00:00We get a phone call from China. This took place this morning. It's kind of an odd
00:04headline that we have going. And it landed on the same day that Howard Lutnick, the Commerce
00:08Secretary, joined Bloomberg Surveillance to talk about export controls when it comes to China,
00:13whether or not to sell Blackwells or other high-end AI chips, maybe the H200, which is
00:18reportedly being considered inside the White House. Here's what Lutnick said to us a bit
00:21earlier today. Do you want to sell China some chips and keep them using our tech and our tech
00:29stack? Or do you say to them, look, we're not going to sell you our best chips. We're just
00:34going to hold off on that. And we're going to compete in the AI race ourselves. So that
00:39is the question. It's in front of the president. He's going to decide. It's a really, really
00:43interesting question. He's got all the information. He's got lots and lots of experts talking to
00:48him. And he's going to decide which way he wants to go forward.
00:52It would be a huge deal, obviously, for NVIDIA. But President Xi apparently was pressing President
00:58Trump on the status of Taiwan, urged him to maintain improved ties, and had a conversation
01:05about China's relationship with Japan. What do we make of the timing of this call today?
01:12I mean, you know, as Secretary Lutnick said, you've got a couple of different
01:16elements that could be influencing the timing. The president wants to wrap up trade talks as well.
01:24Usually there's a big drumbeat leading up to a meeting like that.
01:27Often there is, and you'll have sort of a sequence of meetings with additional officials,
01:32you know, at the working level, at the cabinet level, and so on. But, you know, this could
01:36signal the urgency, perhaps for Beijing, in, you know, both in addressing the status of
01:42Taiwan, you know, trying to influence the president's conversations, perhaps with Japan as well.
01:51So, let's go to어야 an opportunity with it.
01:54So, thank you.
