00:00When all this happened, it was the day before Christmas Eve.
00:17That day I was sick.
00:21I had a cold, so I didn't go to work.
00:30A pretty close neighbor, Jerry, came to the door, and Helen, Helen, come quick.
00:46And he said, Mary Lou and Dorothy both are missing.
00:53So, my son, I thought I'd walk over there with you.
01:07I had a jollo, a little smile, didn't hear not one peep out of nothing.
01:19I just found them upstairs.
01:25It was a shock.
01:28They were blood from the living room all the way to the basement floor.
01:35When my son got to the basement, he heard it least.
01:44Mom, don't come.
01:48Don't come.
01:49Don't come.
02:02Don't come.
02:37It was the 23rd of December, 1997.
02:48I worked as a detective in the Homicide Special Assignment Section.
02:56You know, you never know what you're in for when you get to work, so you hope it's slow because it's Christmas time.
03:04I was looking forward to spending Christmas with my family, you know, a ton of food, visiting, opening presents and things of that nature.
03:12But the call came in and we were dispatched out to Elm Street.
03:17Elm Street was a neighborhood that stood out by itself, like its own little peninsula.
03:29It wasn't a lot of crime or any action.
03:32As I got out the vehicle, you can see a guy standing in front of the house.
03:40He had a hook on one arm, and that was just really odd to see someone with a hook on their arm.
03:47And he said, his name was Jerry Drury.
03:54Wanting us to, you know, go in the house.
03:57He was very, very frantic.
03:58As I walk in the house, you can smell the blood.
04:15Blood.
04:18A Christmas tree.
04:21Those two things don't go together at all.
04:23There were footprints leading down to the basement.
04:40Just like, what am I going to see when I get down there?
04:43Coming in.
05:03See you next time.
05:05Come on.
05:08This one is 10 or more.
05:10in the basement there was a pile of clothes
05:17but it really wasn't an ordinary pile of clothes
05:22there was something wrong
05:25as I pulled back the clothes
05:29there's a body
05:33all you're seeing was the plastic bag over their head
05:37with the duct tape around their neck
05:39there was so much blood
05:41you couldn't see a face
05:43I mean I've not seen anything like that
05:47since I've been at homicide
05:49on the left side of the basement
05:54there was another body
05:56and in the same manner
05:58with a bag over the head
06:00duct tape around the bag
06:02when I went down and saw the second body
06:07there was a tube sticking out of the bag
06:10they were elderly ladies
06:15I had elderly parents
06:18and I just couldn't imagine
06:19having to come home to something that gruesome
06:22it was just really really horrific
06:26I was working for the Detroit Police Department
06:40in the homicide section
06:42when I arrived
06:45we found out that Jerry's wife Mary Lou
06:49was 57 years old
06:51and his mother-in-law Dorothy Gilbert
06:55was 74 years old
06:57on oxygen
06:58and more or less disabled
07:00when you first enter a house
07:05the evidence starts writing the picture for you
07:08in this case
07:13there was blood and drag marks
07:16it looked as if there may have been a fight or a struggle
07:22so it is my belief that they were alive
07:29when they were taken to the basement
07:31I would say that
07:35whoever done this
07:37preyed on them
07:40the murder itself was brutal
07:43and they left a trail behind them
07:47which means that
07:48we weren't looking at a professional criminal
07:50what really actually stood out
07:57is that
07:57there were like claw marks
07:59on the desk
08:01I remember it like yesterday
08:04that was strange
08:06because Jerry
08:07he had a hook on his arm
08:08and the fact that
08:11instead of completing a search
08:13for his wife
08:14he went and got someone
08:16to go into the basement of the house
08:18so maybe
08:22he was involved in it himself
