00:00From the Pep and Teller Theatre at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, here's our host, Brooke
00:23Burr.
00:30Welcome to Fool Us.
00:38Seeing is believing, but you might not believe what you're about to see.
00:42We've got four magicians with their eyes on the prize, and I spy a challenge.
00:47Let's see what happens as we welcome the sharpest eyes in magic, Penn and Teller!
01:00Keep your eyes peeled for a magician to fool Penn and Teller because if they do, you'll
01:17see them win a Fool Us trophy and a spot in Penn and Teller's Vegas show.
01:21Maybe we'll see our first magician do it.
01:22I am the Shocker, and I am known for bringing the biggest, most outrageous things to fool
01:31us with Penn and Teller.
01:32But there is one thing I've never been able to do.
01:38That's actually Fool Us.
01:39But this time, I'm bringing some help.
01:45The craziest, most outrageous, most twisted mind in magic.
01:52This is Bizarro, the optical illusionist.
01:54For this man, normal is just a setting on the dryer.
01:58He doesn't say much, but he doesn't have to.
02:01He's going to let his actions speak for us.
02:05And now, we're going to bring our insanity to Penn and Teller.
02:10Penn and Teller, you might have been able to beat the Shocker, but you're not going to
02:14beat Shock and Bizarre.
02:17We're going to fool you or die trying.
02:21Here comes one dangerous magic duo, Shock and Bizarre.
02:32And we're going to be able to hear you!
02:39There are a few things I've always wanted to do in magic since I was a little Shocker.
02:45Appear on Fool Us with every single host.
02:49I'm so happy to have you here and it's so finely nice to meet you.
02:53Nice to meet you, too.
02:54And performed the first stage illusion I ever saw.
02:58Now, the first one I saw wasn't done by a magician.
03:01It was done by a rock star.
03:03I saw Alice Cooper live on stage.
03:07Any Alice Cooper fans in the audience?
03:12Get your prostate checked.
03:14It's time.
03:15That Alice took out a six-foot-tall guillotine live on stage.
03:24This is the one I had.
03:25It consists of a stock and a blade.
03:28Anything that goes inside the stock is then taken care of by the blade.
03:34Now, we need someone to play the part of Alice.
03:37Brooke.
03:38Can I borrow you for a little bit here?
03:39Yeah.
03:40Absolutely.
03:42Hi.
03:43Place that on your right hand if you will.
03:45Okay.
03:46Because Brooke is going to play the part of Alice Cooper for her.
03:50So cool.
03:51Let's play with that.
03:52There we go.
03:53Alice Cooper.
03:54So they raised the blade of the guillotine up.
03:59They slid Alice Cooper inside.
04:03Uh-oh.
04:04Oh, no.
04:05Now, Brooke, I can tell you're a little bit nervous.
04:06Always.
04:07There's no reason to be nervous.
04:08If anything is to go wrong, Bizarro is actually contracted with one of the local hospitals to get a state-of-the-art cryogenic freezing chamber that if any body part is to come off, they are going to place it inside, rush it to the hospital, and reattach it in plenty of time.
04:23Last time we did it, the guy even told us to keep the tip.
04:28Now, Brooke, the music started to swell.
04:34The monsters started to growl, and then they dropped that blade straight through Alice's neck.
04:40And he remained completely unharmed.
04:48Thank you for helping me out, Brooke.
04:51You're welcome.
04:52And that was the version I got to do when I was starting out.
04:58But then I got better.
05:00And I can afford bigger toys.
05:11Thank you, Ralph.
05:36Count it down with me!
05:38Three!
05:40Two!
05:42One!
05:58Ow!
06:06One!
06:36One!
06:38One!
06:40One!
07:00One!
08:04Okay.
08:09How long have you two been working together?
08:17Oh, don't answer.
08:19Oh, no, no, no.
08:20Don't answer that.
08:22Ten years.
08:23Okay.
