R Kelly To Expose Accusers Over Lifetime Series ’Surviving R. Kelly’ | Hollywoodlife
Transcript
00:00R. Kelly threatens to expose all of his accusers. Chance the Rapper responds to the backlash
00:08following his role in Surviving R. Kelly. Plus, Questlove explains why he declined to be in the
00:13series. Hey guys, it's Ali for Hollywood Life, and Lifetime's documentary Surviving R. Kelly
00:21has prompted a lot of intense discussions on and offline, and R. Kelly isn't the only one in the
00:27spotlight because of it. Users on social media began to drag Kendrick Lamar for his actions last
00:33year during the hashtag Mute R. Kelly campaign. In May 2018, Kendrick expressed his frustration with
00:40Spotify's hate content policy, a policy that would root out hate speech and punish artists for
00:45misconduct. At that time, two artists that were the target of that policy were R. Kelly and XXXTentacion.
00:52Kendrick apparently called Spotify's CEO and threatened to pull his music from the platform,
00:57and many users are looking back and slamming him for the move. One user, however, offered a
01:02different perspective, saying Kendrick might have made the call because he was upset with the overall
01:07theme of censorship of music and how a lot of the artists being targeted were black. Kendrick Lamar
01:12has not yet responded as of this recording. Chance the Rapper, however, has reacted because he too
01:18has been the subject of criticism following the release of R. Kelly's documentary. During one of the
01:23episodes, Chance is shown saying, I didn't value the accuser's stories because they were black women.
01:28Chance the Rapper took to Twitter to say the quote was taken out of context, but the truth is any of
01:33us who ever ignored the R. Kelly stories or ever believed he was being set up or attacked by the
01:38system, as black men often are, were doing so at the detriment of black women and girls. I apologize
01:44to all of his survivors for working with him and for taking this long to speak out. Chance also
01:50offered the entire clip so that fans could hear more context for the statement that actually made
01:55it into the doc's final cut. Artists like Questlove, Jay-Z, and more declined being a part of the
02:00documentary with Quest saying, I always thought Kels was trash. My reason for declining the R. Kelly doc
02:06is I didn't want to be in the good times portion of the doc. He goes on to say, I do not nor have I
02:11ever stand him. But okay, TMZ reports R. Kelly is vowing to expose his accusers for what he claims are
02:18lies being told in Lifetime's doc. Sources tell the site that Kelly will launch a site called
02:23survivinglies.com that will attempt to reveal the real motivations of his accusers. At the time of
02:31this recording, the site is not live, but there is a Facebook page for it. So far, the page has made
02:36posts about Asante McGee that include a video where allegedly Asante's daughter debunks her mother's
02:42claims of abuse. And it is only audio and the identities of the voices have not yet been
02:47verified. Another post lists Asante's previous arrests and claims that she's working with the
02:52father of another alleged victim, Jocelyn Savage, to extort R. Kelly. But all right, guys, hit the
02:58sub, like, and bell button and stick with us for all the latest developments in this story with R. Kelly
03:02because it seems like it's far from over.
