00:00Looking back I also realized that I was losing my sense of taste and smell which I didn't realize
00:05it at the time. Rita Wilson is opening up about her recovery from COVID-19 and the side effects
00:11of using chloroquine. Wilson spoke to CBS This Morning host Gail King on Tuesday's edition of
00:15The Morning Show speaking about her and husband Tom Hanks' experience with the virus and how she's
00:20trying to help in the fight against the global pandemic. First, Wilson shared her symptoms after
00:24coming down with the disease. I felt extremely achy, uncomfortable, didn't want to be touched
00:31and then the fever started. Wilson explained that her fever reached 102 degrees by day nine
00:36and had lost her sense of taste and smell. However, Hanks, she said, didn't have as high of a fever
00:41and didn't lose his sense of taste and smell. Wilson added that she was given the controversial
00:46drug chloroquine which has been praised by President Trump and others as a somewhat
00:50effective treatment against the virus but medical experts have cautioned that more research still
00:55needs to be done. Wilson said she was not sure if it worked or if it was just time for her fever to
00:59break as that's what happened when she was given the drug. Still, she suffered extreme side effects
01:03including being completely nauseous and having vertigo and her muscles becoming very weak.
01:08I think people have to be very considerate about that drug. We don't really know if it's helpful in
01:15this case. As for how she and Hanks contracted the virus, Wilson said they were told it was
01:20from somebody that they were both exposed to at the same time but they don't know where or when
01:24that happened. But all I can say is all of our close contacts, family, on our work team,
01:31no one has tested positive. Wilson said she and Hanks were told that they are now immune
01:35and have donated blood as part of a study to see if their antibodies can be helpful in developing a
01:39vaccine. Wilson also opened up about the video she made of her rapping Naughty by Nature's Hip Hop Hooray
01:45which became popular online explaining that she once had to learn it for a role in the movie Boy
01:49Genius and wanted to try performing it as a brain exercise.
01:53I thought, well maybe if I just post this it could be something fun and show people that
01:58we're okay. After her interview with King, the CBS anchor noted that Wilson reassured her
02:02that she and Hanks feel completely normal now. For more on this story, head to THR.com.
