00:00President Donald Trump has responded to claims made by former White House aide
00:03Omarosa Manigault Newman that she had heard audio recordings of him saying the n-word.
00:08The commander-in-chief took to Twitter on Monday to deny the existence of any such
00:12tapes, writing,
00:30Omarosa had zero credibility with the media. They didn't want interviews when she worked
00:36in the White House. Now that she says bad about me, they will talk to her. Fake news.
00:40Mark Burnett was a producer of The Apprentice, the NBC reality series that both Trump and
00:45Manigault Newman starred on, and is a friend of the president. However, he made it clear
00:49in 2016 that he was not pro-Trump.
00:51I am not now and have never been a supporter of Donald Trump's candidacy, Burnett said.
00:55I am not pro-Trump. Further, my wife and I reject the hatred, division and misogyny
01:01that has been a very unfortunate part of his campaign. Despite Trump's insistence that he
01:05has never used the offensive term, the rumors of the audio tapes has persisted for the
01:09past year and a half, with actor Tom Arnold claiming he is in possession of them.
01:13Following Trump's tweets on Monday night, Arnold sent a few tweets of his own saying,
01:16Seven Mark Burnett Apprentice employees gave statements about Donald Trump saying
01:21multiple N-words on the set of The Apprentice NBC and 100 other horrible things.
01:26I spoke to two executive producers and Mark Burnett in person. They all said,
01:30Trump's a liar and there is Trump tapes.
01:32Surely thereafter, the White House released a lengthy statement about the alleged tape.
01:36Lynn Patton, a senior official in the Trump administration, said in a statement,
01:40On December 12, 2017, at approximately 11.30 p.m. EST, a date I now know to be the evening
01:46Omarosa was relieved of her official duties by General Kelly, I received a telephone call
01:50from her informing me that she had personally heard a second-hand recording of President
01:54Trump using the N-word in a derogatory fashion. She proceeded to tell me the full name
01:58of the individual who played the second-hand tape for her, from whom the primary audio tape
02:02had originated, as well as the specific context of the president's usage of this term and to whom
02:07the derogatory term was allegedly directed. The individual in question was Apprentice
02:11producer Bill Pruitt, who Patton referred to as a mutual friend.
02:15I just spoke to Bill Pruitt tonight before releasing the statement, Patton continued.
02:18He confirmed to me that he does not have an audio tape of President Trump using the N-word
02:23and has never had an audio tape of President Trump using the N-word, period.
02:27Patton then noted,
02:28Based upon her conflicting accounts and the newfound information revealed in my statement,
02:33it should be abundantly clear to everyone that not only is her book
02:37a complete work of fiction, but that the existence of this elusive N-word tape is a figment
02:42of her imagination and merely a destructive tool of manipulation applied only when it best
02:47serves her interests. Meanwhile, the president continued his Twitter rant on Tuesday,
02:51posting a barrage of insults aimed at Manigault Newman, who was currently on a press tour
02:55promoting her memoir, Unhinged.
02:57When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break and give her a job at the White House,
03:01I guess it just didn't work out, Trump tweeted. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog.
03:06Manigault Newman's memoir, which officially drops Tuesday, is said to paint a damning picture of Trump,
03:11including her claim that he used racial slurs on the set of his reality show, The Apprentice.
03:15Trump has previously responded to such claims by calling his former co-star and colleague
03:20wacky and not smart. During one of her appearances on NBC, Manigault Newman responded to the
03:25president's slew of insults by saying,
03:27I think it's sad that with all the things that's going on in the country that he would take time
03:31out to insult me and to insult my intelligence. She added,
03:35This is his pattern with African Americans.