08:24Do you ever speak?
08:25Do you ever speak?
08:26No.
08:27All right, Bizarro.
08:31Let's find out if you fooled Penn and Teller.
08:34Oh, how you doing, Bizarro?
08:35I got to tell you, Brooke, these are two of our favorite people in the world.
08:40Bizarro and Shocker are just two of the best.
08:43And when we saw their names pop up, our hearts leapt with joy.
08:47And I got to tell you, this is very emotional for us because I also saw the Alice Cooper guillotine.
08:55And the method you're using on the guillotine is exactly the method Alice used.
09:02And Alice is a friend of ours.
09:03And when we first met Amazing Randy, who, as you know, or maybe you don't know, was one of our most important mentors.
09:11We also designed all the magic tricks for Alice Cooper.
09:15And when I was 19 years old and first met Teller, we were invited over to Amazing Randy's house.
09:24We walked in and there were nothing but Alice Cooper heads all over there.
09:30Because Randy was working on that tour then and had all these perfect casts of Alice Cooper's head.
09:37One of the most thrilling moments of my life.
09:40And the guillotine that was actually used in the Alice Cooper show that Shocker saw, we now own.
09:48We have the actual guillotine.
09:53So we may know a little bit about how it works.
09:56But it is the best use of the daylight seance gimmick we have ever seen in our lives.
10:04So Bizarro, Shocker, two of our favorites.
10:07But we own the damn prop.
10:09What do you expect?
10:16Well, it's pretty clear that they know how the trick was done, eh, Bizarro?
10:21What's going to happen to Shocker?
10:29Shocker Bizarro, everyone!
10:32That was fantastic!
10:33Ken and Teller have more tricks to figure out before closing the show with a trick of their own.
10:39So stay close.
10:40When people say something is impossible, I see it as a challenge.
10:51My journey in magic started when I was 24, performing on the street out of my Volkswagen.
11:12I fought for the attention of my audience and I fought for tips.
11:16And in the process, I fell in love with magic.
11:19In 2007, I opened Europe's first close-up theater in Munich.
11:24They told me it was a crazy idea.
11:26But I did it anyway.
11:27It's now become a sanctuary for people who loves magic.
11:30Once, during a rehearsal, I fell five meters, smashing my elbow.
11:35Doctors said I'd never perform again.
11:38But with surgery and therapy, I made the impossible possible and regained the use of my arm.
11:46Performing in America for the first time makes me nervous.
11:49The language barrier.
11:50The pressure.
11:51But I love it.
11:53Will I fool Penn and Teller tonight?
11:55Remember, nothing is impossible.
11:58You just have to find the right solution.
12:00All the way from Germany, give it up for Alexander Kreis.
12:13Hello.
12:13Hello.
12:14My first definition of mental magic is that I can change thoughts.
12:19You thought.
12:20I show you what I mean, okay?
12:22In my hand, I hold her.
12:24You can see what it is.
12:25Of course, it's a bonzig ball.
12:28But you're really sure about that.
12:32Because now I will change your mind.
12:35Normally magicians, you spell abracadabra.
12:37Mental magic, no, no, that is necessary.
12:41Just a moment.
12:43It's enough to change.
12:53That was it.
12:58My second definition of mental magic is I know what happens in the future.
13:06I show you what I mean, okay?
13:08I have two boxes here on stage.
13:10And these boxes are predictions.
13:13Please, help me.
13:15I would love to.
13:17Hello.
13:17Hi.
13:18How are you?
13:18You see?
13:19I have five balloons here, okay?
13:22Okay.
13:23Now it's your turn.
13:24You can make decisions, okay?
13:26Okay.
13:27Your job is to eliminate the first balloon by cutting the string.
13:32Okay.
13:33Which color you want to cut?
13:35Okay.
13:36And you want me to cut the string?
13:38Yes.
13:38Anywhere?
13:39Please.
13:41Okay.
