00:00Matt is about to head out on the Build for Off-Road Adventure Ride.
00:03We want to make sure he makes it there safely.
00:05So today we outfit the tow vehicle and do a little maintenance to the trailer.
00:14Welcome to Truck U.
00:15Now, Bruno, you know of something really cool that I get to do here.
00:18Usually you get to do cool stuff, and this time I get to.
00:21It's the Build for Off-Road Adventure Ride,
00:23with Ian's going to be a part of that as the host of Build for Off-Road.
00:26Willie B is going to be on that from Two Guys Garage.
00:28Yeah, you know Willie B.
00:29We go way back.
00:30Oh, yeah, yeah, Willie.
00:31We're going out to California to do some trail riding,
00:33and that's a long trip, though.
00:35And I'm taking off like right after we get done with this.
00:38And that's a long trip, so I know you're concerned about my safety
00:40because we've got years and years of television.
00:42I'm actually more concerned about other people on the road
00:43with you driving all the way out there.
00:45That's kind of funny, but I know you're worried about your boy.
00:48So we've checked a couple things out on the truck, right?
00:50And everything checks out.
00:51Tires, engine, we're good with that, right?
00:52Yeah, no, yeah, the truck's sound is sweet.
00:54Okay, so we're good to go for that one.
00:55For now, I just hope it comes back in this kind of condition.
00:57I think it will.
00:57More of a concern.
00:58Well, what could possibly go wrong with us going out to the other coast
01:02and going desert riding for like a week, right?
01:05So here's the big thing that we have to talk about today, though,
01:07is one, we've got that 38-foot trailer because we're hauling two buggies out there.
01:10That's a long trailer.
01:11That is.
01:12That is.
01:12So you've got the dupli-color buggy on there and Willie B's, right?
01:15So we'll look at the...
01:16Well, you want to make sure you check the bearings on that thing, right?
01:18Make sure that the lights work, you've got the brakes, all that kind of stuff.
01:22Obviously, the tires need to be sound because you don't want to be dragging that thing going down the road.
01:25See, I told you he was worried about my safety.
01:28Now, the other thing that we have to concentrate on is storage, and I've got a couple things.
01:31I've got a tonneau cover and a rack for this thing.
01:33Oh, nice.
01:34Okay, that would be super coming handy.
01:36So mechanically, we're good.
01:37I'm going to take your word for it.
01:38I am going to check a couple of things.
01:40Let's get to work on the storage.
01:41All right.
01:41Think about it.
01:43How can I not?
01:43The first order of business when it comes to the storage on the back of this truck is the tonneau cover.
01:50And this is the Realtrex Pro that we got from Realtrex.
01:54And there are a couple different reasons that we wanted to go with this tonneau cover specifically.
01:58You know, it checks all the boxes, right?
02:00The biggest thing is having security and having a place to store everything and not worry about it when you're at a hotel overnight or at a campground or wherever you need to be.
02:07Because this rolls out, locks in place, and it's hard surface.
02:11So you're not going to be able to cut through it like if it was a soft tonneau cover.
02:14And it slides back up, and you have full access to your bed.
02:17The other thing, too, is the T-slot on the top rails of this gives us the ability to build up and put a rack on top so we have additional storage.
02:24Yeah.
02:24Everything all kind of works together with this particular tonneau cover.
02:27Yeah, anybody that's doing that rack, most of them are going with this particular cover just for that reason.
02:32So next thing we need to do is just get this up there and in place.
02:36So I don't think it's too heavy.
02:37You got that side?
02:37We might need to borrow one of these guys.
02:40Come on, Sally.
02:41You got the side.
02:42I got a doctor's note.
02:42I can't lift.
02:43I know.
02:44Oh, that's not bad.
02:47That's not bad.
02:47You know, you got to pick it up.
02:50Ready?
02:51Yeah.
02:52I just don't want to take...
02:54I'm the one holding all the weight over here.
02:59Come on.
