Ernie Hudson says they felt the absence of Harold Ramis when reuniting with the original 'Ghostbusters' cast but it was still a "spiritual moment." Plus, he tells THR on the 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' red carpet what it was like working with the younger cast.
00:00So I wanted to say congratulations. Your return was teased at the end of Afterlife.
00:04But of course now, what's it like being fully back again for this new Ghostbusters film?
00:09Yeah, it's great to bring the franchise back into full awareness of the public.
00:14The fans have been waiting for a long time.
00:16It's nice to not just be in the movie, but have a reason for being in the movie.
00:21I love the way that the studio and the creators have incorporated Winston.
00:26So, you know, he's done very well for himself.
00:30And, you know, now he sort of runs the franchise.
00:34And I love that. They've given him a lot of dimension.
00:38And I think the fans have been, you know, wanting that.
00:41And I'm very happy.
00:43I know being back on set must have felt like one big nostalgic ride.
00:47But was there any particular scene or day that made you especially emotional to be back?
00:52Well, I think for me, watching the young people who are really very, very talented and very, very good just take on this.
01:00And I know they are the future.
01:02You know, I mean, we might do whatever, but at some point you have to let it go.
01:07You know, it's a different audience than it was in 1984.
01:09But I'm just really happy that we can be there and support them.
01:14And it was very just kind of reassuring to see, you know, McKenna Grace and Logan and Celeste and just see them do what they do.
01:24So it's great. Yeah.
01:25Was there any advice that you gave them about being a part of the Ghostbusters family and the tremendous fandom surrounding it?
01:31Well, no, I find that people, young people don't want to hear my advice.
01:37I'm sure that's not true.
01:39No, no, I kind of hit it.
01:40You can't ever say.
01:42But, you know, they're pros and I learned from watching them.
01:46So, you know, but we spent some time talking together and hopefully something gets passed along.
01:53But, no, I never offer advice.
01:55I can't even give my kids advice.
01:58But it's just, yeah, it's great being a part of the film.
02:01Listen, I'll take your advice any day.
02:03So anything you got, I will listen.
02:05Finally, I just wanted to say the ending of the last movie really got me in my feelings because it was all four Ghostbusters reunited.
02:13What was that like watching that back on the big screen and seeing Harold reunited with all of you guys?
02:18That was emotional.
02:19I mean, for me, when I first walked on the set, and I hadn't seen these guys in a long time, and they had put on their jumpsuits and I had my jumpsuit on, and it was kind of a spiritual moment.
02:30I mean, I'm just so thankful that we're still here because Harold isn't, and we all felt that absence.
02:38But Ivan Reitman was here at the time, and he's transitioned since.
02:42But, yeah, it's almost like something in your life that it's kind of there, and then all of a sudden it materializes and we're together.
02:52And it just was very, very special.
02:55This one, too, but that movie, especially sort of a reawakening, coming together, you know, the family, his family, discovering Ghostbusters along with, you know, the fans.
03:07And, yeah, that was very, very, very special.
