00:00Gina Carano is suing Disney and Lucasfilm over her being fired from The Mandalorian in 2021.
00:06Carano filed a complaint on Tuesday in California Federal Court for discrimination and wrongful
00:11termination and alleges she was fired for voicing right-wing opinions on social media.
00:16Elon Musk, who made a promise to foot the legal bill for users who claim they have been
00:20discriminated against due to their activity on his platform, is helping fund the suit through X.
00:25In a statement, X's head of business operations Joe Bedrock said,
00:29we're proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano's lawsuit,
00:33empowering her to seek vindication for her free speech rights on X.
00:37Lucasfilm in 2021 announced that Carano would not be returning to the hit series
00:41after sharing a long string of posts seen as right-wing,
00:45in which she previously mocked government mandates to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic,
00:50and falsely suggested that voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.
00:55While she was allegedly fired for her cultural and religious beliefs,
00:58Carano argues in the complaint that the entertainment giant turned a blind eye to
01:02her male co-stars, who allegedly made offensive posts directed towards Republicans.
01:07She points to Pedro Pascal's 2017 post, comparing former President Donald Trump to Hitler.
01:13She seeks a court order that would force Lucasfilm to recast her,
01:17and at least $75,000 plus punitive damages.