08:24I was 20 years old in 1997
08:35I lived on Elm Street
08:39since I was 5 years old
08:40and we knew everybody
08:44like even if we didn't know your name
08:46we knew your face
08:47but when I seen my mom
08:50my heart
08:51it was in my stomach
08:52my mom said they killed
08:54Mary Lou and Dorothy
08:56and
08:57she was hysterical
08:59she was bawling
09:00and crying
09:01and Jerry's in the back of a cop car
09:03and I'm just
09:05I'm just as shocked
09:07as everybody else
09:08I moved into the neighborhood
09:10and I was like 5
09:11even as a kid
09:14he came across as cold
09:16like he didn't really look at me
09:18it was like
09:20he gave me an eeriness
09:21about him
09:22but it could be because
09:23he just didn't speak
09:24Jerry stayed in that cop car
09:27for a long time
09:28and
09:30I don't know
09:31like what was going on
09:32I don't know
09:35I think we all
09:37like everybody
09:37was actually scared
09:39Jerry
09:44he said he had left
09:45about 9.30 in the morning
09:46he had a plumbing job
09:48that he went to
09:49and that he arrived back
09:51at the house
09:51approximately around
09:5212.30
09:53and then he saw
09:55the blood trails
09:56we asked Mr. Drury
10:00what may possibly
10:02may have been missing
10:03and during the search
10:06of the house
10:07Mr. Drury discovered
10:09there was a bloody
10:11jewelry box
10:12that was empty
10:13$400 in cash
10:16was missing
10:17and credit cards
10:19were missing
10:19from the Drury home
10:21the checkbook was missing
10:24and they nickel-plated
10:29.38 revolver
10:31that had been
10:33taken
10:33out of the house
10:35so based on the evidence
10:38that we saw
10:39we knew it was a robbery
10:41and then
10:43we found out
10:44that Jerry
10:44had a business partner
10:45and it turned out
10:48that he was working
10:48so we were able
10:51to eliminate him
10:52as a suspect
10:53when the murders happened
10:57none of us
10:58slept in our house
10:59that day
10:59my mom
11:00my dad
11:00me
11:00my uncle
11:01none of us
11:01I was actually scared
11:04for the first time
11:06after it had happened
11:10I was scared
11:12I made my husband
11:14get up
11:15go to the bathroom
11:17with me
11:18because of the severity
11:22of the crime
11:23the bags over the head
11:25with the duct tape
11:27it's a horrible death
11:28when you're gasping for air
11:30and you can't get it
11:31it made me feel like
11:33I gotta get this case closed
11:35I gotta find out
11:37who did this
11:37and get them off the street
11:39before they do it again
11:40I knew
11:43that I was
11:45the camera out there
11:46it was Christmas time
11:57and
11:59we had a double homicide
12:01items missing
12:03weapons missing
12:05and a perpetrator
12:06that was out there
12:07that was armed and dangerous
12:08the crime
12:10itself was horrific
12:11the victim was
12:13Mary Lou Drury
12:14and Dorothy Gilbert
12:15what I saw
12:18in that house
12:19was like a nightmare
12:20I can't forget this case
12:23Elm Street
12:25it was not a crime
12:27written area
12:28so everyone was scared
12:30everybody was talking
12:33about it
12:34and we really did not
12:35think it was
12:36somebody from our
12:37neighborhood
12:37everybody was coming up
12:40with somebody
12:40trying to rob them
12:42but how could this
12:43happen with
12:44the neighbors
12:45right like that
12:45the classes were
12:46very close
12:47it was an eeriness
12:50in the air
12:51it was
12:55it was just a shame
12:57I didn't want
13:03to believe
13:05that
13:06Mary Lou would
13:08die like her
13:10it kind of shook me
13:18to the core
13:18like it was
13:20it was one of the
13:21most heinous
13:22things that I've ever
13:24like this was
13:26Elm Street
13:26you didn't litter
13:30you didn't bust
13:32the glass
13:33like you did
13:33on the other blocks
13:34like all the kids
13:35played together
13:36it was just
13:36it was nice
13:37and I just could not
13:40believe
13:41that this happened
