was hard to explain the feeling I had, but it didn't look right.
07:04Not long after, the husband pulled up to my house.
07:07He looked worried, and I could tell that he had something on his mind.
07:10He said that he'd been heading home when he saw the same thing that I did on his doorbell camera.
07:14He had a video of the man walking up to the door, and sure enough, he was holding the taser exactly like I had described.
07:21We both agreed that it didn't make sense.
07:23The husband called the sheriff's office, and soon enough, a deputy showed up.
07:26He watched the video and took my statement.
07:29He told me that even if somebody was serving papers, they wouldn't show up in an unmarked car like that.
07:34Besides, no local law enforcement vehicles matched the description of that car.
07:37I told him the guys seemed to be wearing a police uniform, but it wasn't a sheriff's uniform.
07:42We don't have a police department in our town, as it's covered by the sheriff, so that was odd too.
07:47The deputy seemed as confused as we were.
07:49He said that if it was something serious, like a warrant or arrest, it would have been handled differently.
07:54The neighbors thought maybe their oldest son had gotten into trouble, but even then, they agreed no cop would show up like that.
08:00The deputy said he would investigate it, but it didn't seem too hopeful.
08:03The worst part is that my neighbors don't know if this imposing officer had selected their house at random, or if it was a targeted attempt.
08:10So now they will be extremely wary in the near future.
08:23This happened back when I was in high school, but it's something that I will never forget.
08:28I was home alone for the weekend.
08:30My parents went out of town for a work conference, and they both worked at the same company.
08:34This happened a few times a year, and it was always fun for me, because when I was home alone, I would just eat pizza and play video games and stay up late.
08:41It was cool to have that kind of independence in high school, and my older brother was in college, so it was cool to have the whole place to myself.
08:48Our neighborhood was pretty nice.
08:50We were not super rich or anything, but overall, it was one of the nicer neighborhoods in our city.
08:55So I remember on Friday night, with my parents out of town, I had been hanging out around the house just playing video games and stuff after I had got back from school.
09:03I was planning to just stay up until I got too tired to stay awake anymore, and it would probably be about 1 a.m. or so.
09:09I remember that at around 10 o'clock at night, there was a knock at the front door to the house.
09:13I went over to a front window to look out of it before answering the door to see who was there.
09:17Even though I was experienced in being home alone, it was still always a little creepy at night, or if somebody was at the door.
09:24We didn't really get many people at the door, especially late at night.
09:27After looking out the window, I saw a cop standing on the front step.
09:31Surprisingly to me, right after I noticed him, he looked over and noticed me in the window.
09:35He smiled and waved at me in a friendly way.
09:38Seeing now that it was a cop, I figured I better answer the door for him.
09:42And he seemed cheerful, so I didn't think it was anything bad.
09:44I went over to the door and opened it.
09:46The policeman said hi, and sorry to bother me so late at night.
09:50He was nice, but something about him seemed a little off.
09:53I didn't know what it was, if it was his uniform or something like that, or how he was talking or what.
09:58But after I said hi, he told me that he was looking for a suspect in the area.
10:02He said that he didn't want to scare me, but he had reason to believe that the suspect might be hiding out in the area, possibly in someone's backyard.
10:09Then he asked me if I had seen or heard anything strange, and I said no because I hadn't.
10:14He then asked me if my parents or anybody else was home, and I said no.
10:17Obviously, I wasn't going to lie to a cop.
10:20So he then told me that I was probably not in any danger, but he just wanted to look around in our backyard.
10:26I said that it was okay, and then he left.
10:28The whole thing seemed a little weird, but overall, I didn't think too much of it.
10:32I was sort of creeped out that there was a suspect in the area, but if a cop was here looking for him, I felt safer about it.
10:38So I just went back to my video games at that point.
10:41About 20 minutes later, there was another knock on the front door.
10:44I went there and saw that the cop was back.
10:47I opened the door, and he told me that he was working with other law enforcement and the FBI, or something like that.
10:52I don't remember the exact words he used, but that was basically what he was saying.
10:56Something along those lines.
10:57He then said that they had an investigation going.
11:00He told me to go and leave the back door unlocked, and to stay away from that area of the house.
11:04I must have had a confused look on my face at that point.
