00:00Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are forging on without an audience.
00:05Sources say that both shows, which are scheduled to tape to mid-April, are taking
00:09extra precautions due to the growing concern over coronavirus and will go on without
00:13a live studio audience. The decision to forego a live audience was reportedly done
00:18as a precaution for Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, who is currently battling stage 4
00:22pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment and chemotherapy.
00:26The average audience member for both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! is over 60 years old
00:30and a study cited by the CDC notes that those above 60 are at a higher risk of getting
00:35ill from the virus. The CDC recommends that older adults and people who have serious
00:39chronic medical conditions avoid crowds and stay home as much as possible during this
00:44outbreak period. Concerns also arose because tickets to boat shows are frequently handed
00:49out as prize packages for audience members flying in from out of state. Several states,
00:53including California and New York, have declared a state of emergency due to the virus.
00:58Additional events have been canceled or postponed, such as South by Southwest and the
01:02Game Developers Conference, while some films are pushing release dates including the 25th
01:06James Bond film, No Time to Die, which has been delayed until November.