13:42Okay.
13:42You ready?
13:43Yes.
13:44So wet one.
13:45Good choice.
13:46So wet.
13:47Oh, good choice.
13:49For the second, you can decide who chose the color.
13:53Pen, teller, or yourself?
13:56Pen.
13:57Pen.
13:58Which color you want?
13:59Purple.
14:00Purple?
14:00Okay.
14:01The second balloon is purple.
14:02Okay.
14:04And the third balloon.
14:06Who chose the color?
14:09Okay.
14:10Pen, teller?
14:11Teller.
14:12Teller.
14:12What do you want?
14:13White.
14:15This one?
14:15This one?
14:16This is your turn.
14:17Okay.
14:17You ready?
14:18Yes.
14:19White.
14:19This is so pink.
14:21Wow.
14:22Now we have 50-50, okay?
14:25We have orange and black.
14:28This is your choice.
14:30My choice?
14:31Yes.
14:32Uh, I'm going to go with my favorite color, orange.
14:37Okay.
14:37Ready?
14:38Yes.
14:40Beautiful moment.
14:41Yes, black one.
14:45This is the last balloon here on stage, correct?
14:48Yes.
14:49Yes.
14:49If you had made a different decision, then we would have a different result, correct?
14:54Correct.
14:55I say, I know, I know the future, correct?
14:58He said that.
14:59Ladies and gentlemen, please come to me and this box, okay?
15:06Here is the balloon inside.
15:08Come to me.
15:08Okay.
15:09We take the balloon, this looks nice, huh?
15:11Okay.
15:12Here is black.
15:12Okay.
15:13And here is also, this is a black balloon.
15:17Yeah.
15:18Yeah.
15:18I have two boxes here on stage, correct?
15:26Yes.
15:26This is first prediction.
15:28Here is the second prediction, correct?
15:29Correct.
15:30I hope so.
15:31Okay.
15:31Yes.
15:32Okay.
15:33You can go to the box, please.
15:37And you can, looking inside.
15:41This always makes me nervous.
15:42Yes.
15:43But okay.
15:43You can, looking inside.
15:45Okay.
15:45Is there a prediction inside?
15:47Take it off.
15:49The box off.
15:49Okay.
15:50You see my second prediction.
15:51I do.
15:52Take the tube.
15:53Okay.
15:54Yes.
15:55Come to me back.
15:56Okay.
15:57Yes.
15:59Very carefully.
16:00Yeah.
16:01Perfect.
16:02Okay.
16:02This tube is really solid.
16:05Really?
16:05Yes.
16:06Both sides are closed.
16:07Yes.
16:07Nothing funny here.
16:08Should I open it?
16:09Yes.
16:12Okay.
16:12The paper.
16:13Yes.
16:13Take the paper out.
16:14Okay.
16:16Got it.
16:16Oh, I love this moment.
16:18You do?
16:19You remember?
16:20Uh.
16:21The first balloon you want to cut was?
16:25Red.
16:26So red.
16:26Correct.
16:27Okay.
16:28Okay.
16:28You look.
16:29This is the left hand here, please.
16:30Okay.
16:31This is the right hand here.
16:32Okay.
16:32And the first balloon was?
16:34Okay.
16:34First was?
16:36First was?
16:36Red.
16:37So red was?
16:37Wow.
16:39Yes.
16:40Very good.
16:42Amazing.
16:43Pen, you say which color?
16:45I said purple, so.
16:47Purple.
16:47You did.
16:47And the second one?
16:49Pen.
16:49Pen.
16:50Pen.
16:50Pen.
16:51Say?
16:52Purple.
16:52Yes.
16:53Purple.
16:53Yes.
16:54Yes.
16:54So tell her, you say?
16:59And look, tell her, say?
17:03White.

17:24Thank you very much.
17:25Thank you very much.
17:26Thank you very much.
17:27Thank you very much.
17:29Thank you very much.