11:07The cop then said that he couldn't get into any details, but to trust him, and the matter would be resolved by the morning, and that I was probably safe.
11:14I said okay, and then I went in the house and unlocked the back door.
11:18Then I went back over to the cop and told him that I did.
11:21He said that he would be in touch, and then he left.
11:23After that, I was super confused.
11:25I was trying to think of why I would have to unlock the back door.
11:28Did the cops want to use my house as a hideout or something?
11:31I had no idea, but I stayed away from that part of the house like I was instructed.
11:35Then I went back to playing video games for probably an hour or so.
11:39But the whole time, I was feeling more and more creeped out.
11:42I didn't feel safe going to sleep.
11:44I was paranoid that the criminal guy might get in the back door of the house that was now unlocked.
11:48I looked out a window into the backyard, but there was nothing.
11:51No cops, nobody at all.
11:53I knew that I wouldn't get any sleep, and it was now almost midnight, so I decided to call the local police department.
11:59I wanted to get more information or an update of if the guy was caught.
12:02Maybe they had found the guy, and I wasn't in any danger at all.
12:05So I called the police and explained the situation.
12:08I was met with confusion at first, but I was soon told that there was no police officer investigating anything in the area,
12:14and that the guy I encountered sounded like a fake cop.
12:17There was no suspect in the area either.
12:20They told me to lock the door and said that they would send a real officer to my house.
12:24So I quickly ran down and locked the back door to the house.
12:27Then I waited.
12:28When the real officer got there, he was way different than the other guy.
12:31From the way he talked to how his uniform looked, it was way more professional,
12:35and I realized that the other guy was definitely a fake.
12:38The real cops looked around for the guy for a while, but they couldn't find him.
12:42Then they left.
12:43After that, the fake cop never returned.
12:45I was a little scared for the rest of the weekend, but nothing else happened.
12:49Looking back, it was a crazy situation.
12:51I think the fake cop was planning to break into our house or something.
12:55He probably was going to wait until later that night when I was maybe asleep.
12:58I also think that he was nearby in the area, and he must have seen the real cops there,
13:02and that's why he never returned.
13:04Either that, or possibly he did try to enter the house, but the door was locked, so he went away.
13:09I also think he might have been working with someone else.
13:11Either way, he was a fake, and I'm glad that I called the real police about the situation.
13:15When my friend and I were 17 years old, we were a little buzzed from party hopping all night.
13:31We were hungry and felt like we were good enough to drive to Wendy's for some food.
13:35We were out at about 2 a.m.
13:37I had no idea that it was illegal to be out past a certain time if you're under 18 unsupervised.
13:42I got a text from a friend, and she asked me to get her an order,
13:46and then she would meet us at this intersection and eat with us.
13:49I got to the intersection, and there weren't any gas stations or grocery stores,
13:53just some creepy office buildings and a dirt lot.
13:55I stupidly chose the dirt lot to wait for my friend,
13:58who called me and asked me why there was a cop parked behind me.
14:01I was surprised and very confused, but when I turned around,
14:05I discovered that a cop was in fact behind me.
14:07I have no idea if the cop was already parked in the lot,
14:10or if he had somehow snuck up without us noticing.
14:13Luckily, the car smelled like food and not booze and cigarettes,
14:16but this cop knew I was under the influence.
14:18I had a large bottle of rum that had already been opened
14:20that I tried desperately to hide under my seat before he knocked on my window.
14:24Soon he came to the window, and I rolled it down.
14:26I thought for sure I was going to get a DUI.
14:29When the cop got there, he asked me and my friend for our parents' phone numbers.
14:33My friend's mom got a call to pick her up,
14:35and my friend got a verbal lashing from the cop for being out underage past curfew
14:39and explained the citation, so I knew what I was in for.
14:42I refused to give my parents' house phones
14:43since I didn't really want to get in trouble with them.
14:46I told him they simply didn't have one, only a cell phone number.
14:49My new phone didn't have voicemail set up yet,
14:51so I had him call my phone number thinking that it was my parents' number.
14:55I switched my phone to silent as he repeatedly called.
14:58I told him they were probably out with friends themselves, and the cop said okay.
15:01He explained the ticket to me
15:03and said that he was going to follow me home, so I got home safe.
15:06I made sure that I drove the speed limit and didn't make any errors.
