A corporal in the armed forces pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court in Bentong on Monday (April 6) to seven charges of assaulting fellow personnel last month.

Sukry Tasu, 37, entered the plea before Magistrate Muhammad Aiman Azahan.

00:01An army corporal is facing seven assault charges after allegedly attacking fellow soldiers,
00:06including one who suffered grievous injuries inside a military camp in Bentong last month.
00:1137-year-old Sukritasu appeared before Magistrate Muhammad Ayman Azahan in Bentong on Monday,
00:17where he entered a plea of not guilty to all seven charges.
00:21According to the charges, the incident unfolded at the armory store of Company C,
00:2625th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment Camp, on the 30th of March.
00:30On the first and most serious charge, Sukrit is accused of causing grievous hurt
00:35to a 24-year-old fellow soldier, Muhammad Amirul Razik Rosafindi, at 8.30am.
00:42That charge is framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code,
00:45which carries a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
00:50Later that same evening, at around 8.30pm,
00:53six more personnel at the same location are alleged to have been assaulted by the accused.
00:58The victims are aged between 19 and 22.
01:01Those six charges are brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code,
01:05carrying a maximum penalty of one year's imprisonment,
01:08a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
01:11The prosecution proposed bail of RM10,000 for the first charge.
01:15The defence sought a reduction, noting that Sukri, who serves as a storekeeper,
01:19earns a net monthly income of just RM1,800.
01:23The magistrate set bail at RM7,000 for the grievous hurt charge
01:27and RM2,000 for each of the remaining six charges.
01:30As an additional condition,
01:32Sukri is prohibited from approaching or contacting any of the seven victims
01:36until the case is concluded.
01:38The case was fixed for document submission on May 18.
01:49And this is the truth without reason.
01:51The secret is to put them under defence.
