00:00Before we talk about this next story, I don't want to alarm you, but the internet is mad about
00:03something. Stephen Colbert says the online uproar over Sidney Sweeney's American Eagle campaign
00:10might be a bit of an overreaction, and some of his fans aren't happy about it. The Late Show
00:14host weighed in on the controversy over the Euphoria Stars ad, which features a play on
00:19the word jeans. Jeans are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair
00:25color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue. Sidney Sweeney, Casper Keynes. After
00:35showing the ad to his audience, Colbert said this. And just like Sidney Sweeney, I also carry the gene
00:41for sexy, commercial, scratchy voice. He then detailed how the ad has been called out online
00:47for being akin to Nazi-like pro-eugenics propaganda, given Sweeney's looks. That might be a bit of an
00:54overreaction. Although Hitler did briefly model for mine comfort fit jeans. Whatever the truth.
01:02Some of Colbert's fans pushed back on Instagram, writing messages like,
01:06is it overreaction to observe and point out propaganda in times like these? Stephen, I love
01:11you, bud, but you have to admit that at the very least, it's a weird and icky way to go about selling
01:16jeans, especially in the current political climate. And I don't think it's an overreaction. They knew
01:22exactly what they were doing when they made the commercial. So the blue-eyed blonde has the best
01:26jeans? For more on this story, go to THR.com. This is the Hollywood Reporter News.
