00:00I found out at 17 that I was born without a uterus.
00:03He was not able to get in to my ovaries like he thought
00:06because they were so far up underneath my ribs.
00:09Had fully functioning ovaries that produced eggs, went through a cycle, but no uterus.
00:14We had problems finding a surrogate and I finally just was like,
00:17okay, we'll just go through an agency.
00:19Well, agencies cost $100,000.
00:21That does not include your treatments, your medicine, your ultrasounds, nothing.
00:25That is literally just to find a surrogate.
00:28By the good Lord above, we had a friend that reached out and was like,
00:33hey, I'll do it.
00:34You know, she knew kind of what we were going through and she said, I'll do it.
00:37We start our IVF and I'm doing the stems
00:40and they knew that my ovaries were up underneath my ribs,
00:44but they didn't know how bad it was.
00:46Well, while we're doing the stems and they're checking me every other day,
00:49they decide to do my egg retrieval at a surgery center instead of the clinic
00:55because he was afraid when he went in with the needles
00:58that it would hit an organ.
01:00So when I wake up from my egg retrieval at the surgery center,
01:04I immediately knew something was wrong.
01:05Nobody said anything, but I just felt like something was wrong.
01:09Brooke instantly knew something wasn't right
01:11and she pleaded with everyone to check her
01:14to see if everything was normal.
01:16It was not.
01:16And so I kept asking the doctor, what's wrong, what's wrong?
01:20And he's like, nothing, it's okay, it's okay.
01:22Everybody's like, it's okay, it's fine.
01:24You're just waking up from the anesthesia and all this other stuff.
01:26It was not fine.
01:27He was not able to get in to my ovaries like he thought
01:31because they were so far up underneath my ribs.
01:33He was just basically blindly sticking the needle in
01:37to try to retrieve as many as he could.
01:39I think he got six.
01:40They take him back to the clinic and when they get there,
01:43they realize they've been exposed to too much carbon dioxide.
01:46So they immediately start fertilizing them, trying to save them.
01:50And he called me that night and he said, you know, we've lost them all.
01:53Nothing is going to be able to save, but I have a plan, I think.
01:56So he says, I want you to go see this other doctor in Chattanooga.
02:00He's an oncologist for gynecology and we've got a plan, we think.
02:03We're going to try.
02:04So basically, I was getting picked.
02:06They have a surgery where younger women, if they have to do treatments,
02:10they move their ovaries up underneath their ribs.
02:13After going through so much, Brooke now has to face a major surgery
02:17in order to be able to have children.
02:23He says, when do you want to do the surgery?
02:25And I said, you can do it tonight if you want to.
02:27I was motivated.
02:28You know, I wanted it.
02:29I wanted the baby.
02:30And he says, actually, I have an opening for tomorrow,
02:33but I'm not going to have time to verify your insurance
02:35and you may have to pay for it all.
02:37So I looked at my husband and he looked at me and I said, book it.
02:41I'll take it.
02:42So we went home an hour and a half and in the morning drove back an hour and a half.
02:45We had surgery.
02:46Nobody knew what they were doing.
02:48It was great.
02:48He took my ovaries, stretched out my artery that was connected to them
02:53and sewed them down to my pelvis.
02:56Within two weeks, we started another round of IVF.
03:00Worked out wonderful.
03:01We have twins from it.
03:02But not long after that, I started having problems walking and moving and it was bad.
03:07So I call these doctors back and I'm like, hey, something's wrong.
03:10Like, y'all got to fix this.
03:11I can't take it anymore.
03:12Brooke thought that she would be finally able to relax after having kids.
03:16But it was discovered she had another serious health issue to deal with.
03:21He doesn't want to change it.
03:23He doesn't want to do a surgery.
03:24And I threw a fit and got him to finally go in and do an exploratory surgery.
03:29I begged him to take my ovaries out.
03:30So we go back down there.
03:32We did the exploratory surgery.
03:33I wake up and they said, your ovaries were sewn to the ligaments in your hips.
03:38And that's why it hurt so bad to walk and move and sit up.
03:41And I said, oh, thank God.
03:42Did you just cut them loose and let them float back up to where they're supposed to be?
03:46Or did he take them out?
03:47And they're like, oh, no, he sewed them back down.
03:50That's not what we agreed on.
03:52That was not the agreement.
03:53So it took me a year and a whole other doctor to get them removed.
03:57And now I'm in surgical menopause, which is absolute hell.
03:59So some people say that you won't feel it.
04:02It can be like a day or two after your surgery.
04:05I felt it within maybe three to four hours.
04:09Your gynecologist, whoever does your surgery, he's not going to help you with your hormones.
04:14They're not.
04:14They just don't do it.
04:15Insurance doesn't pay for them.
04:16So it's not a concern.
04:19Brooke was able to face a huge challenge during surrogacy.
04:22But she wanted to make people aware of what surgical menopause is really like.
04:26So I did the hormone cream, the estrogen cream.
04:31I think I used it every day.
04:33And then I did progesterone pills at night.
04:36I probably did that for maybe a year or so.
04:40And I was still really struggling.
04:42The rage I felt was unworldly.
04:47It was the worst thing I've ever dealt with.
04:49It was like I was two people.
04:51Part of me is just raging and going after people.
04:55And the regular part of me is just sitting there like, why are you doing this?
05:00Like, this is not normal.
05:01But you can't stop it.
05:02Like, it's just uncontrollable.
05:04It's terrible.
05:06So at this point, I was like, my husband's going to leave me if I don't do something else.
05:10So I went to my doctor, my other doctor that I see that also does that.
05:15I do the testosterone, estrogen pellets.
05:17They are wonderful.
05:18They have saved my life.
05:19They make me a better person, a decent person.
05:23And then I take progesterone pills at night that help you sleep.
05:26Oh my gosh, best sleep of your life.
05:28So if you are fixing to go into surgical menopause or have a hysterectomy,
05:32I highly suggest getting set up with a functional doctor to go over what you need
05:36so you can immediately go into that.
05:39After sharing her experience, Brooke became very divisive within religious groups
05:43and she wanted to address all of the hate that she was getting from them.
05:48But this is for the people that are using the Christian faith to tell me that I'm wrong
05:56and that I win against God's will.
05:58First off, you do realize that you are contributing to the detriment of our religion
06:05because I'm devout.
06:07I'm faithful to God and y'all are embarrassing me.
06:11I've had these things said to me for so long that it doesn't quite affect me
06:17like it would somebody else that's just starting out.
06:20Now it hurts and it stains, but is that what you want?
06:25And the next thing is for everyone, for everyone saying God did not plan
06:34or this was not his will for me to have children,
06:36I want to suggest a book that you should read.
06:40The book is called Job and it's in the Bible.
06:43Check it out if you got an opinion on this and then let me know.
06:47And for all of y'all that have said, you know, it's against God's will
06:52because the whole video is kind of directed towards you.
06:56It's going to be real awkward if you are able to slide under them gates of heaven
07:02even though you've said this stuff and then you run into him.
07:05He's probably going to want to have a talk with you.
07:08Brooke has gone through a lot and has gone above and beyond
07:10to make sure she was able to have kids.
07:12The comment section was very supportive of Brooke and her journey.
07:17A lot of people also thanked her for sharing her story
07:20as it helped them with their own journey.
07:23One comment said,
07:25I'm so thankful you got your babies.
07:27You have an angel friend.
07:29Surgical menopause here too.
07:32Another comment said,
07:33My 15 year old daughter just found out she has no uterus and is devastated.
07:38This gives me hope.
07:39So thank you for sharing.
07:41We wish Brooke and her family all the best in the future.