02:59Oh.
03:06There we go.
03:07Fingers.
03:08Ah, there we go.
03:11Slide it on there.
03:12Whoa.
03:14And the install is complete.
03:16Well, just about.
03:17That was in real time.
03:18You know that?
03:19Boom.
03:19Nice.
03:36So the goal now is to give us a little extra storage for Matt when he goes out on this adventure ride.
03:40And thanks to the guys at Front Runner, we've got a cool rack that is going to mount just above that tonneau cover
03:45and basically double the amount of storage that we have.
03:47The whole thing is that it kind of works together so to make sure everything's going to be secure and arrive in one piece.
03:52Well, that was one of the points that you mentioned specifically why we got this particular tonneau cover
03:56because it had this channel in here, right?
03:58And this is the channel that is actually going to help mount that rack.
04:00So, I mean, super easy, super simple, just like any other kind of channel mount system.
04:04You got these little pieces that go in there.
04:06Your bracket sits down on this.
04:08And you put the bracket together and boom, boom, boom.
04:10We got infinite adjustability as far as wherever we want to put it.
04:13There's more storage on the storage too, which is cool.
04:16Yeah, you know, those boxes are pretty cool because that's from Front Runner.
04:18It's all kind of like an integrated kit.
04:20So the way they fasten down is pretty neat.
04:22There's a channel system on that as well where they go to.
04:24So you don't actually have to have any kind of bungee cords or other straps going across it.
04:28The whole box will clip right in and be secure to that mount.
04:31Now, you also have space too where if you want to throw a spare tire across the top or a keg or whatever it else you might need out on those trails,
04:39you've got the room to do so and it's going to be accessible because that's going to be at right here at this height.
04:43So everything you mount will still probably stay below the top of the cab.
04:47So it'll be nice and aerodynamic, save you some gas mileage along the way.
04:50I don't hate the keg idea.
04:51So if you want to help do some packing.
04:53So it's rounded too so the window deflects over.
04:55That's right.
04:56If you want to send some little surprise gifts that we'll find out there when we're in the desert,
04:59we're like, oh, Bruno was thinking about us.
05:00That's nice.
05:01Care package.
05:01But yeah, I like the height because a lot of racks go up tall and that's cool.
05:05Those are great.
05:06But I mean, that way we're not sticking way up here.
05:08We can easily access everything.
05:09And again, if we have to slide this back, we can get in there and we've got access to everything.
05:14I don't know what happened up there in the corner.
05:18I don't think that was there earlier.
05:20All right.
05:21I got a fix for that.
05:22Cool.
05:36All right.
05:42Good.
05:42Going down.
05:43Yeah.
05:44All right.
05:45What we need to do is get a tape measure, make sure we got this square and it's not all twisted
05:48and then we can start tightening stuff down.
05:52And going nowhere.
05:57All right.
05:58So we've got about two more of these boxes to lock down, but we need to go to break right now.
06:01When we come back, we've got some work to do on the front end.
06:14Hey, welcome back to Truck U.
06:16We are about ready to send Matt down the road.
06:18But before we do that, I want to make sure that he can see where he's going.
06:22So what we're going to do is pop on a brand new set of windshield wiper blades we got from PowerStop.
06:26These are their PowerClear windshield wiper blades.
06:28Now, if the name sounds familiar, it's because we use PowerStop brakes on just about every vehicle that goes in and out of here.
06:34You know, the thing is with windshield wiper blades, you don't really know when it's time to swap them out until you're in the middle of a 2,500-mile journey and you can't see.
06:41So we're going to take a preemptive strike and put the new ones on.
06:44Now, these wipers feature RealView advanced rubber technology for quiet, long-lasting performance.
06:49The nice thing, too, they come in a package of two.
06:53Believe it or not, a lot of times windshield wiper blades only come as one.
06:55Then you've got to buy the other.
06:56And then it's kind of like a one-size-fits-all.
06:58You've got all these little adapters you've got to play with.