13:43to them
13:44like oh my god
13:47I love Mary Lou
13:56just as well
13:57as my mom
13:57she never corrected
14:02you
14:02she kind of let you
14:04learn your own way
14:04she was
14:07super nice to me
14:08and her mother
14:10Dorothy was more
14:11nice than Mary Lou
14:12they were
14:14like family
14:15back then
14:19in Detroit
14:19murders didn't
14:20get put on the news
14:21and we got
14:24news crews
14:25out there
14:25we got channel
14:26four or seven
14:27everybody out here
14:27now
14:28two elderly women
14:29have been found
14:30murdered in their
14:31Detroit home
14:32police are still
14:32searching for any
14:33witnesses
14:34residents are on edge
14:35after a brutal attack
14:36the day before
14:37Christmas on Elm Street
14:38at the time
14:42I was working
14:42as the crime
14:43reporter for the
14:43Detroit Free Press
14:44I get a call
14:45from my editor
14:46we got a breaking
14:47story
14:47we got a double
14:48murder
14:48you gotta go out
14:49Detroit was cold
14:52so I bundled up
14:55and waddled my way
14:57out to the scene
14:58at that time
15:00there had been
15:01a rash of home
15:02invasions and murders
15:03in the surrounding
15:04neighborhood
15:05just a few weeks
15:10before there had
15:11been a triple murder
15:12just a few blocks
15:13away
15:14two elderly sisters
15:30and a husband
15:32who was in his 80s
15:33had been stabbed
15:34to death
15:3512 days later
15:41before the Elm Street
15:43case
15:43about 4 miles
15:45away
15:45from Elm Street
15:46a mother
15:48a daughter
15:49and a grandson
15:50was actually
15:51shot to death
15:53in this case
15:56the home
15:56was also ransacked
15:58in all 3 cases
16:01there was no
16:02forced entry
16:02so based on the
16:05similarities
16:05the general public
16:07would say
16:08oh my god
16:09is there a murder
16:10spree going on
16:11in the city of Detroit
16:12the first thought
16:13the first thought
16:14the first thought
16:14that you have
16:15is
16:15could I be in danger
16:16like you've seen
16:19people get jacked
16:20people get robbed
16:21but this was like
16:23but this was like
16:23different
16:24this was like movie
16:27stuff
16:27we never locked
16:30we never locked our door
16:30on Elm Street
16:30and we was in the middle
16:32of Detroit
16:33that's how safe
16:35we thought we were
16:35it was a different
16:37feeling
16:38what Mary Lou
16:38and Dorothy called
16:39like it wasn't the same
16:41they was our neighbors
16:43and it was family
16:45I was on day shift
16:49when we got a call
16:52from the medical examiner
16:53with autopsy reports
16:56based on Mary Lou's
16:58injuries
16:59she was still alive
17:00during the time
17:01that they were putting
17:02the plastic bag
17:04around her neck
17:05and the killer
17:09or killers
17:10decided to do
17:11the same thing
17:12to Dorothy
17:12Dorothy had emphysema
17:17and it was just
17:18really horrific
17:19that you know
17:20that you would just
17:21stick a rag in her mouth
17:23duct tape her
17:25knowing that
17:27it had an oxygen tank
17:29the brutality
17:31of the killings
17:32and also
17:34the fact that
17:35the body
17:36was partially covered
17:37was just a true indicator
17:39that maybe
17:40it was somebody
17:41that knew them
17:42prior to the death
17:43when somebody
17:46covers the body
17:47it's not to hide
17:48the body
17:49it's to remove them
17:51from their vision
17:52so at that time
17:57we went back
17:58to the vicinity
17:58of the other murders
18:00to see
18:01are they connected
18:02we had to see
18:04if there's
18:05any similarities
18:05with the Elm Street case
18:07where we could say
18:10okay
18:11this perpetrator
18:12was over here as well
18:13well
18:15what you do
18:16a lot of times
18:17is you have to
18:18look for what we call
18:19a modus operandi
18:20we look for things
18:24that are similar
18:25to other crimes
18:26that have already
18:27occurred
18:27none of that
18:29was present
18:29at the time
