Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday (Nov 26) said he had accepted the resignation of his senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it will conduct investigations into allegations that a businessman giving bribes to Shamsul Iskandar.

00:12Anwar thanked Syamsul Iskandar for his service,
00:15saying that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is free to conduct immediate investigation
00:19without any external interference with regards to the allegations that have arisen.
00:24He said the government remains steadfast in the principles of transparency and integrity.
00:30He had earlier this month said that he had reprimanded his political secretary over the letter
00:34which was issued last year.
00:44On Tuesday, Syamsul Iskandar announced his resignation,
00:48saying that he understood that there were attempts to attack him over the issuance
00:52of a letter of support for contractors in a hospital project,
00:55which could tarnish the image of the government.
00:57He said he would defend himself against the attacks.
01:01Meanwhile, M.A.C.C. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azambaki said
01:05they will immediately investigate allegations that a businessman had given bribes to Syamsul Iskandar.
01:11Azam said the M.A.C.C. will summon both the individuals in the near future
