00:00It's doing very good here.
00:20Hey, well, we made it.
00:21Yes, sir.
00:22Just pull up to the nose of the graveyard.
00:25Then let's get out and have a look at this.
00:27Sounds good.
00:31Holy...
00:32That crater is really in there.
00:36At the far reaches of the frozen frontier...
00:39Yeah, it does look worse in person.
00:42The Harris Convoy is delivering a massive excavator
00:45so the local road crew can rescue their equipment
00:48from nature's frozen grasp.
00:51Well, I guess we'll dump it right here.
01:00Go that way just a little bit.
01:03Yeah, there you go.
01:03Perfect street.
01:05We've made a name for ourselves hauling huge loads.
01:09We do things other people don't want to do,
01:12too scared to do.
01:13You have to have your wits about you.
01:15Grab them off.
01:16You can't just throw any idiots into this position.
01:20What are we doing now?
01:21We had a client call us.
01:22He's got two file trucks that have to come south for repair.
01:25Okay.
01:26They need them ASAP.
01:28I guess we're going to head into Vaughn-A-Lock.
01:31I went around.
01:33Head of art.
01:34There's no rest for the wicked.
01:36Oh, this is going to be interesting.
01:40Or the Harris Convoy.
01:42I'm just still thinking about these winter roads that aren't open.
01:47We have not had the financial successes this season that we normally do,
01:52so we have to take on work in areas that we don't normally go to.
01:55You know, we all got payments.
01:56We all got a business to run.
01:59It's a battle, but we're scraping through it.
02:02While Sean and his sons dive deeper into the bush,
02:05heading to the remote community of Fond du Lac across Lake Athabasca,
02:09800 miles to the southeast.
02:22You guys, Scooter Ewell, is a man on a mission.
02:25Where am I going?
02:27I got a little bet going, Lisa.
02:30Who can haul the most miles?
02:32What were you thinking about agreeing to a bet with Lisa Kelly?
02:36Who said I was thinking?
02:37Well, let's throw a $100 bet down,
02:39see who can run the most miles this winter road.
02:42That's awesome.
02:43You're going up north.
02:44Okay.
02:45Quite up north.
02:48Lots of hills to climb.
02:50And at the bottom of every single hill, there's a sharp turn.
02:54This load is quite important,
02:56and there's a big push to get the building materials in there.
02:58You're going to be quite heavy.
03:00You're at 43,000 pounds.
03:02Huh.
03:03So you're going to be the heaviest truck that's gone in there this year,
03:07which will restrict you to night travel only.
03:09So it's going to be challenging for you to see kind of the hills engaged,
03:13how big of a drop it is.
03:14Yeah.
03:15It will be a doozy.
03:16So it's going to be an adventure of a lifetime.
03:19Oh, yeah.
03:20Scooter's night mission is a 400-mile gauntlet
03:23to the remote community of Kiwawin.
03:25I'm hauling some building material in this for their infrastructure.
03:29They're dependent on us.
03:30And they want a hell of a load.
03:33We're going to have some fun with this one.
03:35Time to make some tracks.
03:38We can get on the road and get out of here.
03:41Safety, M.O.
03:42What the f*** is this s***?
03:48What does this say?
03:51And this is Trucking 101 for Dummies.
03:53Are you worried that other drivers are clearly better than you are?
03:57Are you driving a big yellow truck?
03:59Then this video is especially for you.
04:01So to turn the truck on, you have to use a key.
04:04This is the key.
04:05This is a steering wheel.
04:06This is how we go around corners.
04:08This is a gear shifter.
04:10It has 18 gears.
04:11I am very well known for pulling pranks.
04:14But Lisa got me first.
04:17Yeah, with her little safety video.
04:19If you're in a miles race with a veteran driver,
04:21you may as well just give up now.
04:24Oh, it's on.
04:26It is on.
04:28Smart ass.
04:29You just wait, you little s***.
04:31She thinks she can play this on me.
04:33Ah!