17:30Thank you very much.
17:31How could you go about deciding which
17:34act would be right for us tonight on this show?
17:40Oh, um, this is all my own, um, creation.
17:45This is an original trick?
17:46Yes, this isn't.
17:47Wow.
17:48For me is, um, magic is, is, is art, and I love to create my own tricks, and I show
17:56my own tricks in my, uh, in my show in Munich, and this is what I love in magic.
18:03This is my first time, um, I perform here in USA, and this is the first time in English.
18:08This is your first time.
18:09This is my first time in English.
18:14I learned six.
18:15You're fantastic.
18:16I learned eight, six, eight weeks every day in English, and...
18:21Well, we love having an original trick on this stage, so let's see if you fooled Penn and
18:26Teller.
18:26Okay.
18:27Are we ready?
18:28Yes.
18:29Good luck.
18:32Great job.
18:34Oh my goodness, Alexander.
18:38Uh, that, uh, I, uh, uh...
18:41I like it!
18:43That's a good start.
18:47You floored us with the egg trick.
18:49We were floored with that, and then it just keeps going.
18:53Um, it just keeps going, and we have, uh, we have some idea how you must, uh, the craftsmanship...
19:08Are those moans or noises, Coach?
19:12My voice is cracking with emotion.
19:14Um...
19:15I've never seen this happen before.
19:16Yeah, I...
19:17You're starting to act like Teller.
19:18Yeah, I...
19:19We need to...
19:23We need to...
19:25This is a mercy killing.
19:26You fooled us.
19:27Oh!
19:28Oh!
19:29Oh!
19:30Oh!
19:31Oh!
19:32Oh!
19:33Oh!

19:49Oh!
19:50Oh!
19:51Come on in here, boys.
19:52It's super cool.
19:53Alexander Kreese!
19:54Wow!
19:55Penn and Teller gave away a Fool Us trophy.
19:59See more magicians take on P&T after the break.
20:02Oh!
20:03Oh!
20:04Oh!
20:05Oh!
20:06Oh!
20:07Oh!
20:08Oh!
20:09Oh!
20:10Oh!
20:11Oh!
20:12Oh!
20:17Welcome back.
20:18Penn and Teller have already been fooled once tonight.
20:20Let's see if this next magician can make it too.
20:23I have been on Penn and Teller three times.
20:28And I've never fooled Penn and Teller, but my animals have.
20:32We've taken home three trophies.
20:34First, they were fooled by my chicken.
20:36Then they were fooled by my snake.
20:38And then they were fooled by my hamster.
20:41Hamsaris.
20:42Penn and Teller know I go through great lengths to find smart and exotic animals.
20:48They'll be ready for even the most obscure animal act.
20:51I've searched the planet, explored the pages of history.
20:55And now I must go back even further to something primordial.
21:00To the very beginning.
21:02So for tonight's trick, I've decided to put my eggs in a basket I know and trust.
21:08What better way to fool Penn and Teller than with the second order of chicken.
21:14Penn and Teller, now is your chance for redemption.
21:17Or will you be fooled again by a chicken?
21:28Here with the world's greatest mind-reading chicken,
21:31it's your old friend, three-time Fool Us winner, Yoda Rick.
21:39Hi, Penn and Teller.
21:41Since last time we've been here, Curry has picked up her mental abilities.
21:45She can now read anybody's mind.
21:48Let's start with Brooke.
21:49Brooke, can you take your purse and join us on stage?
21:52Sure.
21:53Brooke.
21:54Hi.
21:55Hi.
21:56Can you feel that?
21:57Okay.
21:58Hello.
21:59Hi, Brooke.
22:00Hi.
22:01Oh.
22:02Oh, hi.
22:03Curry really likes you.
22:04Oh, he does?
22:05She would like you to get a high five.
22:06Can you please do like this?
22:07Sure.
22:08Cool.
22:10That is cool.
