00:00Scott Lomo and George Wright have just landed in Ghana, Africa.
00:16Let's do it, man. I'm excited.
00:23They ventured halfway around the world to turn their lives around.
00:29They are here for gold.
00:33There's a massive gold rush going on in Ghana right now.
00:36Miners from all over the world are pouring in here, competing for gold-rich land and getting rich.
00:41So we thought, why not us? Everyone wants gold.
00:44Scott and I just want our peace and we might have to fight for it.
00:47Ghana sits on some of the world's largest gold reserves.
00:513.6 million ounces worth around $5 billion were pulled from the ground last year.
00:58Mining is a very, very dangerous business. People die out here all the time.
01:02We've got about a five-hour trip and we're going to see our claim.
01:05We've negotiated for what we think is an awesome prime piece of gold real estate.
01:10The land that we've got here is the answer to all of our problems and we can't wait to get there and get to work.
01:16To get their mining operation going, George and Scott are carrying a small fortune.
01:24Right here we've got about $15,000 U.S. in Ghanaian currency. We don't have any more money.
01:28Hang on, cut the money down. Put it away.
01:30Hold on.
01:32This is one of the roadblocks. These guys want money. Okay, be cool. Get your window down. Get your window down.
01:39You've got to look. Spot machetes, spot machetes.
01:42In Ghana, most people earn under $5 a day.
01:45Makeshift roadblocks are an easy way for the locals to make quick cash.
01:50This time, a dollar gets them through, but it's just the beginning of their long, dangerous trip.
02:17Nothing's going to get through that.
02:19George Wright is saying goodbye to his family.
02:31I love you.
02:32I like him.
02:39George is deep in debt and is heading to the jungle in Ghana to mine for gold.
02:44It could be months before he returns to his wife and three kids.
02:48We have the notice of default between my debt of $500,000, $600,000, and you throw Scott's debt in there, which puts us above a million dollars.
02:55You know, we need to pull out 500 ounces of gold immediately so that we can bring that gold home, take care of these bills, and put food on the table for our kids.
03:05Eleven miles away is his friend and longtime business partner, Scott Lomo.
03:13A couple of years ago, the guys were both successful millionaire realtors.
03:18There was a time a few years ago where almost anything that you did in real estate made you money, and we made a lot of money.
03:25But when the bottom dropped out of the housing market, George and Scott found themselves drowning in debt with no way out.
03:32I can't, you know, go get a loan.
03:34I can't borrow money.
03:35I don't know what else to do.
03:36I feel like this has to be it because it's too hard on the kids.
03:44It's too hard having you here and then gone and gone for so long.
03:49So I just feel like if it doesn't work this time, you know.
04:02But Scott and George have a concrete plan to pay off their mortgages and debts.
04:07We picked Ghana because everywhere you go in this entire area, you'll find gold.
04:12Their gold claim is in the Ashanti Belt, Ghana's most lucrative mining area.
04:17It holds an estimated 125 million ounces of gold worth over $200 billion.
04:24George and I have studied this out. We're not just doing this on a whim.
04:27We're going to make this work. The stakes are too high.
04:29And the debts that we have cannot be paid off by going and working a nine-to-five job.
04:34It would take us 30 years to get out of the hole that we're in.
04:37We can get out of this hole in three months.
04:41Scott and George know where to find gold in Ghana. They've mined here before.
04:48When their real estate business went belly up, the guys spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to find millions in Ghana's gold rush.
04:56Holding this gold in my hand just gives me butterflies in my stomach.
04:59They found $300,000 worth of gold and proved to their investor they can find jungle gold.
05:06We know we can do this. We've got a good site. We've got good equipment.
05:09Make it happen, you guys. We will.
05:11After another round of fundraising, the guys have just secured a new claim.
05:18And got permission to mine it from the chief.
05:25Dude.
05:26How are you, dude?
05:28It's time to head back to Ghana to mine. And this time, the guys will be gone for months.
05:39Scott and George travel 7,000 miles from Utah to West Africa.
05:54The guys are more desperate for cash than ever.
05:57Mounting debt has forced them to Ghana during the toughest part of the year, the rainy season.