04:35Oh, I'm so evil with pranking.
04:38I'm coming for you, Lisa.
04:40Lisa, I'm coming for you.
04:46Blasting into the frozen wilderness.
04:49Inbound 100.
04:51Veteran Lisa Kelly has her own plan to win the debt.
04:54This is a good road for the miles race that Scootie Poo has going on.
05:01I need miles.
05:03What do you got?
05:03That's a long, long, long ways.
05:05I just picked up a load here that's perfect for you.
05:09Lac Brochet is very far north.
05:11It's one of the longest trips we can get.
05:12It's a new potential client.
05:14This single load can open up the door to a bunch of opportunities for Muskie Creek.
05:19Is there any polar bears there?
05:20If you see one, take a picture and send it to me.
05:23Lisa's on the longest haul of the season so far.
05:26Running 900 miles from Muskie Creek to the remote community of Lac Brochet.
05:32I have drums of oil.
05:34I feel like they could get punctured easier.
05:36I don't want my load to catch on fire.
05:38It'll definitely combust.
05:40These drums of oil remind me of when I was driving the barrels of fuel up and over the rotating pass in India.
05:49It's definitely out of my comfort zone.
05:53How can you get used to driving these roads?
05:55They're so scary.
05:56It's insane.
05:57And I hope it's all one big mistake with flammable loads like this.
06:02You know, it's all over.
06:06Yeah, this is funky.
06:07It's really bumpy.
06:13It could break.
06:16Oh, gosh.
06:17Oh, gosh.
06:18Hopefully I can get the load there.
06:20It's going to be the heaviest load going in on a road that is a goat trail.
06:36Deep in the frozen frontier.
06:38And with the heavy load, they want us to travel in a night.
06:41Despite the urgency of his goat trail night mission.
06:44Temperatures are colder then.
06:46Firmer on the road.
06:47I'm not going to beat it up as bad.
06:48Scooter makes time for one important stop.
06:55I know I'm about to go on the land.
06:58It's not mine.
07:01I'm about to go on a trip I've never been on.
07:04But I'm going to offer this tobacco blessing to the creator, to the land.
07:14Hope for the best.
07:16I'm Mick Mack.
07:17Mick Maugh, actually, it's pronounced from the East Coast.
07:21Offering tobacco makes me feel good because I'm giving something back to the creator.
07:25It grounds me, it centers me, it gives me a sense of hope.
07:29That's what I need out there sometimes.
07:32Hopefully they look out for me out there.
07:35This is going to be one hell of a ride.
07:37The evening is trying not to die, too.
07:39Almost a day into Lisa's longest of long holes.
07:49Oh, ow, ow, ow.
07:53The driver and truck are feeling the pain.
07:57I did not even see that.
08:00Oh.
08:01Oh, wow.
08:02There's a big billow of smoke coming out.
08:04Oh, crap.
08:05And there's a hill right here.
08:06No, I can't safely stop here.
08:08This is a pretty narrow road.
08:13I really can't stop here.
08:15Brake's overheated.
08:20I gotta get pulled over.
08:24Oh, good gosh.
08:26Yeah.
08:28Oh, it's not my favorite spot, but I need to get stopped and see what's going on.
08:38On a ribbon of ice cutting through the wilderness.
08:53Brake's overheated.
08:55Lisa's brakes are on fire.
08:58The truck's on fire.
08:58Oh, holy cow.
09:01I'm going to throw snow on it.
09:03Holy crap.
09:04That's hot.
09:06I'm trying to get the brakes to cool down.
09:10It's stinky.
09:12I'm just not doing very good here.
09:15Nobody likes to smell the brakes.
09:16It's cooling down a little bit.
09:24Probably got to get that one out before it burst out in flames and burn the whole trailer down.
09:28Yeah, it just must have hung up or something.
09:31My guess is that that brake's adjusted too tight, and I just got to back it off some.
09:36I got to grab a warmer jacket and some tools so I can back that off of there, but, oh, yeah, of course we have dangerous goods.
