After Deadly Israeli Strike, Beirut Grieves ‘Chief of Staff’ Haytham Al-Tabtabai | APT

Hundreds of Lebanese mourners gathered in Beirut on Monday following an Israeli airstrike that killed senior Hezbollah commander Haytham Ali Al-Tabtabai — widely known as the group’s “chief of staff” — along with four others.

The strike hit Haret Hreik, a densely populated district in Beirut’s southern suburbs, reducing residential blocks to rubble and injuring at least 28 people. Residents described the blast as sudden, powerful, and without warning, leaving families terrified and displaced.
The attack has deepened public fear as Israeli strikes on Lebanon have increased in recent months, despite a ceasefire declared in November 2024 after more than a year of cross-border conflict. Demonstrators also took to the streets, protesting continued Israeli bombardment and the occupation of southern Lebanese territory.
Locals say they no longer feel safe in their own homes, as the region braces for further escalation.