06:03Five inches can fall in just one day.
06:07We don't want to be out here during the rainy season.
06:09And normally, Scott and I have tried to avoid it.
06:11The problem is the bills have stacked up too high, and we don't have a choice.
06:14We have to fight through it.
06:18After a two-day journey, the guys finally approached the gold claim they've never laid eyes on before.
06:25Up over the hill, millions in gold could await them.
06:33Crap.
06:34Just go.
06:35No.
06:36No, we're not going to make this.
06:37Scott, you can make it.
06:38Just push it.
06:39That's all mine.
06:40There's no way in hell.
06:41No.
06:42Ride that groove.
06:43You'll be fine.
06:44Push it up.
06:45All right.
06:46Your call.
06:47Bring it over.
06:48Bring it over.
06:52You lost our momentum.
06:53Back up and go back again.
06:54There is no way in hell we make this.
06:56Just ride the groove.
06:57You stay to the left side.
06:58You're going to stay at high ground.
07:00Do it.
07:01Do it.
07:02Do it.
07:03We're tipping.
07:04We're tipping.
07:05We're tipping.
07:11Fly off the road.
07:14We got to get up this.
07:24We're actually just stuck.
07:27We can dig it out.
07:28The nearest tow truck is miles away.
07:30If they can't free the truck, they'll spend their first night in Ghana in the jungle.
07:38George slides aboard under the truck's tires to get some traction.
07:42It's dug down a little more deep on this side.
07:45Well, let me rock it and see if I can get up on there.
07:48Okay?
07:49All right.
07:50I'll be pushing.
07:51Go!
07:52Push it!
07:53Push it!
07:54Go!
07:55Yes!
07:56Go!
07:57Go!
07:58They finally get the truck out.
08:11Ah!
08:12Oh!
08:13But it's clear...
08:15It won't make it up the muddy hill.
08:16Let's grab a shit and go!
08:17Let's go and go.
08:26Scott and George have no choice
08:28but to walk up the hill to their claim on foot.
08:33What the F?
08:37What is that?
08:40Whose excavator is that?
08:42Victor!
08:43There to greet them is Foreman Victor Kapah.
08:46Victor will help George and Scott run their mine.
08:49What's going on here?
08:51It's like Chinese guys are all over.
08:54These are Chinese guys.
08:55They're working on our site?
08:57Yeah.
08:59I'm going around, but it's like
09:01Chinese guys are all over.
09:03It's all dug up.
09:04Scott, look at this.
09:08Mining for gold in Ghana can be chaotic and lawless.
09:13The country is in the middle of a gold rush.
09:16Thousands of Chinese miners are estimated
09:18to be hunting the abundant Ghana gold.
09:22Nine months ago, Scott and George leased this land
09:25from the government and paid $3,000
09:27to the local chief to secure the claim.
09:31Scott?
09:33But it appears the Chinese are now
09:36illegally mining George and Scott's land.
09:39Get them off.
09:40George, come here.
09:41Get over here.
09:42Come here.
09:43Come here.
09:45Come here.
09:46Come here.
09:47Come here.
09:53Is this your site?
09:54This is your site?
09:56Is this your land?
09:57Hey.
09:58He's going to tell you it's his land no matter what.
09:59What's he going to say?
10:00I'm illegal?
10:01No.
10:02We go to the chief.
10:03Let's go.
10:04OK.
10:04Then end him.
10:05Let's go and a guy over here with shotguns.
10:07There's probably 400 guys right behind him.
10:12You've been to Chinese sites.
10:13You know what they look like.
10:14There's a whole encampments of them.
10:15We're not going to walk in there.
10:16Fine.
10:17Where's the chief?
10:18The chief is in the town.
10:19You show him to me.
10:20I want to talk to him.
10:21Scott wants to talk to him.
10:22We have words.
10:24Victor, do you understand how serious this is?
10:26Do you understand how much money we've spent?
10:28How long we've been planning to do this?
10:31The chief controls all the land in the area.
10:34The guys have to find out if the chief double sold their site
10:38or if the Chinese are claim jumping.