09:43Don't get too hot in here.
09:44An open source of fire.
09:47Yeah, all right.
09:48Let me see where the slack adjuster is here.
09:50Lisa's trailer brakes were knocked out of alignment.
09:56Now, the brake shoes are dragging on the drums, causing them to overheat and catch fire.
10:01I'm going to back that off.
10:03It doesn't need to come back far.
10:05Come on.
10:06By tweaking the slack adjuster, Lisa's increasing the gap between the shoes and the drum.
10:11I need some leverage here.
10:24There we go.
10:26Okay, that should be enough.
10:28Then I'll fix the problem.
10:30All right.
10:36All right.
10:37That's good.
10:39I need to addle.
10:41I got places to be.
10:43Two hundred miles to the west.
10:53Hey, Riley, you can pull onto the ice.
10:56The 13-mile expanse of Lake Athabasca stands between the Harris convoy and their urgent pickup in Fond du Lac.
11:04Zach, you just kind of stay on the approach off to the side.
11:07We don't want both trucks right on the ice right here.
11:1110-4.
11:16We are pulling onto Lake Athabasca.
11:19We got the three of us going across here.
11:26Something that we've never, ever done before.
11:29Ice road trucking.
11:30It's a dangerous job.
11:31I've had several close calls.
11:33Riley and Zach are both new to these roads.
11:36So, yeah, you're always going to worry about your kids.
11:38So, when we get out there, say, 1.2 kilometers apart, 15 kilometers an hour, you meet another loaded truck, go down to 8 kilometers and pull out as wide as you can.
11:49All right, let's grab her.
11:55My dad, he's willing to put himself in pretty risky situations to get a job done.
12:01It's a little bit scary.
12:02I'm making my way out into the ice here.
12:06But I want to prove to him that I can do it.
12:09Riley and Zach are waiting to take over the family business.
12:13I think I proved a long time ago that I could run the trucking side of the business.
12:18Zach looks after everything on the farming side.
12:21He doesn't love driving trucks the way that my dad and I love doing it.
12:26But before that happens, they need to conquer the ice roads.
12:30And this is their biggest test yet.
12:33We are on the ice.
12:36On the ice, overconfidence can be deadly.
12:41If they drive too fast, the trucks will create a pressure wave that breaks through the ice from the bottom.
12:49If they drive too close, the combined weight could break through the ice from the top.
12:54Either way, it could be their first and last ice crossing.
13:00Am I nervous?
13:05Of course, I think you always have that little bit of what if in the back of your head.
13:11I always worry a little bit.
13:13I've heard a lot of scary stories about the ice.
13:16My uncle fell through halfway between Fond du Lac and Uranium City.
13:23Oh, it was devastating.
13:24I mean, you know, you work in these dangerous places and your family never wants to get that call.
13:29But sometimes it happens.
13:30I don't want to leave my family without me.
13:37I'd like to know how deep it is right now, but I also don't want to know.
13:41If a truck goes through the ice, it'll sink a while before it hits the bottom.
13:46The convoy is crossing one of North America's deepest lakes.
13:50Are you hearing any cracking or popping?
13:54Actually, no.
13:58It's pretty quiet.
13:59When the ice is loud and cracking, like it's strong, that's good ice.
14:04It's when you don't hear any noises.
14:06That's usually when you kind of start peeking around, like, oh, what's going on?
14:09Why is there no weird noises?
14:13You think you've been in some wild places until you're up here?
14:16This is the real deal.
14:23Just going across the last about 100 yards of ice here.
14:28And we're going to be rolling into the community of Bondala.
14:34That a boy.
14:35First trip across the ice.
14:36It's awesome.
14:38So, how was that?
14:40Well, we didn't fall through.
14:42That's always a bonus.
14:44I imagine your brother's pretty happy to see the shore.
14:46He was nervous.
14:48Way to go, my boy.
14:49Proud of you.
14:51You did awesome today.
