00:00I guess, hey, wait, the fool guy.
00:02Congratulations.
00:03You got this matching memo, too, with all of them.
00:06Yeah, the irony is, I actually didn't get the memo.
00:09This is genuinely, see, algae is just very in, and we all went here.
00:14Yeah.
00:14Amazing coincidence.
00:16Yeah, I know, truly.
00:17So how did this kind of all come together, this idea, and kind of working with David on this?
00:22I got a call from David Leach, my favorite action director,
00:25and he said he'd got the fool guy, and did I have any ideas for how we did it?
00:32And I had a ton, and, you know, I said to David, let's make the best David Leach movie ever.
00:38I actually said it in a darker way than that.
00:39I said, I'll do it if this is the movie that they focus on in your in-memoriam at the Oscars,
00:45which is a weird thing to say to your friend in retrospect,
00:48but that is absolutely how it happened, and that's where we went.
00:52This is the movie we've got at the end of it.
00:54And was all too well written into the script, or did you have a specific song in that car scene, or?
01:01There were a lot of songs that went through that.
01:04The most significant one up until that point was In Excess Is Never Tear Us Apart because of Australia,
01:10but frankly, obviously, we landed in the right place.
01:13Of course we did.
01:14And do you all know Ryan and Emily would have this amazing chemistry,
01:18or did you kind of stumble on that along the way?
01:20I think they knew that they were going to have a chemistry,
01:24and we were lucky to have either of them, let alone both of them.
01:27And I think we genuinely have a romantic pairing for the ages,
01:30and we're lucky to have them.
01:33And this movie also kind of touches on the dangers of AI and deepfakes.
01:37Why was that kind of something that you guys wanted to address?
01:40Honestly, I wrote the stuff about the deepfakes and the AI before everything happened last year
01:46with the strikes and everything else,
01:47but what I will say is I think in a time when we're afraid of AI and what it's doing,
01:54like the humanity of what Colt and Jodie, what Ryan and Emily do in the movie,
02:01is straight up something that you can't fake.
02:04And so I think the movie is its own answer to the problem.
02:08And why do you feel like some people have been underappreciated for so long?
02:12I think the reason that some people have been so underappreciated
02:15is partly because their entire job is hiding, like is not being seen.
02:20But the trouble is at a certain point, you're not being seen by everyone,
02:24and you need the recognition you deserve, and that's what we're going to get.
02:27Thank you so much.
