The Walt Disney Co.’s Disney+ streaming service appeared to be hit by technical difficulties on its launch day, Tuesday.
Transcript
00:00Disney's highly publicized new streaming service Disney Plus was hit with massive
00:04tech issues for its launch day. A number of would-be Disney Plus users started
00:09venting on social media on Tuesday morning, saying they were having issues
00:13accessing the service or some of its features around 7 a.m. New York time.
00:17According to downdetector.com, which showed problems in the U.S., parts of
00:21Canada and the Netherlands, reported that there were 6,900 reports of issues with
00:25the service around 7.30 a.m. Eastern Time and slightly more than 7,000 later before
00:30problem reports dropped off. People mentioned a number of problems with the service that
00:35included signing up, logging in and the streaming itself. So, like, everything.
00:39Specifically, according to some U.S. users, once customers paid for the streamer on their
00:43computer, it wouldn't load on smart TVs or on the PlayStation app and instead an error icon
00:49would appear each time, showing Mickey Mouse and his dog Pluto in space outfits that would
00:53then force users to exit the service. Okay, not a hot start, but I mean, how can you be
00:58mad when you're staring at Mickey and Pluto?
01:00Everything's a-okay!
01:04See, everything's gonna be a-okay. I know, it's frustrating, but Disney did address the
01:09issue head-on in a statement, saying,
01:11"...the consumer demand for Disney Plus has exceeded our high expectations. We are working
01:15to quickly resolve the current user issue. We appreciate your patience."
01:19The company confirmed earlier on Tuesday that the streamer, with nearly 500
01:23films and 7,500 TV episodes, including original programming and content from Walt Disney
01:29Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios and Pixar, just to name a few to choose
01:35from, launched as planned in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands. Disney Plus is set to
01:40launch in Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rico on November 19th, with a wider launch in
01:45markets across Western Europe on March 31st, 2020. For more updates to this story, head to