15:09I parked my car in front of my house,
15:11and my parents' cars were in the closed garage, and the house was dark.
15:14It was perfect.
15:15My lies seemed true, and it looked like nobody was home.
15:18The cop proceeded to park his car and followed me to the front door.
15:22I unlocked it, and I nervously said thank you,
15:24but he, instead of ringing the doorbell or doing the famous police officer knock,
15:28followed me into the house and locked the door behind us.
15:30He was talking to me, making small conversation,
15:33checking out my living room, and I started to freeze up,
15:36because I was suddenly sensing a different energy from him.
15:39He asked me where my bedroom was and asked me to take him to it,
15:42but I instead took him to my parents' room.
15:44I turned on the light, very thankful to see my sleepy-eyed parents
15:47shocked to see an armed grown man behind their young daughter.
15:50The officer just let out a breath and said in my ear,
15:53You lied to me, sweetheart.
15:54Then he instantly switched back to police officer mode,
15:57telling my parents that he found me out at an illegal time,
15:59and that I'd need to pay a fine and attend a class.
16:02I never told anyone about the comments he made to me,
16:04but my dad asked me why he was in our house.
16:07I told him I didn't understand either.
16:09He never read me any rights, just followed me home.
16:12I can't help but think back to that night,
16:14and think about what could have happened if my parents had actually been out of town,
16:17or out with friends.
16:18I know there are good cops out there,
16:20so I constantly go back and forth with being freaked out by the encounter,
16:23and then thinking maybe he knew I was lying and wanted to talk to my parents.
16:26The comments he made calling me sweetheart and how his energy changed once we were in my home
16:30is still what makes me think he had other things in mind than my safety.
16:33This is something that happened a long time ago.
16:46I worked as a police officer for a few years when I was younger.
16:50It's a job that I will never forget and can be very intense at times.
16:54It's not for everyone, and it wasn't for me.
16:57Overall, it was too stressful for me to do for more than a few years,
17:00and so I ended up choosing to change careers.
17:02I'm feeling much better now in the career that I currently have.
17:06Nothing really that crazy happened in my time as a cop,
17:09but I had some friends deal with some really crazy situations.
17:12I certainly have a lot of respect for all the officers out there,
17:15but one memory in my short time in law enforcement
17:18stands out as the most strange thing that ever happened.
17:21I worked in a small town.
17:23It was way out there and in the country, and normally very quiet.
17:26Not a whole lot happened typically in the area that I patrolled.
17:29Mostly, it would be speeding cars and other traffic violations.
17:33Occasionally other calls and a little bit of everything,
17:35but I'd spend much of my time patrolling the roads.
17:38I also worked a lot of night shifts, and so the roads would be very quiet generally.
17:43On one night, it was very late.
17:44I don't recall exactly when, but the roads were dead.
17:47It had been dark out for hours, and the road that I was on had no streetlights.
17:51Most of them didn't in that area.
17:53There would maybe be one here and there.
17:55I was just driving down one road surrounded by woods and coming up to an intersection.
18:00When I got to the stop sign, I was headed north,
18:02and I saw a car going towards the west who was also approaching the intersection.
18:06As I came to the four-way stop, I saw the car not slow down at all
18:10and completely blow through the stop sign.
18:12It was a silver four-door sedan, and the windows were very tinted.
18:16But also, what stood out to me was that the headlights were completely off.
18:19I'm not even sure how this car was seeing the roads,
18:22because there was like nobody else out there at all.
18:25Almost immediately, I turned on my lights,
18:27and I took a left to conduct a traffic stop on the silver car.
18:30There were two obvious violations, possibly more.
18:33Running a stop sign, not having lights on,
18:35and maybe even windows that were too tinted.
18:38When I turned left, I sped up to catch up to the car.
18:40It was not speeding, at least.
18:42The speed limit was 55, and the car was probably going about 50.
18:46I quickly caught up to it,
18:47and the car was almost hard to see in the dark because of it having no lights on at all.
18:52However, the car did not pull over.
18:53I then noticed that the car also didn't have any back plates on it.
18:57Another violation.
18:58A wave of adrenaline started to hit me, and I felt myself getting a little bit nervous.
19:02It seemed like the car was not going to pull over.
