Bob Iger is pushing back on the idea that there's superhero fatigue. The Disney CEO was interviewed at a Morgan Stanley conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, where he was pressed about what he is doing to turn the film business around. The executive noted that they're doing a lot and even quietly cancelled certain projects. "...You got to make those tough calls. We've actually made those tough calls. We've not been that public about it, but we've killed a few projects already that we just didn't feel were strong enough."

00:17You gotta make those tough calls. We've actually made those tough calls.
00:20We've not been that public about it, but we've killed a few projects already
00:24that we just didn't feel were strong enough.
00:26Iger also pushed back on the idea of superhero or franchise fatigue,
00:30saying that it was not an accident that Marvel's first 33 films
00:33generated just under $30 billion at the box office.
00:37Focus is really important. We reduce the output of Marvel,
00:40both the number of films they make and the number of TV shows,
00:43and that really becomes critical. But I feel good about the team.
00:46I feel good about the IP we're making.
00:47He added, not only do you look at the films you're making,
00:50you look at every part of that process.
00:52Who the directors are, who's being cast, reading scripts.
00:54I personally watch films three to five times with the team and just create a culture of
00:59excellence and respect, which is really important with the creative community.
01:03On a related note, Iger also praised certain projects on Disney's 2024 film slate,
01:07including the upcoming Inside Out and Moana sequels,
01:10and also the big Marvel release of the year, Deadpool and Wolverine,
01:13which Iger predicted will be one of the more successful Marvel movies we've had in a long time.