10:42This is a big problem.
10:44I'm pissed off.
10:46You know, we've come a long way to go through all of this.
10:50I'm really pissed off right now that somebody would try
10:52to deceive me like that when we're out here trying
10:54to provide for our families.
10:58Yeah, more trucks, Scott.
11:02I've got to get in the car.
11:03Go.
11:03Coming up, the guys confront the chief and his elders.
11:08If you're attempting, they will kill you.
11:10And hit roadblocks at every turn.
11:12Scott gets their only excavator.
11:16How deep is that?
11:16In a tough spot.
11:18We're stuck.
11:19And in a desperate attempt to send money back home.
11:23I'll pay you right now.
11:24The guys make a sketchy back alley gold deal.
11:27That is the biggest piece of gold I've ever seen.
11:41Scott Lomo, George Wright, and Foreman Victor Kapar are heading
11:45to the village of Sushensu in Ghana to meet with the local chief.
11:50The guys must find out if the chief has double sold their gold claim
11:53to Chinese miners.
11:54What we know is that we just saw Chinese guys working everywhere.
11:58Okay.
11:59So we don't know what it's going on.
12:00We still hope that there's some misunderstanding.
12:03We hope that we can stay on this land.
12:05But it is far too dangerous for the guys to confront the Chinese miners.
12:10Ghana has a violent history of shooting incidents on Chinese gold claims.
12:15The only person who has the power to remove them is the local chief and his elders.
12:21Hi.
12:22How are you?
12:23Good.
12:24When you come to us.
12:33It's good.
12:35Well, we've gone to the site and we found many, many Chinese miners.
12:42And so we want to come and talk and ask who has the right to be there.
12:47has given them their land we want to uproot them definitely we have to move them but you know there
12:55are no resources to do that the chief acknowledges that the chinese are mining george and scott's
13:01claim illegally he knows he should be forcing chinese miners off the land but he has no way
13:07of doing so the chinese have guns and he doesn't very dangerous they are very dangerous dangerous
13:14we're very concerned you know we have families what i said if you attempted they will kill you
13:22yes so paul we want we want to work and make money for you but we don't want to die we are
13:29we are not going to fight you know we are not here to destroy anybody nobody's going to shoot
13:34we understand and it's it's problematic for all of us so but we understand right
13:44we need to find a site that's already got all the problems fixed so i think there were problems
13:51right i think we can't do this hey if we're gonna do this let's do it now let's go
14:00kicking the chinese off no problem let me go ask them to kindly leave the land that we have papered
14:06and that we've paid for i'll end up in a hole it's just too dangerous for the guys or the chief to
14:13confront the chinese miners but scott and george are deep in debt they need a new gold claim fast
14:20now it's go time and we get out there and we go find a piece of dirt we got to find land right now
14:28that evening george calls his wife marie back in utah he has bills to pay and no way to pay them
14:35hello hey marie how you doing good what's what's the news
14:46well just no news we're just one battle after another it's just you know it's just a fight every
14:53step of the way it's a fight well um i've got the health insurance that's going to lapse
15:01that's like a couple hundred bucks do you think there's something like some way that you'd be
15:07able to send a couple hundred home just so i can pay that
15:15um
15:19um
15:24yeah
15:24yeah so i i i don't have anything to send right now
15:32okay i love you
15:37goodbye goodbye
15:42she needs some extra cash i don't know how we're gonna get it we're not mining we're not even close
15:48to getting gold or money or anything
15:53the next day it's 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity the guys meet in the town of dunqua to
16:01begin the hunt for a new claim okay let's call him scott calls chris chandler an american gold miner
16:07in ghana that the guys worked with just a year ago hey chris hey hey it's scott how's it going
16:14good man how are you uh hey we've had better days we've had a problem with our first concession and
16:20maybe you can point us in the right direction um yeah we have one in particular we can discuss
16:26okay let's go that's our next lead we gotta go
16:33it's a 25 mile journey from dunqua to chris's claim near the orphan river in the gold rich ashanti belt
16:40a region estimated to contain 125 million ounces of gold worth over 200 billion dollars we just hope
16:48they've got something for us we're out of time we gotta hurry here they are
16:56a gold claim here could be worth millions
16:59good to see you yeah yeah cool we really appreciate you guys seeing us