19:05As I continued driving right behind the car,
19:07we went for another 30 seconds or so, and they still didn't pull over.
19:11I turned on my siren to make it more obvious that I was there.
19:14There was no way that this person did not know that I was behind them trying to pull them over.
19:18But still, they did not move to the side of the road.
19:20They just continued driving.
19:22They started going faster, though, and then suddenly the car made a right down a more quiet and narrow road.
19:27I took the right as well, and I radioed in that I was trying to perform a traffic stop and the vehicle was not pulling over.
19:33I informed dispatch where I was for possible backup.
19:36But in the town where I worked, it was sprawling and very rural,
19:39so it would take a little while for anybody else to get there.
19:42The car still did not pull over.
19:44They drove down the quiet road and then took a sudden left.
19:47It was clear that they were trying to lose me.
19:49I kept following the best I could.
19:51The car soon took this really narrow dirt road.
19:54I had never been on this road before, and it was very winding.
19:57The trees were growing very close to the road, and we drove down here for a little while,
20:01and I continued to try to pull the car over and relay information about what was happening on the radio.
20:06As we kept going, I thought about trying to perform a pit maneuver,
20:09but I couldn't get to the car and the road was too narrow.
20:12The car then turned on another dirt road very quickly and at the last moment.
20:16I almost didn't make the turn, and I had to slow down.
20:19I saw another road shortly after the one that the car took.
20:22As I made my way onto that road, I lost a little bit of ground, but I saw where the car went.
20:27It turned on another road and was briefly out of my sight.
20:30I quickly drove down that road and turned to the one that the car was on.
20:33I was just on time to see the car making another turn on a street up ahead.
20:37Somehow, the car seemed to be navigating these streets insanely well.
20:40I sped up and then made the next turn.
20:43I saw the car far up the road.
20:45As I went faster, the car quickly turned again.
20:47I turned onto the next road and noticed that the car was turning once more.
20:51This road was another dirt road surrounded by woods.
20:54I honestly had no clue where I was anymore.
20:56I drove down that road trying to catch up to the car after it had turned again,
21:00but when I turned to the next road where I thought that the car went, it was gone.
21:04It just wasn't there.
21:04I went up and looked for more roads or a secret driveway, but I didn't see anything.
21:09I went straight, looking left, right, and forward.
21:12I couldn't find the car at all.
21:14Its lights had been off, so that gave it a huge advantage, but still, I could not believe that it was gone.
21:19I radioed in that I might have lost it.
21:21Within five minutes, I had help from several more police cars.
21:25We all drove the area searching for the next hour or so.
21:28We didn't find the car at all.
21:29I was left extremely confused.
21:31I have no idea how the car got away from me.
21:34After that, for the rest of my shift, I was wondering about it.
21:37We were not able to locate the car or find out who was driving it.
21:40To this day, I don't know.
21:42Whoever it was, though, really knew how to drive well.
21:45I think the car was also modified and handled really good.
21:48Maybe it was somebody who runs from the cops as a sport or kind of a hobby.
21:52I also don't know how they saw so well with no lights, but that one's still a mystery to me.
22:01This happened to me back in 2009.
22:10I was 22 at the time, but I've always been short and kind of baby-faced.
22:14I've been mistaken for a teenager more times than I can count.
22:18That evening, I had just finished a driving lesson, which didn't help my case looking like a teen as I still didn't have my license.
22:24Normally, my instructor would drop me off right in front of my apartment, but that day he had another appointment and let me off at the bus stop nearby.
22:31It wasn't far.
22:32My building was about 500 feet down a quiet street.
22:35The area was still under development.
22:37There were a couple of old houses on either side of the road, totally empty, and my apartment block was at the very end.
22:43No shops or cafes nearby.
22:45The only commercial building was a small medical clinic a few streets away, so sometimes people would get a little lost and ask for directions, but that was rare.
22:53It was around 8 p.m., and the sun had just gone down.
22:57The streetlights were on, but they didn't do much.
22:59About halfway to my building, I noticed a car passed me, then it slowed down.
23:03I thought nothing of it until it stopped and started reversing slowly until it was behind me.
23:08It was an older car with a woman driving, and there was a man in the passenger seat.
23:12I figured they were going to ask for directions to the clinic or something.
23:15The woman rolled down her window and asked,
23:17Do you live here?
