With Linda Hamilton and producer James Cameron returning to the robopocalypse, critics are ready to look to the future once again.

00:09The reviews are in for Terminator Dark Fate

00:11and the critics are ready to believe in a new future

00:13for the apocalyptic robot franchise.

00:15In the new installment, Sarah Connor,

00:16played by Linda Hamilton and hybrid cyborg human Grace,

00:20played by Mackenzie Davis, worked to protect

00:22a young woman named Dani, played by Natalia Reyes,

00:25from a modified liquid Terminator from the future.

00:28The Hollywood Reporter's John DeVore says

00:29that despite having excellent CGI and being action-packed,

00:33he found Dark Fate to have less humor than the last one

00:36and leave the audience distracted from the staleness

00:38of the storyline by sequences that strain awfully hard to dazzle.

00:42Overall, he thinks the movie's worthy action scenes

00:44can't prevent the new Terminator installment

00:46from getting rusty.

00:47Similarly, Karen Haan of Polygon notes,

00:49the fun parts of Terminator Dark Fate

00:51can't mask the fact that the episodic script drags,

00:54adding that the presence of Hamilton

00:56and Arnold Schwarzenegger's characters

00:57unintentionally undercut the new characters

01:00by offering viewers more easily identifiable focal points.

01:03She also writes, though the film leaves the door open

01:05for more Terminator shenanigans,

01:06it hopefully serves as a definitive end.

01:08Others disagree, however.

01:17IGN's Jim Vesvoda writes,

01:19Dark Fate is a big gamble, but it's a wise one

01:22that will hopefully give this venerable but exhausted franchise

01:24a new lease on life.

01:25And Matt Singer of Screen Crush was equally convinced,

01:28writing,

01:28Overall, critics seem cautiously excited about Terminator Dark Fate,

01:36which busts into theaters on November 1st.
