00:27:21didn't suddenly get all desperate to dance with someone you just held your own I
00:27:25thought that I think that shows great strength of character and great
00:27:29strength of performance I think this is one of your best dancers
00:27:37I would have liked to have seen smoother weight changes and
00:27:44it's true it's true but all your lovely forward Ocho's I could see you were
00:27:49working on those because you had a lovely smooth and sweep pass through of the
00:27:53foot on that and I think this style actually suits you really really well
00:27:59well Linda I mean in my books it says you are our comeback queen I just have to mention it this is
00:28:08really the story this is the story your story for Strictly Come Dancing and another day where I can learn something from someone else that you come back every time stronger that is what I love this was honestly the opening so good when you were up there you were in the mood you were so
00:28:29clear with your intention you were so defined I absolutely love that I also love that everybody chucked you around left and right but you kept your cool I didn't see you panicking

00:57:55Alex has been reflecting on her life, career,
00:57:57and Strictly adventure so far.

00:58:03This week, I'm doing Couples' Choice in Blackpool.

00:58:08When I was little, the first thing I wanted to be,
00:58:11obviously, was a princess.
00:58:12Then a barrister.
00:58:14Then I realised I just wanted to wear the costume.
00:58:17Maybe I actually want to be an actor.
00:58:20ER came calling, and it changed my life.
00:58:23It really was a family.
00:58:26And I stayed for 22 years.
00:58:29Los Angeles and ER have been a colossal,
00:58:32definitive part of her life,
00:58:34and to leave them behind was not straightforward.
00:58:36It wasn't easy.
00:58:37Welcome to the breakfast club.
00:58:41The major factors in coming back.
00:58:46My daughter was born in America.
00:58:49I had finished ER.
00:58:51I had met my husband, Jonathan.
00:58:53I'd started commuting to do Doctor Who.
00:58:56And Jonathan was doing a very long commute to LA.
00:58:59And there's a point at which you just go,
00:59:01we need to be together.
00:59:03Jonathan is just the most incredible human being.
00:59:08He gets me in a way that nobody else really has.
00:59:12He writes me poetry,
00:59:14and he also will learn a poem,
00:59:17and then just recite it to me.
00:59:20You remember from our wedding?
00:59:21Oh, my gosh.
00:59:22It had become a fairy girl
00:59:24with blossoms in her golden hair,
00:59:26who called me by her name,
00:59:29then ran and faded through the brightening air.
00:59:31I'm insanely proud of her.
00:59:38And it's extraordinary to me to think
00:59:41that only a year ago,
00:59:44Alex was really not well.
00:59:47I was diagnosed with a uterine cancer.
00:59:51I had to go in and have a full hysterectomy.
00:59:55Then they found out that the cancer had moved.
00:59:58I had to have radiotherapy.
01:00:00So coming off the back of that,
01:00:03getting the all clear,
01:00:04I decided that I would do Strictly.
01:00:07When I watch her dance,
01:00:08I think, you know,
01:00:09thank you for being so brave.

01:00:17It's just an incredible gift
01:00:18that I will take with me
01:00:20till the end of my days.
01:00:22I think what makes Alex special