22:13Brooke, only say yes or no.
22:14Did you bring one of these four items in your purse?
22:17Yes.
22:18Cool.
22:19In a moment, I would like you to select one.
22:21Hide it in the cup and then place it under Curry's motivational bucket.
22:27Okay.
22:30Hide it and when you're finished, give me a loud yes.
22:32Curry, don't look.
22:34Okay.
22:35Okay.
22:42Okay.
22:43I'm placing it in the cup and I'm covering it with the bucket.
22:49Cool.
22:50It's time for Curry to read your mind.
22:53Really?
22:54Okay.
22:55Brooke, think about your selection and then look into her eyes.
23:02Does he think about this?
23:03Oh, yeah.
23:04did you miss?
23:05Oh, yeah?
23:06Yeah.
23:07Oh, yeah.
23:08Oh.
23:09She's got it.
23:10No.
23:11Curry.
23:13What was Brooke thinking about?
23:25A credit card.
23:27Can you please show us that you indeed think about a credit card?
23:30Curry Sharers!
23:32Well done.
23:34Now, it is time for Curry to read everybody's mind.
23:40You all may select one of these objects.
23:43Oh, no, wait.
23:45She likes to step it up.
23:47You can select one of these 18 items.
23:51Brooke, in a moment, Curry is going to show us what people are thinking about.
23:56Every time she picks on something, can you please name it out loud?
24:00Yes.
24:02All right.
24:03And, Penn, can you select somebody from the audience?
24:07How about that guy?
24:10Right there.
24:11All right.
24:12Perfect.
24:13Hello, sir.
24:14In a moment, Curry is going to read your mind.
24:16Okay?
24:17I want you to select one of the objects on the board.
24:19You can have a stand.
24:21Cool.
24:22Great.
24:23You have one in your mind?
24:24Big time.
24:25Yes.
24:26Really think about it.
24:27Focus on it.
24:28Oh, there's some mental powers coming out there.
24:30That's very strong.
24:31I think really strong.
24:33Oh, the necklace.
24:35A necklace.
24:36Did you think about the necklace?
24:37Great time.
24:38Yes.
24:39Great.
24:40Curry.
24:41Curry.
24:42Tell her, can you please join us on stage?
24:46Brooke, thank you so much.
24:48You've been amazing.
24:49Brooke, thank you.
24:50Thank you so much.
24:51Hello, tell her.
24:52Hi.
24:53Nice to see you again.
24:54Oh, Curry is already picking up on something.
24:58You think she has some hidden devices.
25:03You can check everything.
25:05Everything's clear.

30:12Please welcome Buddhist monk and master magician Gotayishi
30:24ナムミョウレンゲーキョウ
30:40My name is Gotayashi, a real monk.
30:45Buddhism and magic are very similar in imagination.
30:52This is a Buddhist bell,
30:55which produces a delightful sound.
31:01We ring this bell during our rituals.
31:06Let's try.
31:07Beautiful.
31:11Now, let's cover this.
31:15Listen.
31:16The sound becomes smaller and smaller inside.
31:21Imagine.
31:23Not just the sound.
31:26This is the magic of imagination.
31:37Buddhism is very strict.
31:40They won't allow you to have playing cards or coins.
31:46So instead, I use these.
31:51Imagine.
31:54Here.
31:55I imagine.
31:59Hop.
32:01A red ball.
32:03With my magic.
32:05Hop.
32:06Now, two balls.
32:09One last time.
32:12Hop.
32:13Now, three balls.
32:16One ball.
32:21Two balls.
32:24Two cups.
32:26Two balls.
32:30Usually, I'm a monk.
32:32But today, I'm a monk-gician.
32:36One ball.
32:37One ball.
32:42Two balls.
32:43In the cap.
32:47One ball.
32:50Two.
32:52Now, they move.
32:54It's imagination.
33:01Now, this one disappears and this one moves.
33:07This time, I will show you the moment when they move.
