00:00A member of President Trump's own party, Senator Ron Johnson, is throwing a wrench into the
00:05president's plans to send millions of Americans $2,000 tariff dividend checks next year.
00:10Here he is on Fox Business this week.
00:13We can't afford it. I wish you're in a position to return the American public their money,
00:17but we're not. Again, we'll have at least a $2 trillion deficit this year.
00:21Approval to send the checks would, in fact, need to come from Congress. So
00:25Johnson's opposition is not a good sign for those hoping for a boost to their bank account from
00:29tariff gains. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says that the president's tariffs brought in
00:34$90 billion between their implementation and the end of September, sending $2,000 to individuals
00:41earning under $100K a year, for example, would cost $300 billion, according to the Tax Foundation.
