00:00A 37-year-old delivery man has pleaded guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates Court on Friday
00:07to assaulting veteran journalist Haresh Diol in Bangsar on November 25.
00:14R. Krishnan, who was charged alongside another suspect still at large,
00:17was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to Haresh outside the Tanjung Balai group building
00:23on Jalan Talawi 3 between 3.10 p.m. and 3.32 p.m.
00:28When asked to enter a plea, the accused pleaded guilty under Section 323 of the Penal Code,
00:34which carries a maximum one-year jail term, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
00:41Deputy Public Prosecutor Henchgo requested a different date to prepare the statement of facts
00:46and for sentencing, proposing bail of RM4,000 in one surety.
00:51The accused's lawyer, Mohamed Salihan Mastor, requested a lower bail,
00:55citing that his client earns only RM40 a day and has six children.
01:01Magistrate Ily Mariska Khalizan fixed bail at RM2,000 and set Jan. 22 for sentencing.
01:09On Tuesday, Haresh, the founder of the 2213 portal, was assaulted by two individuals,
01:16with one of them recording the attack on a mobile phone.
01:18The incident has drawn condemnation from Gerakan Media Merdeka,
01:24the Sports Writers' Association of Malaysia,
01:26the National Union of Journalists Malaysia,
01:29and the Football Association of Malaysia,
01:32with many expressing concern over the apparent targeting of a journalist carrying out his duties.
01:38However, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Masos
01:42said the suspect is believed to have targeted the wrong person,
01:46with initial investigations pointing to a personal dispute
01:49involving alleged harassment of the suspect's wife.