23:18I stopped walking, a bit unsure, and said,
23:20Yeah.
23:21She said,
23:22We're the police, and we're going to take you home.
23:24I just stood there.
23:26The car looked completely normal.
23:28They weren't wearing uniforms or showing badges or anything.
23:31I remember laughing at them as I didn't know what to say.
23:34I think they thought I was a kid.
23:35A small girl walking alone at night.
23:37Easy target.
23:38The woman got more serious.
23:40You have to respect the police, she said.
23:42Get in the car, and we'll take you home.
23:44She kept repeating that.
23:45The man in the passenger seat hadn't said a word.
23:47They had to have thought I was a young kid, because it was hilarious that they thought
23:51they could pass as police officers in everyday clothes in an old car.
23:54The man in the passenger seat reached for the door handle to open it, and that was when
23:58I got scared.
23:59I turned and ran.
24:01When I got to my apartment building, I called my mom frantically and had her buzz me in.
24:05My dad went outside right after.
24:07He walked up and down the road, but the car was gone.
24:09He called the police and gave them a description of the car and the two people inside.
24:13That was definitely one of the many times where I wish I looked my age.
24:17A few years ago, I lived in an apartment by myself.
24:30I worked a job that I no longer have, but for the job, I would work all kinds of odd hours.
24:35It really messed up my sleep schedule, so I'm glad that I no longer work there.
24:40But one thing that I would do a lot in that time period is go on walks late at night, or
24:44all kinds of weird hours really.
24:45I would also sometimes walk in the early hours of the morning.
24:49Near my apartment, there was this really long walking trail.
24:52It went from the apartment complex to a park nearby, and a large part of the path went through
24:57the woods.
24:58In that area, the woods was massive, and it was also very dense.
25:01It was common to see animals such as deer or sometimes fox or even coyotes near the path.
25:07I know that walking on the path in the woods seems creepy at night, and it is, but I really
25:11wasn't that scared.
25:12I would walk the trail during the day too, but with my sleep schedule messed up, I'd
25:17go a lot at night.
25:18It would usually help me to be able to sleep when I would get back, and so that was part
25:22of why I would go.
25:23It was relaxing, and being outside in the fresh air also made me more relaxed when I
25:27got back home.
25:28And as you could guess, when I walked at night, I would never see anybody.
25:31The trail was quiet as it was, but during the night time, there would never be anyone.
25:35Sometimes, outside, closer to the apartment complex here and there, I might see people
25:40taking their dogs out or something.
25:42But once I got into the woods, there was never anyone.
25:45I remember up until the night of this story, the scariest experience I had in the woods
25:49was when I came across a couple of deer.
25:51I heard a noise in the woods, and it spooked me, but when I saw the deer, they crossed the
25:55path, and I just kept going.
25:56So, on this night, I went out at about 2 a.m.
25:59I had recently returned home from work, and it was a nice but cool evening.
26:03I wanted to get some fresh air and exercise, and then go back and go to bed.
26:08When I got out there that night, things were quiet like usual.
26:11I didn't see anyone.
26:12I got into the woods and walked pretty far.
26:15I was maybe 20 minutes out there on the trail, and like right in the middle of the thick forest.
26:19As I was walking, suddenly, I noticed up ahead blue and red flashing police lights.
26:24They looked like they were coming from up the trail and right in the middle of the woods.
26:27They were to my left, and I thought that it was really strange, but it was hard to tell
26:31exactly where the lights were coming from because of how dark it was out there.
26:35I was confused nevertheless.
26:37I thought that maybe it was coming from a street in the distance behind the woods, and I was
26:40just seeing it through the woods.
26:42But the more I walked and the closer I got, it looked a lot more like the lights were coming
26:46from right in the middle of the forest off the trail.
26:49There were really no other paths going off trail, so this was strange.
26:52I kept going, and soon got as close as I could on trail to the lights.
26:56I looked at them, and they were definitely in the woods.
26:59I didn't really hear anything, though, nobody talking or moving through the woods.
27:03I kept watching the lights, trying to make sense of them.
27:06Then I decided to take a few steps off the trail and into the forest to investigate.
27:11However, as I started to go off trail, the lights suddenly turned off.
27:15It was really strange.
27:16I now hardly saw anything in the dark.