17:03no problem seriously thank you business chris and his partner sing have mined in ghana for four years
17:09they've pulled up to eighty thousand dollars of gold from the ground a week we need something
17:15fast we're out of time so you guys have anything um yeah we have we have 25 acre concessions fully
17:22licensed and legal and and you know it's all already been taken care of survey's been done on it and
17:27everything you know this is gonna be this was supposed to be our retirement we have the drilling record
17:32we have the drilling record of of of um like a survey has been done on it survey's been done on
17:37it and everything we know what the values are in it drill reports show kristen singh's 25 acre
17:42ramasso claim holds an estimated 1.5 million dollars in gold enough for the guys to get out of debt even
17:50make a profit but in the middle of ghana's gold rush land is at a premium and land owners have the upper hand
18:00all right so we just got to hash out the details from here cool that's the that's the easy part
18:06right yeah i don't know we'll have to see how far your arm can twist yeah it's it's right now it's
18:12pretty twistable it's pretty bendy just call me gumby right now all right all right thank you guys
18:18thank you guys thank you guys thank you guys thank you so much see you guys out you got your back
18:23what you think thank you screen's a ton dude we're not gonna let you fell okay thank you
18:32george and scott finally have a claim to mine
18:36but it's too early to tell if it holds the million plus in gold they desperately need it to
18:53get out of the way to their hotel in tunkwa there's just tons of traffic i've never seen so
19:00much traffic before in the city like this they have a handshake deal for a new gold claim that
19:06is estimated to hold 1.5 million dollars in gold but they still need to iron out the details of the
19:13deal with the claim owner chris chandler hey chris yeah yeah we're just heading back to the hotel now
19:23that's the deal wow now i'll have to discuss it with scott i appreciate it bye
19:39so look the deal is kristen singh won 25 of the gold
19:43they keep control of operations on the mine and they have their consulting fees on top
19:47i just think we need to slow down a bit is all just really look at what we have been offered
19:54yeah that's a smoking deal for them but you know the upside is they know exactly what they're doing
19:59and we'll be able to find gold a lot quicker with them
20:04i agree with your concerns and i think that we should you know take more time to go find the right
20:08site but our families don't have time to wait for us to do that we could spend another couple weeks
20:13looking for the perfect site by then well we have mortgage payments too we got to get in the dirt
20:17right now so i hear what you're saying i just think we're out of time the ramaso claim could hold
20:23up to 1.5 million in gold if the land holds that much gold and the guys can pull it out of the ground
20:30they'll clear one million dollars enough to get out of debt you know me if you're saying you're in
20:36i've got your back 100 i'm with you let's do it
20:52the next morning the guys hit the road early to get their claim up and running as fast as possible
21:01so scott's heading out there with the surveyor now so that we know what part of that land is ours
21:05and what part of it is in ours you got to know your boundaries in this game i'm on my way now
21:10to go get our excavator and i got to take it 25 miles to the village by our new site
21:18the last time scott and george were in ghana they used three excavators to mine for gold
21:24the only one still working was the 330b but that was 11 months ago
21:29to ensure the guys get off to a good start their claim owner has let george borrow his excavator
21:38driver ushan kumar but george has no clue if the excavator will start after sitting for 11 months
21:46here in ghana machinery left on the side of the road is often stripped of parts
22:04yeah
22:08george and team carefully load their 70 000 excavator onto a low boy
22:16and start out for their new claim
22:25george victor and bouchon now have a 25 mile journey to their ramaso claim
22:30on roads where anything is possible
22:33just when things are starting to look up for george and scott
22:40something's in the middle of the road up there looks like a roadblock or something
22:44okay this is an illegal roadblock
22:51victor be careful victor goes to find out why the villagers have blocked the road
22:56the locals have built a makeshift bridge and they are demanding a toll to get across
23:06what do they want
23:09200 cds is over a hundred dollars just to pass through one small village i'm not paying 200 cds
23:16alone with no authorities in sight victor tries to calm the mom so they can get through the barricade
23:28they're shaking us down for 200 seconds just across this bridge will you please let us cross