07:00These are specific for your vehicle, and they've got them from all of them.
07:03So no little adapters to mess with.
07:05The right one is on.
07:06You pop them in place, and you are good to go.
07:08All we have to do is clean the windshield first with the little wipe they give us, and we can send Matt down the road.
07:13And they've also got this really cool little indicator right there.
07:15Like, right now, it's black.
07:17But what happens is, as UV light hits it over time, it'll turn yellow.
07:20And then what turns yellow, it's time to put on new windshield wiper blades.
07:25Hey, Bruno, you knocked it out on those windshield wipers, dude.
07:48Great job.
07:49You sit over there, get your massage.
07:50We'll bring you back in here later.
07:52So anyway, here's the deal.
07:54When we go on a long trip like this, you know, we're always bringing tools and replacement parts, and we're always prepared for the big things that might go wrong.
08:01I'm a bit of a preparer myself, but I like to be ready for the little things, the little unexpected things that can go wrong.
08:07And that is why I like to bring JB Weld.
08:09I like to bring the whole product line of it, you know, because they've got all these different JB Welds for different things that can go wrong.
08:14You never know.
08:15Are you going to back into something or something in the crack?
08:17You just have to maybe bond some plastic to plastic.
08:20A hundred different things could go wrong on this trip, and you don't want some little tiny things setting us back.
08:25That's where this comes in.
08:26This is the JB Weld plastic bonder.
08:28This is one of my favorite things to use because it's strong.
08:30It's got a 3770 PSI tensile strength, and it's just good for any number of things that could happen.
08:36It's a great way to bond plastic to plastic or plastic to metal.
08:39It works on fiberglass.
08:40Maybe, like I said, you've got a gap to fill something.
08:43You can do that.
08:44The other cool thing is it works quick.
08:46You're not going to be down long because it's going to set in six minutes, which is probably going to be good enough.
08:50You're just going to leave it like on this trip, but you can just wait an hour, and then you can sand it down when you want to finish it.
08:56So as I said, there's just a hundred different little things that can go wrong, and JB Weld will fix the vast majority of them.
09:02So I love to have that.
09:04So here's the funny thing.
09:05We're not even out of the shop yet, and I've already got a use for it, right?
09:08We noticed this a little bit earlier in the show.
09:10This little piece that goes on the corner, and it covers this seam, these were already popping off, right?
09:16So what's going to happen is if I don't glue that on, if I don't secure that, well, let me get it going the right way.
09:21That's better right there.
09:22I mean, we're going to pull out of here, and that's just going to fly off on the side of the road.
09:25So we don't want that to happen.
09:26So all we got to do, put a little JB Weld on that and glue it down, and that'll be good and strong, and that way that'll make it out west and back.
09:38So once we get it all mixed up, we can lay it in there, and this is one of those applications I was talking about, the plastic to plastic.
09:45So we're just going to go on these little contact points right there.
09:48That's probably all we need.
09:52Leave this here.
09:54Make sure I've got this pointed the right way, which I think I do, and then we'll just line it up and eyeball it.
10:01Boom.
10:02Boom.
10:04That looks good, right?
10:06But I'm going to let that bond, but just to be on the safe side, we're going to a little insurance policy just to kind of hold it in place.
10:17Nothing fancy.
10:19All right.
10:19So that's going to stay right there.
10:21I'll tell you another thing that I really like about the plastic bonder is the fact that it's impact and vibration resistant.
10:26And when you talk about this trip that we're doing here really soon, there's going to be a lot of impact and a lot of vibration, so this is going to come in real handy.
10:35So we've got a big trailer that weighs a pretty good amount by itself, right?
10:38Then we're putting a heavy load on top of that and hauling it all the way across the country.
10:41It's not like you just want to drop it on.
10:43Yeah, exactly.
10:44And I know you want me to return safely.
10:46So you got me this, which I appreciate because we're not just hooking it on this and going and saying, good luck, steal.