14:53You didn't die.
14:54You killed it, man.
14:54You killed it.
14:55You survived.
14:57First crossing.
14:59With my first trip under my belt, it was a huge confidence boost.
15:02Oh!
15:03Get out of the way.
15:04I've always wanted the boys to get the exposure on the ice,
15:08because that is a big part of our business.
15:10Never been prouder.
15:12I couldn't be happier.
15:13Let's make some track.
15:16Hey.
15:26Hey, Bill.
15:27Good to see you again.
15:28I'm going to send you up to Casa Bonica.
15:31Load going up there is some building materials for a job site.
15:34Okay.
15:34I've got to get this material up there very quickly,
15:37because there's a screener in Casa Bonica that may need to get brought back.
15:40Okay.
15:40It's critical that you get back here in a timely fashion.
15:42You will be heavy on your way out.
15:45Big piece of machinery.
15:46But you're going to be traveling the Ashwick Road.
15:48Lots of hills, turns, bumpiness.
15:51One of the most notorious roads.
15:53I've been on it before.
15:54I'm ready.
15:55The Ashwick Road will tear the absolute crap out of your body and your truck.
16:00It's a nasty road.
16:01Todd's battle with the notorious Ashwick Road extends 550 miles to the northern outpost of Casa Bonica.
16:16So it looks like the community's definitely giving us a note up here.
16:27They don't want any chains on the road.
16:29That means they don't want their ice road tore up.
16:32They don't want their ice crossings tore up.
16:33So we're going to follow the rules.
16:35No chains.
16:41This road is my nemesis in a way.
16:44About seven years ago in my last season up here.
16:46I was delivering a load and on this road.
16:49The road was the most brutal road that I think had ever put a truck through.
16:54Hold on.
16:57Oh!
16:59I hit a rock and just busted a hole cleaning my radiator.
17:05I can honestly say for the first f***ing time, I've actually been f***ing defeated on a f***ing ice road.
17:12I wasn't able to get the truck out.
17:14It didn't make it.
17:14So, you know, this is kind of like a redemption run, I guess.
17:17Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
17:21Whoo!
17:22Whoo!
17:23Whoo!
17:23Whoo!
17:23Whoo!
17:23Trailer took off on me right there.
17:26There you go.
17:26Nope!
17:27That was a little bad.
17:28Ah!
17:29I'm losing control on that one.
17:30Son of a b***h!
17:33It's going to be a nasty road.
17:35It's going to be a long night.
17:36It's just a reminder of how brutal this road could be at all times.
17:41Hang on!
17:41I'm going to get a little bit bumpy.
17:45Hang on.
17:48I want to even the score this time on this one.
17:50I want to get in there and get out of there with my truck this time.
17:53Not without my truck.
17:55This is a bad, bad rough shape.
17:57My goodness sakes.
18:01You're joking me?
18:03The road's breaking through all over the frickin' place.
18:06Hold on.
18:06Big bump.
18:07Big bump.
18:08Hang on.
18:09Hang on.
18:10Hang on.
18:19Deep in the frozen darkness.
18:21Hang on.
18:22Todd's getting a violent reintroduction to his old nemesis, Ashwick Road.
18:31The Ashwick Road is definitely a challenge.
18:34I went in with a truck before and came out with no truck.
18:37That road is my nemesis road.
18:39I will fight and battle until the bitter end.
18:43You're driving on three, four feet of snow that's been packed down,
18:46and when that all freezes up tight and it starts to break apart,
18:50then you fall through those broken spots.
18:52And they are like massive, deep chuck holes.
18:55Once they suck your truck in,
18:57if you ain't got enough speed to bring your front end up out of it,
19:00you're stuck.
19:03It's pretty flat out there.
19:07That has got to be an ice crossing.
19:13I'm unsure about this ice, and I am by myself.
19:15Well, I don't want to take a chance, so I'm going to go check it out and see what I can see.
19:23The ice could either be a welcomed ceasefire between Todd and Ashwick Road...
