00:00OpenAI gives teachers their own ChatGPT.
00:04OpenAI announced ChatGPT for teachers, a suite to help educators wrangle lesson planning,
00:10grading, and whatever else is currently eating up their evenings.
00:15Teachers finally get an AI sidekick to counter the AI students already secretly use.
00:21Balance restored, maybe.
00:23ChatGPT for teachers will help K-12 educators build class materials and work safely with
00:29student data, with full support for Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act rules.
00:36It'll be free through June 2027, the exact moment OpenAI may need to start asking schools
00:42for money after they've become thoroughly hooked.
00:45Think of it like the world's most academically wholesome free trial.
00:49Colleges aren't left out.
00:51OpenAI already has a version for higher ed called ChatGPT, EDU, which many universities
00:58are weaving into campus life, because nothing says the future like freshmen arguing whether
01:03their resident assistant used AI to write the dorm policies.
01:08OpenAI isn't the only tech giant planting an AI flag in America's classrooms, as schools
01:15become a battleground to nestle chatbots into official workflows.
01:18Google is handing out Gemini AI through the next academic year, and XAI offered free Grok
01:25during exam season, a chatbot that also tries to be funny.
01:29All this raises the looming question, is any of this actually helping students learn?
01:35Teachers are already struggling to get kids to engage with schoolwork, especially in math,
01:41math, where the US has slipped so far that UC San Diego had to create a remedial course for incoming
01:47students who couldn't handle middle school level material. Add large language models into the mix,
01:54and some students are now skipping the learn things step entirely. Studies show that overusing
02:00AI can weaken critical thinking and cause people to offload harder tasks to the machine,
02:06making them worse at doing the work themselves.
02:11Yeah.
