00:00Such a fan of yours, especially after that Grammys performance.
00:03What was it like working with Cardi B?
00:05It was amazing.
00:06You know, she was so gracious.
00:07She really told everyone on the team that she wanted me to have my moment in music and fashion.
00:12I don't think there are a lot of female artists out there who would have been willing to share the stage with me like that.
00:17It was really incredible, and the camera really focused on you for a long time
00:21because it was just so profound watching you in that gorgeous outfit.
00:26Looking back and reflecting on the moment, I mean, what was going through your mind at that time?
00:30You know, when I came off the stage, I actually was like, oh my God, what did I do?
00:33Because I hadn't done that during rehearsals.
00:35The camera wasn't there, like it kind of went wide during the sound check.
00:38So I was like, I looked at the camera really hard.
00:41I was like, oh my God, like, was it okay?
00:44But it was like, yeah, so I was scared and I just kind of black out when I'm on stage
00:47and I was just feeding off the energy of the audience.
00:49I was like, jobs, jobs, like I need jobs, you know, I want like, so that was pretty much my energy.
00:55And then post-Grammys, just what has life been like since?
00:58Have you gotten those jobs?
00:59What's coming up for you?
01:00Yeah, it's crazy.
01:01I always joke that like Saturday night, like, you know, like I was just like myself
01:05and doing that Saturday night was the same person as I was Monday morning.
01:08But then Monday morning, I have like, you know, I'm doing a whole concert with the Boston Pops
01:11and I'm doing Vancouver Symphony is doing a whole program around me.
01:15And it's like, those are kind of opportunities that like, you know, only came up because of the Grammys.
01:19And it's like so exciting to see like young people wanting to be involved in instrumental music
01:23and young people being excited about instrumental music.
01:26So I'm really happy about that.
01:27And the Boston Pops.
01:28That's you.
01:29I literally have goosebumps.
01:30I know.
01:31And they're letting me play Crossover because my upcoming album is going to be Beats and Piano.
01:35And so it's being produced by Tommy Brown and Anthony Jones.
01:39He did, Tommy did Seven Rings and Thank You Next.
01:41And he's doing my whole album and they're letting me play like trap and hip hop beats with the orchestra.
01:47So it's going to be cool.
01:48When did you discover the ability to cross over like that and kind of take that plunge?
01:52Well, I've been wanting to do it for nine years.
01:54I signed with Babyface in 2010 and I was trying to do it since then.
01:58And I was like, oh, I'm not going to release a project until I'm excited about it, until I like it.
02:02And so it's taken me this long to really get here.
02:05I met Simon Cowell and he's like, I was like, I just signed with Babyface and like, you know, I'm going to be a star.
02:09And he was like, see you in 10 years. It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.
02:12So like, I literally am like 10 years next year.
02:15I mean, Simon knows best.
02:17Right? He was really right. I was like, yeah, whatever.
02:20Are there any artists that you'd love to work with?
02:22I would love to work with Drake.
02:24So I've been trying to do that for a while because his music is really great for me in terms of the piano.
02:30His music is like, it's like, it could be a really cool collaboration.
02:34And with his voice and the way that he raps, I think it could be cool.
02:37Thank you so much. Great chatting with you.