18:30of our investigation
18:31one house
18:33the person
18:34was stabbed
18:35the other person
18:36was shot
18:37we discovered
18:39the only thing
18:40that actually
18:40connected them
18:41was that
18:42there was
18:43no forced entry
18:44there was never
18:48a correlation
18:49between them
18:50based on Dorothy's
18:53and Mary Lou's
18:54injuries
18:55the perpetrator
18:56just really had
18:57a vengeance
18:58against them
18:58it was a well-knit
19:03close community
19:04and the more
19:06that we looked
19:07and the more
19:08that we investigated
19:09it definitely felt
19:10as if they knew
19:11their assailants
19:13the evidence
19:15led us directly
19:16to Elm Street
19:17and that's where
19:19we started
19:19concentrating
19:20our energies
19:21the day after
19:31Mary Lou and Dorothy
19:32was killed
19:33it was Christmas Eve
19:35I don't even
19:38remember Christmas
19:39in 1997
19:40like we would
19:42rather not have
19:42Christmas that year
19:43you can't celebrate
19:46during that
19:46like nothing
19:48as brutal
19:49as ever happened
19:50but we went
19:57to the house
19:57I was with my mom
19:59it was horrible
20:00like because
20:01we was helping
20:02clean up
20:03and stuff like that
20:04mind you
20:08I'm 20
20:08and I'm just
20:09I honestly
20:11I was scared
20:13the lights
20:15presence
20:16everything like that
20:17was still there
20:17there was like
20:21splats of blood
20:22in places
20:23that they didn't
20:23clean up off the floor
20:24like the walls
20:25you could see
20:28where the trail
20:29of blood has been
20:30and like Jerry
20:32he cried a lot
20:33I can't forget
20:37like I have a picture
20:38in my head
20:39and why
20:41did this happen
20:43that was one thing
20:45I've never understood
20:46we had to find out
21:00who had a motive
21:01to actually commit
21:02the crime
21:03so we went
21:05and did a survey
21:06of the neighborhood
21:07during the canvas
21:09we discovered
21:10that the Drury family
21:11pretty much
21:12owned the block
21:13Mary Lou
21:15was in the business
21:16of renting
21:17the homes out
21:18she pretty much
21:20picked her own
21:20neighbors
21:21in this instance
21:24here
21:24Mary Lou
21:25knew everybody
21:26Mary Lou
21:29was the landlady
21:31and like
21:31she gave me
21:32big boss energy
21:33without
21:34flamboyance
21:35like she didn't
21:36have furs
21:37and she could have
21:38she wasn't flashy
21:39she was about
21:41her business
21:42you knew not
21:43to play with her
21:44like you knew
21:45to respect her
21:46that's the energy
21:47she gave me
21:48she had
21:52the office
21:52in the front
21:53that she would
21:55conduct her business
21:56people would come in
21:58and out
21:58to drop their rent off
21:59they really didn't
22:04lock the door
22:04so anyone
22:05in that neighborhood
22:07had an opportunity
22:08to be able
22:09to enter
22:09the dreary home
22:10the family
22:12they were pretty much
22:14vulnerable
22:14she was fair
22:16she rented
22:18with people
22:18who are on welfare
22:19if you didn't have
22:20your rent money
22:21she wasn't the type
22:22to be like
22:22you got 30 days
22:23and you're out of here
22:23I think Mary Lou
22:25was perhaps
22:26too trusting
22:27we all know
22:28what it's like
22:28to have a landlord
22:29it's not usually
22:30a loving and friendly
22:31relationship
22:32December 23rd
22:34was the day
22:35the homicides
22:36took place
22:37that was close
22:38to in the time
22:39that people
22:39would come in
22:40and pay rent
22:41to the dreary family
22:42during the search
22:48of the house
22:49I discovered
22:51that there was
22:51some weapons
22:52missing
22:52Mary Lou
22:58kept the gun
22:59at her desk
23:00you know
23:02a fight
23:03could escalate
23:04at any moment
23:05where we started
23:10asking people
23:11whether or not
23:12they seen
23:13anything remarkable
23:14at the time
23:15Jerry was at work
23:17from 9.30 a.m.
23:19up until 12.45 p.m.
