Courtney B. Vance shares his concerns over A.I. and gushes over his wife Angela Bassett at the NAACP Image Awards, calling her "the greatest actress of our generation."

00:00What does it mean to be here today at the 55th Annual NAACP?

00:04Well, it means, you know, for our company, Bass Advanced Productions,

00:08and our first foray out with Heist 88 and our Rider 1 award.

00:14So it means everything.

00:16It means as we come on the heels of the strike we just came off of

00:20and the pandemic we just came out of,

00:22and the fact that we're here without masks on

00:24and that we're here standing next to Idris and his wife.

00:28But I'm just excited.

00:30I'm excited to see everyone here and see all the black excellence

00:34and everyone dressed wonderfully without masks.

00:37It's very exciting.

00:38And now you mentioned the strike that we just came up out of.

00:41Do you have any concerns about AI

00:44and how it is literally kind of taking over the creative space?

00:48Yes, I do have concerns about it,

00:50and we all should have concerns about it

00:52because we don't really know where it's going to go.

00:55We just have to be negotiating so that when it does grow, we can grow with it.

01:01That's the only thing we can do.

01:02Just like no one could have anticipated that our phones are running the world now.

01:09So everyone is focused through, and everything is focused through our phones.

01:12So that's the same thing with AI.

01:15We've got to be respectful,

01:17and nobody's going to make all the money off of it.

01:20There's enough to share.

01:22So as long as we have that attitude, we'll be fine.

01:26And you are not only an actor and a businessman,

01:29but you are also a husband,

01:33and you are very supportive of Miss Angela.

01:35So how exactly do you balance showing up for her the way that you do,

01:39the way that we love that you do,

01:41and also be a leading man in your own life?

01:43I'm her biggest fan.

01:44So I'm as much of a fan as you are of her.

01:50I am the same.

01:51She's, as far as I'm concerned,

01:53one of the greatest actresses of our generation,

01:56so if not the greatest.

01:58So there's no artifice there.

02:05And I'm continually surprised by how absolutely amazing she is.

02:12So I'm, you know, and I film it so she can see it.

02:15Because, you know, all these people filming around her,

02:18she never sees that.

02:19So she can hear her speeches and see her speeches.

02:25I love that.

02:26And then the honorees tonight.

02:27So we have New Edition.

02:29We have Frankie Beverly and Usher.

02:31What does it mean for them to be honored today?

02:33Oh, well, you know, they've paid the dues and paid the way.

02:38So it's nice to, we have to give people their flowers

02:42while they're here to receive them.

02:44So that's what we're doing.

02:45I'm excited.