23:36but if george doesn't pay up the villagers may take the truck and his excavator to strip them for parts
23:43uh but after two hours of back and forth victor returns with a deal
23:51he has negotiated the locals down from a hundred dollars to less than 20. but the standoff has
23:57pushed george to his breaking point
23:59we had to make 20 about just to get through there it's just so tiring the smaller bridges i feel
24:16by the guys themselves they use that house to build it so it's like nobody's helping them like the
24:23government's not helping them do that so they do it themselves like it's so pissed that i feel like i'm
24:27being taken advantage of you just have to appreciate their effort tell them you understand what they
24:32are saying but you don't have money and just come in that they will do it they will listen to you
24:37but if you want to be arrogant they are more arrogant than you
24:4615 miles up ahead on their new ramaso gold claim scott and mine owner chris have brought in local
24:52surveyor e.k adanza adanza's job on the site is to find the claims boundary post so the guys know where
25:00they can legally bring in their excavator once we know where the boundaries are then we'll have to
25:06sit down and devise a strategy chris owns the mining rights but he has never worked the land after an
25:13hour of searching for posts in the 25 acres of jungle the team is lost i hear pumps going on do you hear that
25:19yeah yeah people drudging the stream here's the whole camp back here look at that chinese camp
25:26probably george and scott's new land is surrounded by a chinese claim we're on a chinese site and i
25:32wouldn't have this camera out i'd put it down the team has stumbled onto chinese land they are
25:38trespassing don't speak chinese and don't have guns you have a guy right here with a shotgun hey he's gonna
25:44fire the gun the team has stopped dead in their tracks on some of the hottest gold mining ground
25:51in ghana surrounded by heavily armed chinese miners i would put that camera away if i were you scott lomo
26:08and team are trying to find the post that marked the boundaries of his new gold claim
26:13he needs to determine what land is his so he can map out a route for the excavator he needs to bring in
26:19but he is lost and is now trespassing on a chinese gold claim we are clearly not on our site not
26:26minding our business we do have a guy here and a guy here both armed looking at us right now i'm
26:32concerned about getting the hell out of here well let's go back around i know the basic direction of where
26:41this this concession is finally after two hours of searching in the jungle the team locates a ramaso
26:54claim marker this is a good sign having the boundaries properly marked gives us some ammunition to say
27:00you know read it and weep
27:06the ramaso gold claim covers 25 acres of jungle and with its boundaries now clearly marked scott brings
27:13in their 75 000 pound excavator on a narrow three mile dirt track but it's the middle of the rainy season
27:20and everything is flooded there's no driveway onto the claim
27:29thank you just as scott meets george and victor in the village of ramaso
27:33the skies open up further complicating matters
27:46we have the throttle
27:46we're about a quarter mile away from our site just beyond these trees lies millions of dollars of gold
28:02the other one within just a stone's throw of their claim flood waters block their path
28:22how deep is that
28:24i don't know let's go see
28:25i mean there's water right here through this area but i can see high ground on the other side of it
28:31we're like a hundred yards away from our site there's an estimated 1.5 million dollars of gold
28:37on the ramaso claim if they can get it all out george and scott just may be able to climb out of debt
28:44and provide for their families i'm gonna walk through this hopefully you'll be able to just walk
28:49your excavator right on through follow me in if you can get across let's go we'll deal with the rest later
28:54but without an excavator there'll be no gold at all
29:03if the water level reaches the cab scott is sitting in the engine will flood
29:23if they lose their only working excavator their last ditch effort to find gold in ghana will fail
29:33get the excavator up onto the only dry land on their new claim good job dude
29:55he killed it he killed it we had a huge day today i mean just an incredible day i mean i was almost
30:01in tears at one point just because i didn't think we were going to be able to make it and then i was
30:04in tears at the other point because we did but the water all around them has the guys worried if it
30:11goes up a couple more inches the other equipment can't get in and we can't do much with one excavator
30:16so let's just hope and pray that this water goes down and that we can get all the rest of the equipment