23:21and that's when
23:25we discovered
23:26that one of the
23:28neighbors
23:28heard something
23:29Hazel Johnson
23:32who's sort of
23:33the next door
23:33neighbor
23:34maybe a little bit
23:35of a nosy body
23:36she was good
23:37friends with Mary Lou
23:38and it was
23:40Christmas time
23:40and so
23:42Hazel has some
23:42holiday cards
23:43that she wants
23:43to drop off
23:44to her friend
23:45the family
23:47they have five
23:48chihuahuas
23:48the dogs knew
23:50the neighbor Hazel
23:51very well
23:52Hazel was the
23:54cat lady on the street
23:55she saved all
23:56the cats
23:57if you walk
23:59past Hazel's house
24:00you might see her
24:00walking around
24:01with them all
24:02you know what I'm saying
24:02cats everywhere
24:04normally
24:05the dogs
24:06would stop barking
24:07when they smelled her
24:08well Hazel said
24:11that when she
24:11knocked on the door
24:12she could hear
24:13the dogs barking
24:14frantically
24:14the door
24:21was locked
24:22which was
24:23very unusual
24:24she's thinking
24:26that something's
24:27off
24:27but she wasn't
24:28sure
24:29if Hazel
24:31would have got
24:32inside that house
24:33that day
24:33she would have
24:34definitely
24:34came to the
24:35same fate
24:36as Mary Lou and Dorothy
24:37like
24:39if you walk
24:40past the house
24:41that's all you
24:41would hear
24:41is them dogs
24:42that's why
24:43everybody didn't
24:44understand how
24:45this happened
24:46is because
24:46all these dogs
24:47would have been
24:47barking and
24:48nobody heard
24:50nothing
24:50when I talked
24:51to the police
24:52I said
24:53I didn't hear
24:53the dogs barking
24:54but Pamela
24:56was the
24:58tenant that
24:58lived above
24:59Mary Lou and
25:00Dorothy
25:00maybe she
25:02had heard
25:02something
25:03my mom
25:07would take
25:07care of Dorothy
25:08all during the
25:09day
25:09and
25:11Pam
25:11moved in
25:12upstairs
25:12so she
25:13could be
25:13available
25:14at night
25:14she was
25:16super nice
25:18to me
25:18like
25:18she never
25:19yelled at me
25:20she never
25:20did nothing
25:21like that
25:22she was there
25:24to take care
25:24of Dorothy
25:25caregivers
25:26have a way
25:27of becoming
25:28endeared to
25:29the person
25:29they're giving
25:30care to
25:30I would
25:31imagine
25:32that having
25:32a trusted
25:33person
25:34in their
25:34midst
25:34to take
25:36care
25:36of their
25:37ailing
25:37mother
25:37and treat
25:39her as
25:39a grandmother
25:40must have
25:40felt like
25:41a blessing
25:42and based
25:45on the
25:46information
25:47that we
25:48received
25:48Mary Lou
25:50and Dorothy
25:50got along
25:51great with
25:52Pamela
25:52she even
25:54called
25:55Dorothy
25:55grandma
25:56the main
25:59problem
26:00was that
26:00Pamela
26:01Vannoy
26:02was nowhere
26:03to be found
26:04the door
26:05was locked
26:06her vehicle
26:07was left
26:07outside
26:08the question
26:09was where
26:10was Pamela
26:11where is
26:12the caregiver
26:12what time
26:14did she leave
26:14and where
26:15did she go
26:16and why
26:17hadn't she
26:17returned
26:18we ended up
26:22getting a search
26:23for her
26:24apartment
26:24and looking
26:27at her
26:28apartment
26:28it seemed
26:29like she
26:29just disappeared
26:30if someone
26:31was going
26:32out of town
26:32certain things
26:33that would
26:33have been
26:33missing
26:34and those
26:34things were
26:35not missing
26:35at that time
26:36we were
26:37thinking that
26:38Pamela
26:38could be
26:39the third
26:39victim
26:40Pamela
26:41Vannoy
26:41could have
26:42walked in
26:42on the
26:42murderers
26:43in the act
26:44and they
26:44could have
