00:00So this is a trial and a case and a story that has fascinated so many people, but we're not in the courtroom, right? There's no camera, there's no audio. You've been there every day. So tell me, what's it been like to sit in that room?
00:16Yeah, so there's only 34 members of the press and the public that are allowed in the courtroom. It's very limited seating. Elizabeth Holmes has been there every single day, often accompanied by her mother and her partner in the courtroom. At times, pretty in the weeds, right, about the technology, about, you know, what investors were told, what patients were told, sort of what the company claimed to be doing versus in reality, sort of what witnesses testified to.
00:46Well, let's talk about the person at the center of all of this, Elizabeth Holmes. What has it been like hearing her testimony?
00:54The defense called her to the stand, right? And I think everybody in the courtroom was sort of surprised that she was being called. She was called during the last hour when court was in session on a Friday, right, after a really long week.
01:08During her testimony, it was really interesting. Initially, when she took the stand, she was pretty smiley, which was kind of surprising to see. You know, this is somebody who's facing, you know, a possibly pretty hefty prison sentence.
01:19So, you know, these charges are significant against her. And she was smiling. Now, that kind of took a turn throughout the course of her testimony. Most notably, we saw her get emotional on the stand.
01:34And that was really a side of Elizabeth Holmes that we've not seen before. You know, we've always seen this sort of composed, confident person.
01:43And here she was getting teary-eyed, kind of choked up, and her face kind of grew flushed as she was talking about the alleged abuse that she experienced at the hands of Theranos' former COO, who was also her boyfriend at the time when he worked at the company.
02:00So, taking a step back, after all this testimony that you've seen in all of these days, what has surprised you most from this case?
02:10Seeing Elizabeth Holmes and her presence, kind of hearing her on the stand and how she speaks about the company, her time there, after so much time has passed, you know, it's been more than three years since she was first indicted, has been really kind of just fascinating for me.
02:27She's sort of been a fascinating character over the years.
02:31To see kind of her charisma on display, to see sort of what she brought to probably investor meetings and to board meetings is really interesting.
02:42And I think it's also been really surprising to hear her talk about her relationship with Sunny Balwani.
02:49This was a relationship that they largely kept secret.
02:52People did not know they were in a relationship, you know, investors, board members.
02:57Didn't know, and it's been really interesting to hear her kind of speak about what she claims was the true kind of nature, what people didn't see behind closed doors.