33:16Watch.
33:18Three, two, one.
33:20Oh, sorry.
33:23It moved.
33:24But not the balls.
33:26The cups.
33:27Okay.
33:28Again.
33:30Three, two, one.
33:33And it moves.
33:35Thank you very much.
33:36Thank you very much.
33:44Now, I will put the inside of my tamoto.
33:48Not the pocket.
33:49Tamoto.
33:50But imagine, imagine it coming back.
33:54Hop.
33:55Then, it will come back.
33:58But remember, there are two balls, not one.
34:05Again, hop.
34:07But this time, in between the cups.
34:12Just like Buddhism, requires individual imagination.
34:24This time, watch with your imagination.
34:29Hop.
34:30Hop.
34:30Hop.
34:31Hop.
34:32Hop.
34:34Hup!
34:40Hup!
34:42Hup!
35:52Remember, the ball was just a stick for the Olin hop.
36:00This is the last imagination.
36:03I have to ask you, are you the only monk-gician?
36:25Yes.
36:27I thought so.
36:30Can you tell me a little bit about your university and what that was like?
36:34What is the most challenging part about being a magician for you?
36:51Yes.
36:52I think that's why I am here.
36:53I think that's why I am here.
36:54I feel like a magician is hiding.
36:57But I think that's why I am not even going to be a magician.
37:01I still have my thoughts.
37:31a depth and a pensive quality that the cups and balls always needed and that americans really
37:38don't bother doing uh we've gone so far into the witty and so far away from just the beauty
37:45of the absolute magic now we've done a lot of cups and balls we also know there's a there's
37:51a little bit of a language problem so we're certainly not going to try to give you code words
37:57into a language that we don't know so we'll just we'll just table the thought of that and talk
38:02about just how much we loved your performance how honored we are to have you here and thank you so
38:09much but we don't think you fooled us because we do the cups and balls a lot i'm glad they spared you
38:17from the code words
38:23what's how you should do they know how you did your trick they got me
38:29it was wonderful to have you what a beautiful app thank you thank you so much
38:47down pen and teller we're done testing you tonight why don't you perform your own magic trick right
38:54after this quick break
39:08welcome back we can't say good night without spending some time with our fabulous host so give
39:13it up for pen and teller
39:18you know uh we've said on the show a zillion times we love being fooled we love that feeling of having
39:24no idea how something was done we have to confess that once in a while we like figuring them out too
39:31there's something wonderful about sitting watching a trick and all of a sudden having
39:35aha all of a sudden aha pops into our head and we realize how the trick is being done now people watch
39:41this show for all different reasons some people watch it you just see the greatest magicians in
39:46the world do their tricks and they're done other people watch it to learn magic and they'll see a
39:50trick and it's true brooke if you go to the internet and search enough every trick on here you can find
39:55out how it's done and learn magic and that's wonderful and other people watch for just that aha
40:02to see if they can figure something out watching it once and here's one you can figure out you can get
40:08the aha now teller has a prediction here okay yeah there's a few rules here the prediction won't
40:14change there's no magic thing built in here and the other rule is that brooke we haven't set this up
40:20you don't know what we're gonna do this is all completely honest and you can figure it out we've
40:25set it up here kind of like a syllogism we have a b and c we have a which is apple okay we have b
40:32which is banana and we have c which is carrot so just give me one of those would you please brooke
40:42banana banana okay good and then uh pick another one carrot okay yeah and then just take the apple
40:54i'll take the apple okay you had a free choice on all those things didn't you i did i did now watch this
40:59you can figure this out there's the prediction that teller's been holding would you read it please
41:06i have the apple yeah you have the banana yep and the carrot is in the bag and the carrot is in the
41:13bag okay what and to figure this out you got to know that teller did all the magic and you can figure
41:19it out and you can get in
41:27i guess tonight was destined to be amazing and i predict that our next show will also be a fantastic