26:44killed her
26:45too
26:45so there
26:46could have
26:46been
26:47three
26:47victims
26:48that day
26:48instead
26:48of two
26:49the day
27:01after the
27:02murders
27:02of
27:03Mary Lou
27:03Drury
27:04who was
27:05Jerry's
27:05wife
27:06and
27:06Dorothy
27:07Gilbert
27:07who was
27:08Mary Lou's
27:08mother
27:09everyone's
27:10talking
27:11everybody's
27:11there
27:12trying to
27:12figure out
27:13who could
27:14it be
27:14but then
27:15the investigators
27:16started looking
27:17around
27:18and asking
27:19who's supposed
27:20to be here
27:20and isn't
27:21here
27:21guess who
27:22it was
27:23Pamela
27:24Vannoy
27:24Pamela
27:25Vannoy
27:25was a
27:26caretaker
27:26and was
27:27really close
27:28to the
27:28family
27:28she lived
27:30right upstairs
27:31but at this
27:33point she was
27:34nowhere to be
27:35found
27:35this gave us
27:38even a higher
27:39intensity
27:40on the search
27:40for her
27:41she too
27:42could have
27:42been a victim
27:43so we
27:45called in
27:45the first
27:46person
27:46that we
27:46talked to
27:47the homeowner
27:48Jerry
27:48he was
27:50thinking
27:51on what
27:51else he
27:52may have
27:52missed
27:53and he
27:56actually
27:56gave us
27:56information
27:57that
27:58on the
27:58day
27:58of the
27:59murders
27:59he saw
28:01Pamela
28:01and
28:02Mary Lou
28:03talking
28:04for a
28:04long
28:04time
28:05he said
28:07she had
28:08a boyfriend
28:08who was
28:09living
28:10with her
28:10on and
28:11off
28:11Pamela
28:13and Charles
28:13their
28:14relationship
28:14sort of
28:15volatile
28:16Charles
28:18was around
28:19did odd
28:20jobs
28:20early on
28:22a Drury
28:23family
28:23felt like
28:24he could help
28:25with the
28:25house
28:25and the
28:26maintenance
28:26Charles
28:28was a
28:28handyman
28:29but he
28:31had a
28:31violent
28:32past
28:32so
28:35Jerry
28:35thinks
28:35maybe
28:36something's
28:37off
28:37from day
28:38one
28:39it was
28:40always
28:41a feeling
28:41about
28:41Charles
28:42it looked
28:44pretty bad
28:45he never
28:46spoke to
28:47us
28:47much
28:47I was
28:49actually
28:49scared
28:50for Pam
28:51later
28:59that day
28:59we found
29:01a witness
29:01that
29:02Pamela
29:02came to
29:03her
29:03to use
29:04her
29:05telephone
29:05she said
29:09the morning
29:09of the
29:10murders
29:10on December
29:1123rd
29:12that
29:13Pamela
29:13Vannoy
29:14and Charles
29:15Vaughn
29:15showed up
29:16at her
29:16house
29:16and she
29:18was carrying
29:18plastic
29:19bags
29:19Pam
29:21had a
29:21lot
29:21of her
29:22personal
29:22belongings
29:23and she
29:24wanted to
29:24leave them
29:24at her
29:25house
29:25and Charles
29:27went straight
29:27to the
29:28bathroom
29:28she didn't
29:29think
29:29anything
29:30of it
29:31until
29:34when Charles
29:34came back
29:35he pulled
29:35a gun
29:36and said
29:36look
29:37you didn't
29:37see us
29:38and then
29:38they
29:39disappeared
29:39it was
29:42a nickel
29:42plated
29:43.38
29:43revolver
29:44it looked
29:45like the
29:46one
29:46that was
29:46missing
29:47at that
29:48moment
29:49we suspect
29:50that Charles
29:51killed
29:52Mary Lou
29:52and Dorothy
29:54he was
29:56armed and
29:56dangerous
29:57he actually
29:58threatened a
29:58witness
29:59so there
30:00was no
30:00telling if
30:01he would
30:01use that
30:02weapon
30:02for
30:04something
30:04worse
30:05I
30:13continued
30:13to
30:14canvas
30:14the
30:15neighborhood
30:15we
30:19found
30:19a
30:20witness
30:20he
30:21made
30:21a
30:21statement
30:21that
30:22was
30:22revealing
30:23in
30:23several
30:23ways
30:24so
30:26the
30:27neighbor

30:38for Mary Lou
30:39like everybody
30:40else

