Nigeria security chiefs report progress in rescuing kidnapped students

A total of 303 schoolchildren and 12 teachers were abducted by gunmen during an attack on St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in north-central Nigeria’s Niger state, the Christian Association of Nigeria said on Saturday, updating an earlier tally of 215 schoolchildren

00:00Nigerian security chiefs have met with President Bolatinubu as the kidnapping of hundreds of school children continues to rile public opinion in the country. Nigeria's army chief said work to rescue the victims was continuing.
00:16Presently we are receiving very good positive news from Kwara state where the entire 38 people that were abducted have been reunited with their families and progress is also made from Niger state whereby we have our 51 of those students that are now reunited with their families.
00:39More than 300 children and 12 teachers were abducted by gunmen during an attack on a Catholic school in Niger state. 50 have since escaped.
00:49For Kirby state, efforts are also yielding positive results. Progress is being made substantially in that aspect. And all security forces are still deployed according to the whole general area whereby we expect that we'll have some also news from that general area.
01:10The kidnappings are happening amid U.S. President Donald Trump's claims of targeted killings against Christians in the West African country.