10:52Make it back.
10:53Call me when you're back.
10:53It all comes down to the tongue weight on the back of the truck, right?
10:56So the amount of weight that it's actually seeing back here.
10:59So what we've got here really is like the next level in overall hitches, right?
11:02Because it gives us the ability to take some weight off of the back of the truck, the tongue weight.
11:07In this whole system here, it's pretty cool because I've seen the ones you play with before where you just kind of rig it, right?
11:13You've got like a breaker bar and some chains and you kind of pull it up into place.
11:17But this gives you the ability to actually dial it in.
11:18There's a gauge here.
11:19It tells you how much weight is actually on the tongue.
11:22It allows you to adjust it properly so it's safe going down the road.
11:25Well, you were talking about doing that kind of that wheelie or sitting either way.
11:29Right.
11:29You know, that's an easy thing to adjust if there's one thing on the trailer.
11:32You just shift your load back and forth.
11:34Done.
11:35Make sure everything's good and level.
11:36But it does get a little bit more complicated when there are multiple things on the trailer.
11:39And again, I know you're worried about my safety and I appreciate that.
11:42So we'll go ahead and get this on, get it hooked up to the trailer, and then we've got some trailer maintenance that we have to do too.
11:47So we'll just bring it.
11:48How long is it?
11:4838 feet?
11:49It's really long.
11:50Yeah, we'll just bring it right in here.
11:51Yeah, I don't think it's going to fit.
11:52We'll get whatever we can through that door.
11:54Right through that door.
11:55As much of it, yeah.
11:56All six or seven feet of it.
11:57We'll just get the back part of it in.
11:59It'll be fine.
11:59That's fine.
12:25Hey, welcome back to Truck U. As you can see, we've got, well, part of the trailer in the shop.
12:29But it's physically so long, it actually doesn't fit.
12:31I think next time we get you the big trailer, Matt.
12:33Yeah, why not, dude?
12:34If I had a nickel for every time I heard that.
12:37You know, this is a buddy of ours.
12:38Let us borrow it for Matt's little journey here.
12:41You know, the thing is, it's a long trailer.
12:42It's big.
12:43And you want to make sure that you go over something like this before you take it out on a couple thousand mile journey, right?
12:48Yeah, definitely.
12:48You know, you're not familiar with it.
12:49You want to make sure, first of all, the lights work.
12:51And one thing good is he went ahead and rewired all the lights on it.
12:53And the other thing, too, is you want to make sure you have good tires.
12:56And he did that, too.
12:57Check that box.
12:57He got all brand-new tires and two spares.
12:59Yeah.
12:59So, I mean, he took care of pretty much everything.
13:01And then you asked him.
13:02I was laughing about this a little bit earlier.
13:04Bruno was like, did you check the bearings?
13:06And what was his response?
13:07It was a direct quote.
13:08Well, I asked him, you know, when was the last time he serviced it?
13:10You know, service the bearings on this thing.
13:11He goes, oh, you have to service them?
13:13Yeah.
13:13So, at that point, we decided, you know what?
13:15I don't want to get the phone call late at night when he's stuck in the side of a ditch somewhere saying, come help me.
13:20So, we got all new bearings for this thing, all new wheel bearings all the way around, and a spare set for him to bring with just in case he has a problem.
13:26He can fix it himself off the side of the road.
13:28That's like your way of saying that you're concerned about my safety as I venture all the way west like that, which I appreciate.
13:34That's what I'm concerned about, exactly.
13:35He's like, don't call me in the middle of the night.
13:36Dude, if I end up in that other place where they only let me have one phone call, I'm calling you.
13:40Just know that.
13:41But now you can see, because we can't even fit the whole thing in here, right?
13:44It's still hanging out out there.
13:45That's why we put that big weight-distributing hitch on the back of the truck, too.
13:49So, the combination here is going to make the whole trip a lot better.
13:51You know, one thing, too, I noticed is, you know, it's got nice-looking wheels on it, nice hubcaps.