30:21in and we can start digging i am excited with that but i there's a big ominous cloud overhead and i'm
30:27i'm hoping that it's not rain
30:40the next morning things go from bad to worse nearly five inches of overnight rain has overwhelmed the
30:47dirt road to the claim but james a local guide knows another way in all right let's go grab a canoe and
30:54head on out it's good to see you thank you for coming the floods open up a different way through
31:04the jungle the biggest worry for us is how far in is this going to go but james's route again brings
31:11them dangerously close to their chinese neighbors this time too close move it move it
31:28we got a little too close for comfort it looks like onto our neighbor's site so
31:32we had to bug out of there uh we're on our way now so we gotta go
31:42scott and george head back to dunquat until the water recedes they can't begin mining the ramaso claim
31:50seven days after arriving in ghana scott and george haven't even seen gold
31:56after all this crap it's just unbelievably frustrating you know i keep thinking about
32:00all the things that have to be accomplished by us you know obviously my never one thoughts the family
32:04you know and how far behind we are already and how we can't even you know take care of things it's
32:09just it's just incredibly frustrating yeah we need to be doing better man you know we've done the math
32:16right how much should we have sent home combined it's like 35 36 hundred bucks that we should have
32:21already sent home just to pay the mortgage just to survive we got to step it up we will
32:29let's just people are counting on us to do you know what we haven't been doing we haven't flipped
32:33on the hustle switch we got to get to do some more hustling i've just got to make sure that we're
32:37prepared to overcome no that's what we're if anyone can do this it's going to be you and i all right
32:44man let's go
32:50together scott and george are over one million dollars in debt after the bottom fell out of the real estate
32:56market to start digging themselves out of the hole they have to send money home to utah without a
33:02viable claim they only have one option buy cheap gold off the street to flip for a quick profit
33:09we're trying to go out to some of these local miners directly with cash in hand ready to buy gold
33:14for villagers it can be safer to flip gold for cash in your own village than carrying gold into town
33:21but back alley gold deals are extremely dangerous and often go south we don't know who we're dealing
33:26with and that's the biggest danger of all if their gold's real if they're trying to rob us if they're
33:31trying to set us up listen everything's okay out here in ghana until it's not scott and george head to
33:37aquaboso a remote village full of miners eager to quickly turn their gold into cash so this is aquaboso
33:44we got to make sure that we're hey yeah guys put the camera down camera down got to get that down
33:51with thousands of dollars changing hands everyone is on edge i'll stay you got this i got this all right
33:59watch the money okay george and victor head off to find the main gold dealer in town see here
34:08right away a woman who claims to know the dealer starts negotiating with george
34:18uh-huh and where's the gold today
34:25no we're here right now we're here right now we have cash
34:30do you have gold how much gold do you have right now i'll pay you right now
34:34before george can make a deal victor returns with the main dealer and he has gold to sell
34:48but george and scott are attracted unwarned attention
34:53just as the dealer pulls out balls of gold he gets spooked by something on the street
35:04scott lomo and george right are in a remote mining village trying to buy gold off the street
35:13but their gold dealer just got spooked and disappeared george is carrying thousands
35:18in ghanaian currency and needs to find a new dealer fast
35:33good luck
35:41he's in the car go here
35:44scott lomo and george right are in the middle of a dangerous street deal
35:49a week after arriving in ghana to mine for gold they have made no money
35:55they have resorted to flipping gold thousands are on the line
35:58the gold dealer returns but he's even more nervous now
36:04hey uh do we do we have to do this for you
36:06hey hey let's do this somewhere
36:10scott and the dealer agree to drive out of town to do the deal
36:14but the dealer demands that someone stay back as human collateral
36:18i'll stay i'll stay i'll stay price
36:21okay okay buying and selling gold can be lucrative in ghana but these deals often turn into robberies
36:32especially when foreigners are involved you you trust victor i trust him okay good so let's do that
36:39scott needs to be careful and if he can buy low so he can sell high
36:46okay here we go the dealer pulls out a ball of gold
36:50yeah 62. that's grams 62 grams is two ounces worth about 3 200 in the u.s
