00:00Miami Heat, they win last night, 106-102 over the Dallas Mavericks.
00:08Squeaky cheeks.
00:09Squeaky cheeks.
00:10When Jaime turned that ball over, I was like, no.
00:13I mean, was that the most nonchalant throw in?
00:18No, listen.
00:19Well, I think that's, listen, that's the one thing.
00:21Like, you don't have Jovich.
00:21That's his thing, 6'10", passing the ball.
00:24And they're doing the whole offense for these.
00:25Let's get Jaime in there.
00:27Look, stop taking Kalel Ware off the floor.
00:29Let's not get cutespo, okay?
00:31You put them out there nonstop.
00:33That's how this needs to go.
00:34Yeah.
00:35But they end up getting the win.
00:37And five in a row, 12-6, third in the East.
00:42Toronto is above them.
00:44And then Detroit's won 13 in a row.
00:46They tied a franchise record yesterday.
00:48Very impressive season by them.
00:51But Eric's Bolger had this, like, look during the pregame, right?
00:58And he was asked about the new offense, right?
01:00It's been the very chic thing.
01:01We're all talking about the new offense, right?
01:03And I got to tell you, I saw this Noah LaRoche before the game.
01:07He's the whiz kid from Memphis that we stole.
01:11And I was like...
01:12That Ja doesn't like?
01:13That Ja didn't like the style of the offense.
01:15That's correct.
01:16Yeah.
01:17And I just wanted...
01:17Like, I didn't think it was appropriate, but I was thinking about if I should just go up there
01:20and shake his hand.
01:21But I didn't do it.
01:22I didn't think it was professional, J. Fig.
01:24That's why I didn't go up to him.
01:25But I wanted to go up to...
01:26Because you're a professional.
01:26Yeah, I'm a professional.
01:27And I just wanted to go up to Noah.
01:29And I'd be like, you know, like, thank you.
01:32Thank you for bringing this to Eric Spolstra.
01:34Because he was asked about this last night.
01:36So, I believe the great Chuck Cooperstein, voice of the Dallas Mavericks, asked this question.
01:41I think it was him.
01:43And he was asking, he was like, you know, hey, Spoh, you know, for those who haven't been around,
01:46like, what's the deal with this new offense?
01:48Like, where'd it come from?
01:50And I want you to look at Eric Spolstra's eyes when he talks about this.
01:54Because the pain and shame that he goes back to when he's asked about this.
02:00Like, you could just tell how much last year impacted him and the way that it ended.
02:07And just take a little look, you want to listen.
02:11For our radio audience, like, you're going to...
02:13Like, when he starts talking about them getting bounced,
02:17it's like Eric Spolstra witnessed a crime that he's flashing back to.
02:21That's, like, that's the look you should imagine on his face when he's describing this.
02:26But it was, like, such a, it was such a vulnerable moment from Spoh
02:30on where he was at at the end of last year when they got smoked.
02:34Eric, for those who have not seen you guys a whole lot this year,
02:39what was the moment or is there an epiphany that, you know,
02:45last year, 27th in pace, this year, your first, like, you know,
02:49historically, like the fastest pace in 44 years.
02:51What brought you to that moment where you said, we got to change?
02:56Yeah, I mean, what I've told everybody in this room several times,
03:02you know, we were absolutely outclassed and embarrassed
03:05in a really bad way in the playoffs.
03:08Last time we walked off this floor, we got beat by 55.
03:13It was almost like a misprint.
03:15It's the most embarrassing thing I've ever been a part of.
03:17The locker room felt the same way, and we had plenty of time to reevaluate things during the offseason.
03:27We were done, and it wasn't even May when we were done.
03:32So we had plenty of time to work on things, and then we just wanted to be open-minded.
03:40You know, the first day of camp, I said I just wanted to embrace, you know, the unknown.
03:47And I viewed that as a good thing.
03:50You know, there's some possibilities here,
03:52but I also wanted for there to be and continue to be surprises as the season goes along.
04:01There you go.
04:02Did you not see, like, the look in his face?
04:04No, this is when you know, when he does this.
04:10He does the hands.
04:11The hands drop.
04:13He did the hands drop.
04:14It was like crazy.
04:15Like, he was like this, full of energy, and then he had to talk about last year.
04:20That was, like, PTSD.
04:22That was.
04:22That was, like, he was not okay.
04:25His eyes were just, like.
04:26I would imagine that, yes, losing by 55,
04:36it makes you do some self-evaluations.
04:40You know what I mean?
04:41And it makes you want to try to figure some things out.
04:46And I think that's what happened.
04:49That's crazy.
04:50Yep.
04:50But, like, it's either, like, obvious.
04:52It's obvious that they were embarrassed.
04:53He said that they were humbled.
04:54But it wasn't even the words.
04:56It was.
04:57Do you see the way those guys walked off the floor?
04:58Oh, yeah.
04:59It was embarrassing.
04:59No, it was a humiliating.
05:00It was a humiliating effort.
05:02But I think the thing that is, like.
05:03What would you expect?
05:04You won 37 games last year.