13:56You know, what we're going to do is take those out, though.
13:57And the reason being is, and not about aesthetics, it's about being practical.
14:01So, you're going down the road, and you're going to stop for fuel or use a restroom or whatever it might be.
14:05You want to go through and actually physically put hands on the area there, because if it's so hot to touch, you've got a problem with that wheel bearing.
14:11The only other thing you mentioned was the length of the dovetail coming behind the tires, right?
14:16Yeah, I could see that being a little troublesome, because you're driving along somebody, along the expressway, right?
14:20People see this trailer, they see the two vehicles, like, surely he's past me by now.
14:24And they go to cover, and they drive over the back of this trailer.
14:26Listen, people are excellent drivers, especially out on the interstates.
14:30They pay attention.
14:31I've seen it all.
14:31You know, they're very attentive when they're texting.
14:34I see the under over on people driving over the back of the trailer while you're going down the road is three.
14:39Well, it'll make for a good story.
14:40It really will.
14:41All right.
14:41Well, let's get to going.
14:43You want to lift this up a little bit?
14:45Yeah.
15:05So let's take a look at where we're at, and we will show you why it is so important to do this type of maintenance on the trailer right here.
15:11So here's the old bearing once we got everything apart and cleared up, and it's kind of tough.
15:15There's a lot of play in that, and you can see they're just, they're scuffed up pretty good.
15:19That's taken a good beating, so it's good to get that out of there.
15:21Here's the new one.
15:22You know, much tighter.
15:23Everything's clean.
15:24That looks much better.
15:26So out with the old, in with the new.
15:27But now let's come back down here on the axle.
15:29You know, you've got a bearing that rides here and one up here.
15:32This actually is, that's smooth.
15:34I mean, that feels good.
15:35And you come up here, and if you rub your, you know, your thumbnail or your pinky nail along that, you can feel there's a little bit of a groove, but it's not too bad.
15:43Not the end of the world.
15:43I think that's going to be good enough.
15:45So what we need to do now is get the races out of the hub, get the new races in there, new bearings all set up, and we can start putting this all back together.
15:52But that is why you do the maintenance, especially before a long trip.
15:56There we go.
15:57Who knows what we're going to get into on the other three.
15:58So the wheel bearings are installed, and the job is almost done right here.
16:23You know, we preloaded this nut right here so it's got the right pressure on it, pulled out the little lock so it can't back off.
16:28Now all we have to do is hit the Zert Fitting with the grease gun, and it'll fill that entire cavity up with grease.
16:33The way you know it's done is that grease will start coming out of that bearing.
16:37So this cap will go on the wheel and tire, and then we need to get this thing outside because the next thing we need to do is start loading it up with vehicles.
16:46Hotshot Secret has the perfect combination for protection and maintenance with their two-step oil program featuring the Stiction Eliminator and the FR3 Friction Reducer.
16:56The first step, add Stiction Eliminator.
16:59This powerful cleaner and lubricator reduces engine wear back to 62% more than oil alone.
17:05It quiets the engine, increases fuel economy, and restores power and compression.
17:10Next, add FR3 Friction Reducer during your following two oil changes.
17:14FR3 Friction Reducer uses a carbon nanolubricant which attaches to the metal surfaces inside your engine, increasing fuel economy and horsepower and reducing engine wear.
17:24And for some reason, if it doesn't live up to your expectations, Hotshot Secret offers a money-back guarantee.
17:31When it comes to high-performance brake lines, crown performance needs to be your go-to.
17:35And we talk about maybe it's a factory-fit set of lines or a completely custom set of lines.
17:40They've got them for both street and racing applications.
17:44These brake lines have virtually no volumetric expansion, which is that soft feeling you get with standard hoses.
17:50Instead, you get immediate brake pedal response.
17:52And that's because of the multi-layer construction, including the Teflon inner core that's not affected by atmospheric conditions.