27:18For some reason, I called out, asking if anybody was there.
27:22Looking back, I don't know why I did that.
27:24But nevertheless, when I did, I got no response.
27:27I heard nothing at all.
27:28So at that point, I was feeling kind of creeped out and decided to head back.
27:32I walked back on the trail to my apartment.
27:35The whole time, I was looking over my shoulder every so often to see if the lights would return.
27:39They never did, and I went back home and then went to bed a short time later.
27:43I was confused about it, but overall forgot it pretty quickly.
27:47However, a few nights later, I went for a walk again pretty late.
27:50It was around the same time as before.
27:53I'm not sure if it was the same spot again, but overall, I remember seeing police lights
27:57off the trail in the woods again.
27:59This was really weird.
28:00I was very curious as to what these were.
28:02I thought that maybe they were some kind of security lights.
28:05I was sure that there was some logical explanation, but I was just curious as to what it was.
28:10So when I got closer, once more, I went off the path.
28:13Not long into this, the lights all turned off again.
28:16It was like the same thing as before.
28:18I thought that it was really weird how they turned off as soon as I got into the woods,
28:21but I kept going this time.
28:23I didn't really hear anything, and I didn't say anything this time.
28:27I walked for about two or three minutes off the trail going to where I had seen the lights.
28:31It was pretty thick woods, but soon, I reached a little clearing.
28:34I was sure that this is where the lights had been.
28:37I looked around and didn't see or hear anything strange at all.
28:41As I was looking around, I started to feel really creeped out.
28:44I asked if anybody was there, and I got no response.
28:46Then, as I was still in the clearing, I heard somebody moving in the woods behind me.
28:51It sounded like someone walking in the woods.
28:53They were farther in the woods and in the opposite direction of the path, and were heading towards me.
28:58I happened to be facing the opposite way towards the trail.
29:01When I heard whoever was there approaching, I just took off.
29:04I bolted for the woods and ran back for the trail.
29:07I didn't look to see who was there, and I was not chased,
29:10but I didn't stop running until I made it back on the trail.
29:12Then, I jogged all the way back to my apartment.
29:15It was really strange, and I was super creeped out.
29:18The next day, I saw that there was a sign at the entrance of the woods,
29:21blocking the whole trail that said that the trail was closed and to keep out.
29:25I had no idea why or what was going on there.
29:28Somebody was in the woods in the middle of the night, though.
29:30After like a week, the trail opened again.
29:33I did go down it a few more times and walk through the woods,
29:35but never again at night.
29:47This happened a couple of years ago.
29:49I was already mistrusting of cops to begin with,
29:52but after this, there's no trust whatsoever.
29:55Back in 2020, I was struggling badly with my mental illness,
29:59so a friend of mine called for a wellness check.
30:01During a wellness check, cops are usually the first ones to be dispatched.
30:05A group of four cops came to my door that day.
30:08They went through the usual questions asked during a wellness check.
30:11I accepted the ambulance to go to the hospital,
30:13and while I waited, I had to stay on the porch
30:15so that the police officers could keep an eye on me.
30:18I mentioned a little bit as to why this was happening,
30:20and one of the cops decided to become my temporary therapist.
30:24He was giving me the usual basic mental health positivity,
30:27telling me that things would get better and it was only temporary.
30:30Then, it started to get weird.
30:31He told me that I was obviously loved very deeply by people
30:34and that I was too beautiful to throw away my life.
30:37He was younger, so it kind of went over my head when it happened.
30:40I was pretty distraught, so I took it as him being extra nice.
30:43Finally, the ambulance arrived.
30:45The cop ended up giving me his card
30:47and told me to call him with an update as soon as I got out of the hospital.
30:50He claimed that it was because he wanted to see if I ended up alright.
30:53Once again, that went over my head.
30:55Two weeks later, I was finally released from the hospital.
30:58I was going through my usual decompression after getting out of the hospital
31:01when the doorbell rang and my mom called me over.
31:04Before I opened the door, she said that it was the cop from before.
31:07I was confused.
31:08How did he even know I was out of the hospital?
31:11I went out there to talk to him, obviously uncomfortable.
31:14He told me he stopped by to check on me because he had been really concerned about me.
31:17He told me that he had told his wife about my situation
31:20and that they both expressed deep empathy for me.
