Director Nisha Ganatra chats with THR at the 'Freakier Friday' premiere and talks about how she built her "dream" cast for the movie. Plus, she shares her hopes that people will feel a lot of joy watching the sequel film.

00:00What does it feel like to have this huge premiere today?

00:02I mean, all of Hollywood Boulevard is shut down.

00:04All of Hollywood Boulevard is shut down.

00:06It's insane.

00:07And we're standing on a purple carpet.

00:09And like, literally, Jamie Lee Curtis is right there.

00:11And Elaine Hendricks is right there.

00:13And Lindsay Lohan is right there.

00:14This is unbelievable.

00:16Like, this is amazing.

00:17All these brilliant artists.

00:19Yeah.

00:19I mean, so many people like Jamie Elaine came back for this movie.

00:23And I love how Elaine, you know, it's like a nod to Lindsay's past.

00:26When it came time to cast this movie,

00:28how did you go about getting all these people together?

00:30Oh, my God.

00:31I just made a fantasy dream list and then called everyone.

00:34And luckily, everyone loves Jamie and Lindsay so much that everyone said yes.

00:38But we just had so much joy.

00:40Like, just shooting the movie was so joyful.

00:43And I'm just so excited for audiences to see it.

00:45I'm like, everyone, we're going to laugh together.

00:48It's going to be so nice.

00:49I can't wait to see it either.

00:50What was the biggest challenge?

00:52I haven't seen it yet.

00:52I'm seeing it tonight.

00:53Oh, my God.

00:54I can't wait for you to see it.

00:55I just want people to feel joy and feel love and laughter.

00:59Like, we grew up on these movies where everyone laughed in movie theaters together.

01:03And I'm just so excited for that.

01:05Definitely.

01:06And, I mean, the original film is so beloved.

01:08So how did you go about, you know, kind of adapting this, making this new movie?

01:13And also, yeah, what was the biggest challenge?

01:15I mean, I've been such a fan of the Freaky Friday franchise.

01:17I think we all grew up with them.

01:19So it was a big challenge to be respectful and pay homage to the original, but also make

01:24sure this movie stood alone as its own movie so that if you didn't know anything about Freaky

01:28Friday, it is a movie for you.

01:30But if you did know the other one, there are definitely Easter eggs and things that you

01:34will appreciate and things that will go a little deeper for you.

01:37But it really does stand alone as its own movie, too, which I'm really proud of.