37:04in ghana it is worth about 6 400 cds and the dealer demands that price and that's the price not okay
37:13you can do it we can go come on we'll buy it right now this is a lot of gold we can pay cash today
37:32if you come down if you come down to 4 253 cds that's a good deal if he gets his price scott is
37:40looking at a potential profit of 2 200 cds or 1 000 that is if the gold he is buying turns out to be pure
37:49there's not a lot of margin in that victor but we'll make money we'll make some money today
37:58okay
38:01we can do this now let's go back
38:03with the deal closed scott returns to pick up george that is the biggest piece of gold i've ever
38:12seen in the bush we might have just made money okay okay don't let's go let's go let's go let's go
38:18they head to the nearby town of ubwasi to smelt the gold it's a trip gold dealers in remote villages in
38:24ghana are reluctant to make selling gold in your own town can be safer than risking traveling with it
38:30the street deal cost the guys 2500 dollars it's now time to see if they made a profit or bought
38:38worthless junk we're here to find out exactly how much money down to the dollar scott and i made on
38:44buying gold out in the villages we think we're going to make about seven or eight hundred dollars
38:48but until this gold comes out of this fire and we know you just never know
38:54i'm just hoping we made some money first sulfuric acid is used to clean the gold
38:59some of the impurities are going to burn off and we're just hoping that we keep as much of the
39:02gold as we walked in with
39:06so there's no other metals in here no there's no matter they clean it very well
39:10this street deal might just pay off the gold appears to be pure it's all pure gold man it's very
39:16clean clean clean gold after the impurities are burned off the gold is smelted down in a crucible
39:24at 2000 degrees fahrenheit right now the gold is glowing it's just about to start melting
39:35then it's going to pour it into this mold right here and it's going to sizzle and turn into gold
39:40smelting is crude but effective for thousands of years it's been the only way to purify raw gold
39:46it's very simple it takes about 10 15 minutes to get 99.9 pure gold
39:54wait you did that that's right nice job dude that's why we're here baby in each town there are
40:06local gold merchants independent dealers cashing in on ghana's gold rush before scott and george
40:13smelted their gold it weighed over two ounces or 62 grams any weight loss during that process
40:20will cut into their profits moment of truth huh
40:32less than half a percent just burned off there could be more good news
40:37this week ghana's exchange rate crashed against the u.s dollar a good offer above 4 253 cds
40:44could mean a real profit the total price is 5 513 gana city it's 917 dude the guy's risky
40:55two-hour street deal has made them a quick 900 it won't pay off their debt back home
41:01but they are back on track we'll take cash
41:04and get used to this
41:15they can now finally send some money home to their families
41:18hey guys hey how are you where's the gold i got some gold buddy i got some gold scott and i hustled
41:38some gold and we actually made 917 dollars on the deal so it's not a lot it's not a lot but where is
41:46it i already sold it we got the cash so when are you going to start actually mining the mining we're
41:52hoping to start here in about three days i think we're going to have equipment on there three days
41:59start getting everything set up and a couple days after that we should be washing well i'm proud of you
42:05i'm glad that there's good news and there's something moving forward thanks baby i love you so much
42:10they had a good day but the guys still aren't gold mining they have to break the news to mitch their
42:17investor good morning gentlemen how are you mitch has sunk 150 000 into george and scott's second
42:25mining trip to ghana give me a quick overview of what's going on down there obviously things didn't
42:31start off the way we hoped we found chinese miners on this site they have our site you've got to be kidding
42:38no no but now we've got a great site with great guys close to us we've got some good momentum going
42:43right now we're hoping that it continues that's basically the bottom line i mean we just got to
42:47come straight out and tell you um you you can't call and say oh we got this we got this major problem
42:55this major problem so you got to fix your flipping major problems you're blowing through your investment
43:00capital so get the thing operational and start making some money before we pull the plug and you
43:06you won't even have a ticket to come home scott and george's radical plan to find gold in ghana
43:14has to start paying soon we gotta figure this out or the guys will return home to the states in even
43:20even worse financial shape than when they left