30:41but Mary Lou
30:43took her to
30:43bingo
30:44every night
30:44five nights
30:45a week
30:45that night
30:48Mary Lou
30:49told
30:49Helen
30:50that she
30:51had caught
30:52Pamela
30:52stealing
30:53$15

36:30he helped

36:31Dorothy's

36:32because he
36:33was afraid
36:34of what
36:34she was
36:35capable
36:35of doing
36:36Pamela
36:38has a
36:39different
36:39version
36:39of this
36:39story
36:40according
36:41to Pamela
36:42Charles
36:42wanted to
36:43do a
36:43robbery
36:43he said
36:45they've
36:46used us
36:46long
36:47enough
36:47somehow
36:50this
36:52wonderful
36:52family
36:53who took
36:53them in

36:57and paid
36:57them for
36:58an honest
36:58day's
36:58work
36:59that somehow
37:00he was
37:01owed
37:01more
37:02they were
37:05going to
37:06wait
37:06until
37:07Gerald
37:07went to
37:08work
37:08went to
37:09go
37:09downstairs
37:09coast is
37:13clear
37:13the plan
37:14was simple
37:14tie him up
37:15and rob
37:16him
37:16no harm
37:16no foul
37:17little bit
37:17of harm
37:18little bit
37:18of foul
37:18but certainly
37:19no bloodshed
37:20and murder
37:20but Pamela
37:24says
37:24once they
37:25go back
37:25inside
37:26some
37:27kind of
37:28switch
37:29went off
37:30and Charles
37:31became
37:32violently
37:32angry
37:33she said
37:34that
37:35Mary Lou
37:36was begging
37:36and pleading
37:37before
37:38Charles did
37:39anything to
37:39her mother
37:40Dorothy
37:40but he
37:41didn't care
37:42Pamela
37:43said she
37:43tried to
37:44intervene
37:45and stop
37:46him from
37:47what would
37:47become a
37:47murderous
37:48frenzy
37:48he turns
37:50the gun
37:51on his
37:52girlfriend
37:52and says
37:54this
37:54deserves it
37:55it
37:58it
37:58wasn't a
37:58matter
37:59of
37:59who
37:59did
37:59it
37:59both
38:00of
38:00them
38:00were
38:01there
38:01at
38:01the
38:01time
38:01both
38:02of
38:02them
38:02became
38:03enraged
38:03because
38:04they had
38:04nowhere
38:05to go
38:05they had
38:06no money
38:06they had
38:08no family
38:09and friends
38:09that would
38:09take them
38:10in
38:10at that
38:11particular
38:11time
38:12truthfully
38:14I don't
38:14believe it
38:15I don't
38:15believe that
38:16one person
38:16did all
38:17of that
38:17it was a
38:19two person
38:20job
38:20it's my
38:28belief that
38:29Dorothy heard
38:30the fight
38:31heard the
38:32struggle
38:32heard the
38:33yelling
38:33and came
38:34to the
38:35assistance
38:35of her
38:36daughter
38:36who was
38:37fighting
38:38for her
38:38life
38:38and she
38:42too got
38:42caught up
38:43in the
38:43web
38:44of the
38:46killing
38:46they were
38:49alive
38:50when they
38:50were taken
38:51to the
38:51basement
38:51and they
38:53died a
38:54horrible
38:54death
38:55they were
38:58both
38:58sentenced to
38:59life in
38:59prison
39:00which I
39:01think
39:01was well
39:02deserved
39:03it's a
39:06sense of
39:07satisfaction
39:08that you
39:10were able
39:10to close
39:10the case
39:11but the
39:14whole block
39:14was devastated
39:15by a
39:15homicide
39:16whatever
39:19sense of
39:20safety
39:20that this
39:21tight-knit
39:21Elm Street
39:22community
39:22had felt
39:23that was
39:24over forever
39:25our life
39:28pivoted
39:29at that
39:29point
39:30it didn't
39:31like that
39:32was a pivot
39:33point of
39:34all of our
39:34lives
39:35my mom
39:38didn't celebrate
39:39another Christmas
39:40until my son
39:41came
39:41Mary Lou
39:44was
39:45like a
39:48sister
39:48to me
39:51a world
39:52that never
39:53changed
39:54I just
39:58can't
40:00understand
40:01why
40:03why
40:07somebody
40:08would
40:08just
40:09just
40:10just
40:10just
40:12to
40:14her
40:14to
