James Acaster dishes to THR on the 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' red carpet what it was like joining the iconic franchise. Plus, he recalls the first time he's ever watched the original 'Ghostbusters.'
Transcript
00:00So you are one of the newest cast members in this film.
00:03What did it feel like to be joining such an iconic franchise like Ghostbusters?
00:07Yeah, it's just, I mean, it feels like too big to comprehend a lot of the time.
00:11You know, I've loved Ghostbusters since I can remember.
00:14Had the backpack, lunchbox, watched the cartoons all the time.
00:17So, like, it feels like, you know, you're stepping into something that's always been a part of your life.
00:22And that, maybe when I watch this, it will sink in a bit more.
00:26Do you remember the first time you watched the original Ghostbusters?
00:30Yeah, I think I was a teenager because I think I just, like, watched the cartoons as a kid
00:34and then discovered there was a film, you know, and watched that.
00:38And it was like the cartoon has suddenly come into the real world
00:41and I was watching it in live action and it was really exciting.
00:45What can you tell us about your character in this?
00:47His name's Lars Pinfield.
00:48He works in the lab, the Ghostbusters lab, a scientist and inventor.
00:52And maybe likes Ghostbusters more, he likes people, but has finally found the group that he belongs in as well.
00:59Did you take any inspiration from other films or characters in preparing for this role?
01:03Weirdly, there was like, you know, the director said to watch Egon in the original films.
01:09And so, like, I'll watch that.
01:10But, you know, you don't want to just try and do the exact thing
01:13because you're never going to do it, like, the same.
01:14You want to bring your own thing to it.
01:16So, yeah, I was just trying to be as serious as possible
01:20but, like, start with that character as, like, the springboard.
01:24So since this is Ghostbusters, I have to ask, what is your scariest ghost story, if you have any?
01:30I think when I was a kid, I thought that I could hear someone downstairs.
01:35And I walked across the landing and down onto the staircase and looked into the living room
01:40and there was a torch, like, kind of moving across the bookshelves
01:44and I shouted at my parents and they came rushing out and turned on all the lights
01:47and no one was there and no one was in the house, no one was anywhere.
01:51And that's the only time where I might have seen a torch ghost.
01:55Does it still scar you to this day?
01:57Still puzzles me.
01:58I mean, someone did point out to me that it might have been someone in my garden
02:02shining a torch through the window thinking about breaking in
02:04and then all the lights went on and they ran away.
02:07That might be what happened.
02:08So probably a ghost was better then?
02:10Yeah, I prefer to think it was a ghost.