31:22He also said that since he had his kid, he had more of a soft spot.
31:26I was extremely uncomfortable at this point.
31:28I was giving him one word replies and basically just letting him talk to me.
31:32Finally, he stopped and gave me his card again.
31:34He encouraged me to reach out whenever I wanted.
31:37I gave him a meek thank you and ran back inside.
31:40My mom joked that he was obviously flirting with me,
31:42which was strange as a married man with a newborn baby.
31:45I just shrugged off the situation and went on with my life
31:48until I started noticing a cop car sitting on the corner of the intersection of our street.
31:52We lived in a nice neighborhood,
31:54so it was really unusual that the cop car had been sitting there daily for a week.
31:58This is when I started getting scared that it might have been the cop from before.
32:02After two weeks of the cops sitting there,
32:03I decided to drive past them to see if it was the same cop.
32:06As soon as I got close, they left.
32:08They returned a couple more days after, but I never saw them again.
32:12I could have just been paranoid, but part of me truly believes he was stalking me.
32:16Thankfully, I don't live with my parents anymore,
32:18so I don't have to deal with any cops from there again.
32:22My friend is a police officer,
32:32and he recently told me what he said is the craziest experience he's ever had in his time as a cop.
32:37He gave me permission to write the story and submit it, so I am.
32:41He said that he was working at night,
32:43and he used to work a lot of overnight shifts.
32:45Recently, he changed to working during the day, which is nice.
32:48So there was a call from someone saying there was a home invasion.
32:51I guess a man called the cops saying that somebody had broken into his house,
32:55and he needed officers there immediately.
32:57My friend was the first to respond.
32:59He got to the scene, which he described as a quiet but normal-looking neighborhood.
33:03There were many houses all pretty close to each other,
33:05and most of them being two stories tall.
33:07He got to the house and didn't see anything right off the bat.
33:11He walked up the driveway and was approaching the front step.
33:14All of a sudden, he heard something above him
33:16and looked up briefly to see something flying his way.
33:19It was a TV, and it came out of the top window of the house, which was the attic.
33:23The TV flew down, missed my friend by about three feet,
33:26and then hit the driveway and broke.
33:28He looked up and saw a guy with the window open looking down at him.
33:31My friend says that the man looked truly insane.
33:34The man then reached into the window and took out another object and threw it at him.
33:38It was some type of furniture piece.
33:40I can't remember what.
33:41My friend was under the impression that this must be the home intruder.
33:45He told him to stop and to show his hands.
33:47The man did not and ducked back into the house.
33:49My friend radioed what was going on.
33:52Now, the house did not have a front step that was covered.
33:54Standing at the front door, you were still in territory
33:57where you could be hit from stuff flying from the window.
33:59My friend went to the door, and it was locked.
34:01He backed up this time to see the man go to the window again and throw something else at him.
34:06Then the man quickly ducked back inside.
34:08My friend was trying to get him to stop and come outside, but the man would not.
34:12So at that point, my friend moved back and went towards his car to wait for backup.
34:16As he was near the car, the man suddenly left the house out the front door
34:20and came charging down the driveway.
34:22He stopped and then started throwing golf balls at my friend.
34:25He got hit with one, but was not injured.
34:27The others all hit his police car, which my friend then hid behind.
34:30My friend then went after the man with the taser, but the guy ran back into the house.
34:34My friend shot at him with the taser, but missed.
34:37All this happened in the span of about two or three minutes.
34:40Then backup arrived.
34:41With the extra officers, they were able to catch the man and arrest him.
34:45It turned out there was no intruder.
34:47The man that lived in the house was the guy who was going after my friend.
34:50He called the cops, claiming that his house was broken into and to get down there.
34:54Then he just wanted to throw stuff at them, apparently.
34:56The guy turned out to be on drugs.
34:58That was my friend's craziest moment as a police officer.
35:11This story happened back when I was in college, around 1998.
35:15I went to school on a converted military base.
35:18The base was shut down, and a small part of it was now a campus.
35:22This means there were a lot of back roads and buildings that were essentially abandoned,
35:26other than the local military police that still patrolled the site.
35:30I lived in a small apartment on base, and my girlfriend at the time was house-sitting about a half hour away.