17:59It's moisture-resistant, and it's very flexible.
18:02And that's because they're protected by both a layer of Kevlar and stainless steel.
18:06And the crown performance brake lines come with a one-piece, stronger designed end.
18:22All right, buddy.
18:49Safe travels, brother.
18:50Be good.
18:51Finally, some peace and quiet.
18:53Love it.
18:54Yo, what's up, dude?
18:55Surprise.
18:57Still here.
18:58Yeah.
18:58Who's driving?
18:59Pierre.
19:01P who?
19:01That's Ian's guy.
19:02Good dude.
19:03Why is Ian's guy driving your trunk?
19:06Because I'm not driving all the way across the country.
19:07Do you seriously think I was driving to California?
19:09Well, only because you told me you were driving all the way to California.
19:11I had to keep you motivated throughout the process.
19:13It worked.
19:14Like a charm.
19:14No, they fly me in, bro.
19:1520 years.
19:16Come on.
19:16I'm in my 21st year at Truck U.
19:18I get flown in for these things.
19:19I'm never going to get rid of them.
19:20No.
19:21I'm stuck with you forever, aren't I?
19:22Yes, you are.
19:23Yes.
19:23You're welcome.
19:24All right.
19:25Come on.
19:25Don't.
19:26Just don't.
19:26Don't overthink it, B.
19:27Come on.
19:58Hey, man.
20:06Welcome back.
20:07Good to be back, dude.
20:08Good to be back.
20:09We're on the street.
20:09You've been back for like a week.
20:10Well, I've been back in the area, but now I'm back here.
20:13Well, I know you had to do driving the rig, but you didn't come to work.
20:16Well, listen, when the truck shows up, I show up.
20:18That's kind of how it works.
20:19Speaking of showing up.
20:20Yes.
20:20I'm glad you're here in one piece and all, but I just can't help but ask.
20:23No.
20:24How awesome is this?
20:25I don't know how awesome is this.
20:27This is a project for next year.
20:28All right.
20:28So, like, what are we going to do with it?
20:30Well, I haven't figured that out yet, but as with any other project, I mean, half the
20:33battle is just getting the vehicle here.
20:35Now that it's here, we can start thinking about a plan for the future.
20:37That's half the battle.
20:38Yes.
20:39All right.
20:39So, it'll be continuing on with our lawn art is what it's going to be.
20:42Well, it could.
20:43Listen.
20:44Tell me the bones are not here for something cool, right?
20:46And this is different than anything.
20:47I see potential screaming.
20:49Yes.
20:49I just see a lot of work.
20:50But all right.
20:50We'll get to that later.
20:51We will get to that.
20:51Bye.
20:52I just had to address.
20:52All right.
20:53So, the trip.
20:53Tell me about it.
20:54The trip was great.
20:55The scenery was beautiful.
20:56You know, I haven't spent a lot of time in the desert or California, but, I mean, it was
20:59just absolutely beautiful.
21:00I was very impressed with the rigs and the driving and all that.
21:02It was a lot of fun, dude.
21:03Scorpion sounds like a blast.
21:03None of that.
21:04No?
21:04It was really cool.
21:05Like, I didn't know really what to expect, and it was awesome.
21:08The rig, though.
21:09I mean, we put a lot of work in this trailer into that truck, and it looks like it all came
21:11back in one piece.
21:12It did.
21:13No issues with the bearings.
21:14No issues with tires.
21:15The trailer did great.
21:16Nice job on those.
21:17Thank you, brother.
21:17The truck did great.
21:18All that extra storage that we had.
21:20I'm sure it came in handy.
21:20That's a long trip to go all the way out there and back with no issues.
21:24I don't think we should make any trips for a while.
21:26I think we wore out all of our good luck with that one.
21:29Right.
21:29All right, man.
21:29Well, that's all the time we got today for Truck U. Make sure you check out Build for Off-Road
21:32if you want to see the footage from that trip you were on.
21:35It was a good one.