05:06Like, I'm not trying to, like, say they shouldn't be embarrassed.
05:12But I'm saying, based on the way that season went,
05:15for both of those two teams,
05:18you had to know at some point this was going to get ugly.
05:21You're not going to just all of a sudden turn it around.
05:24I think here's the thing that's embarrassing about it, though,
05:26is, like, if Cleveland did that and then, like,
05:28they went to the NBA Finals, it's one thing.
05:30You can live with that.
05:30Like, they.
05:31If you did that to the Oklahoma City Thunder,
05:33I think I could live with it a little more.
05:34The fact that, like, they're not a playoff juggernaut.
05:37You know?
05:37They were a good regular season team, for sure.
05:39They were in the heat a few years ago
05:40when they were number one in the conference.
05:43Yeah, I don't know.
05:44But, like, it was just one of those things, like,
05:46that's the team?
05:47That was the biggest margin of defeat of all time?
05:50It's such a bad scarlet letter for this coach,
05:52who's, I think it was the third,
05:55maybe the third time he's ever been swept?
05:58Ever?
05:58Right.
05:59And.
06:00That wasn't even swept.
06:01Ew, it's double swept.
06:02They didn't even.
06:04But you could just see the.
06:05They just scooped you up like a dead frog in the driveway.
06:09Roadkill.
06:09Yeah.
06:10And you could just, like, he just, you could just tell.
06:13Do you feel like he looked back when he got to his office?
06:16And because he, like, you could see when he mentions May.
06:18And you could just see he probably looked at his office on his calendar
06:21and it just said April.
06:23It's not even May.
06:25Right.
06:25What am I going to do with all this time?
06:27Right.
06:27I know what I'm going to do.
06:29I'm going to reinvent offense, dude.
06:32Well, you kind of have no choice because that's the way the league is going.
06:37Yeah, but nobody.
06:37Like, it's not.
06:38It's not like this pace, dude.
06:39No, I get it.
06:40I get it.
06:41But keep in mind, the crazy thing about this is you've always had these guys.
06:49You have one guy who wouldn't cooperate.
06:54Jimmy wasn't a runner.
06:55Right.
06:55But you look at all the other guys.
06:58You ever see when Jimmy's on the bench, they always try to pick it up?
07:05Yeah.
07:06So, maybe it was something that he was probably looking at before he actually did it.
07:14And then the way the season went and the way your roster changed.
07:20Their offense has been statistically terrible.
07:22They had to change something.
07:23But I think the thing that is with Eric Spolstra, because I think people were wondering, is
07:26like, hey, was he too set in his ways?
07:29And I do think that you're seeing a guy.
07:31This guy has obviously been a great coach his entire career.
07:33Well, that's what great coaches adjust.
07:35And I think that that's been the thing.
07:36It's like, oh, all right.
07:37You're about to see my next move.
07:39Remember, like, position list back with the big three.
07:41Oh, my beer.
07:42You know, making a bunch of G-leaguers 500.
07:46This is going to be my great symphony right here.
07:47No, I got you.
07:48And so, I think that's the cool thing.
07:49But, man, I felt so bad.
07:51When I saw that look in the pregame from him, I'm like, oh, my God.
07:55He still feels it.
07:56You know, we were absolutely outclassed and embarrassed in a really bad way in the playoffs.
08:04Last time we walked off this floor, we got beat by 55.
08:09It was almost like a misprint.
08:11It's the most embarrassing thing I've ever been a part of.
08:15The locker room felt the same way, and we had plenty of time to reevaluate things during the offseason.
08:23We were done, and it wasn't even May.
08:26That's where it got done.
08:30So, we had plenty of time to work on things.
08:34It was great.
08:35He was, like, looking into a dark hole in that moment.
08:38We were done.
08:40I'm like, when have I not coached basketball in May?
08:46Oh, man.
08:47It catches you.
08:47I'm telling you, the one thing that is literally, like, the worst part of the season.
08:59Like, you get into a rhythm, right?
09:01Where this is what you're doing.
09:02This is what you're doing.
09:03You get to the playoffs.
09:05Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
09:06And then it ends.
09:09And, like, when it ends and you go to the locker room, you don't know what to do.
09:15Like, okay, what are we doing tomorrow, right?
09:19What do we?
09:20Like, it's, I mean, brutal.
09:25I know that feeling.
09:26Now, I can honestly say that at no point in time did I get mollywhopped.
09:35Never felt like you had to reinvent yourself.
09:37The only time I did was when we played.
09:41And so, after we lost in 98, you know, the 15-1 team, the very next year we won division again.
09:50We went to, but we had to go to the Rams and play.
09:58And we were up, like, 27-20 at halftime, right?
10:07We lost 49-27.
10:11And we didn't know, like, they went on to win the Super Bowl, but that's how things change.
10:20So, you have to kind of change with it.
10:22Did you call Kurt Warner grocery boy before the game?
10:25Was that the year?
10:27No, that was Nick.
10:30Was that Kurt Warner's year?
10:33That might have been.
10:34It might have been.