35:36Near 1am, she called me and woke me up, panicked because she thought she heard somebody walking around outside the house,
35:41and asked me to come stay with her.
35:43I was worried, so I got up, threw some clothes on, and got moving.
35:47There was a way to save some time by cutting through the abandoned parts of the base.
35:50It was sort of a shortcut, and since I was in a hurry, this seemed like the best way.
35:54There was no power to this part of the base, so the streetlights weren't working.
35:58It was pitch black aside from the lights for my headlights.
36:01I was on this back road, and suddenly I saw flashing lights.
36:04I was being pulled over.
36:06Granted, I was speeding a bit because I was in a hurry,
36:08but I was also speeding sort of in the middle of nowhere.
36:11I pulled over to the side of the road.
36:13The officer got out and did the standard license and registration.
36:17I handed it over to him and told him about my phone call
36:19and that I just wanted to make sure that my girlfriend was safe.
36:22He went back to his car and just sat there.
36:24A few minutes later, another police car pulled up.
36:27Through the rearview mirror reflection, I could see them talking and staring at me.
36:31Finally, the new police officer came up to my car and told me to get out of the car.
36:35I asked him why, but he just repeated the order.
36:37Now that I was out of the car, I realized both cars had two officers in them,
36:42so it was me and four police officers.
36:44They had me stand to the side while they started searching my car.
36:47One of them turned to me and said,
36:48You know, you seem to be in a big hurry in the middle of the night.
36:51What are you running from?
36:52I was kind of shocked at the accusation,
36:54but I told him the story I told the first officer about my girlfriend's call.
36:58He turned away.
36:59The next officer told me that my car was pretty nice.
37:02By how late it was and how fast I was driving,
37:04he said it seemed like I stole it.
37:06This was odd, and I pointed out the registration and my license all match.
37:10The officers started talking again amongst each other.
37:13One stood by me as the other three grouped together.
37:16Then, out of nowhere, two more squad cars and four more officers showed up.
37:20Keep in mind this is on a deserted road at around 1.30 a.m. with no lights.
37:25The seven of them started talking while an officer stayed with me.
37:28One went back to my car and pulled out a bag of tortillas
37:31that I assume fell out of a grocery bag earlier that day.
37:33He then looked at the other police officer and said,
37:36This kid was speeding in the middle of the night with food and supplies in his car.
37:40Sounds like someone who did something and needed to get away and hide for a while.
37:43At this point, I was both scared and angry at the absurdity of what was happening.
37:47Not to mention, I was still worried about the call from my girlfriend.
37:50They all looked at me, waiting for a reply.
37:53I didn't really know what to say.
37:54Finally, one officer said,
37:56You see the wear on these tires?
37:58This wear is from someone who does a lot of high-speed driving.
38:00You must like to speed, huh?
38:02He asked me.
38:03I was so angry at this point, I blurted out,
38:05Yep, I speed everywhere all the time, as a joke.
38:08At that moment, I wish I could grab the words and take them back.
38:11The officer's face froze like this was the moment he had been waiting for.
38:15He looked at the other seven police officers and then went back to his car and opened the trunk.
38:19I have no idea why.
38:20The officer who was standing near me then asked,
38:23Where are you from?
38:24I replied, and when he heard about my city,
38:26he mentioned how that was where our state senator was from also.
38:29I wish I could say I planned this, but out of my incredibly nervous mouth,
38:32I mentioned how the senator was my neighbor.
38:35The truth was that we lived near each other and I met her once, but that was it.
38:39The cop by the trunk of the squad car overheard and asked,
38:41What did the kids say?
38:42The police officer said to me,
38:44Kid says he's friends with the senator.
38:46They all paused and looked at each other.
38:47The trunk officer closed the trunk, came up to me, got in my face,
38:51and said to get the heck out of there in less kind words.
38:54I got back in my car.
38:56The whole episode took about 45 minutes.
38:58I drove the main roadway and finally got to my girlfriend,
39:01who was also worried because a 30 minute drive had taken over an hour.
39:04I still have no idea what was going on or what would have happened
39:07if my nervous mouth had not blabbed about the senator
39:10and why that changed anything about what the officer's plan was.
39:13I was going to take it very long.
39:27I was going to say about one hour and a half to the guy.
39:30It's a very strange thing.