19:27Ooh, she's chilly out!
19:29...or an icy ambush.
19:31Solid ice.
19:36About two inches of snow on the top.
19:40Definitely an ice crossing.
19:41We definitely have water.
19:43There's no turning back down.
19:44All right, here we go.
19:52My crossing is spooky.
19:54You can't see the ice.
19:55Daytime, you can see it a lot better.
19:56All I got is what I can see with my headlights, and that's it.
19:59It is cold.
20:01My face is freezing, but I ain't going to take a chance.
20:03I don't care.
20:03I want to hear what the ice is doing.
20:09You hear that popping?
20:12One more spooky out here by yourself in the middle of the night.
20:15Nobody else around.
20:17Makes a guy nervous, because if something happens, you are completely on your own.
20:20About seven miles an hour, 15 kilometers an hour, and I can't see the end of the ice yet.
20:31This is a way bigger crossing than I expected.
20:38This looks like it might be the other side right here.
20:42It always feels good to roll on land off the ice.
20:45All of a sudden, you get that big relief of...
20:48One more ice crossing down, baby.
20:51Another one for the boots.
20:58Also burning the midnight oil, Scooter Ewell is pushing into the frigid darkness on a road he's never seen.
21:05You're going to cut it.
21:07I'm in the key way wind.
21:09Enjoy the good road while I'm on.
21:13This is not a very nice road already.
21:17Holy...
21:17We definitely don't want to drop here.
21:23Something happened.
21:25We got a truck to move down.
21:27Oh, we just hit that only doing five-globs in the snow.
21:31That's worth it.
21:34Driving at night, it's dangerous.
21:36Especially if you've never been there before.
21:38If dips, if rocks that are in the snow that you can't see, unexpected hazards.
21:43Definitely extreme trucking here.
21:50That's a doozy of them, bang.
21:57Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
21:58Just hit him.
21:59Come on.
22:00Up and over we go.
22:01Oh, dang.
22:03Holy...
22:04Holy...
22:05I feel like a martini.
22:10Shaken, not stirred.
22:12Oh, sh...
22:12We're getting into worse sections here.
22:15Oh, yeah.
22:17Oh, yeah.
22:19Oh, we're losing.
22:21We're losing.
22:21We're losing.
22:25Oh, me.
22:32It's terrible.
22:35Just terrible.
22:37Freaking terrible.
22:40Under the same moonless night...
22:42Whoa.
22:44Holy moly.
22:45Lisa's running low on visibility.
22:47I can't see out the mirrors.
22:50All right, I'm going to stop right here.
22:54All right.
23:02I need to see out of my window.
23:04It's always freaking something, isn't it?
23:08Yep.
23:13My window just fell down in the door.
23:16It's a dingy window.
23:18Now it's just stuck.
23:19Are you serious?
23:22It's already freaking cold in here.
23:25I am not driving with a window down.
23:28Unwilling to continue while exposed to the frigid night air,
23:31Lisa's chances of making her offload tonight
23:34are falling faster than the nighttime temperature.
23:38As an ice road trucker,
23:39you've got to be ready for anything at any time.
23:41You get the job done,
23:42I just have to get back on the road.
23:43I want to take the door panel off.
23:45You have to be able to make the best of situations.
23:48I got this tool and this tool and this problem.
23:50How am I going to fix it with these?
23:52Go to yourself.
23:53Don't roll the window down anymore.
23:55I mean, aren't doors overrated?
24:01Oh, mother...
24:02It's not working!
24:11Back on the northern goat trail.
24:14Come on, baby.
24:16Scooter's also trying to get back on the road.
24:19Come on.
24:20When I'm going into a situation
24:23where I've never driven before,
24:25I don't know what's going to happen.
24:27So I have to be ready to think on the fly.
24:31This is going to be a nightmare.
24:37Ice roads will always throw something at you.
24:40There's always a curveball coming.
24:42Come on.
24:45Can I get a little forward?
24:47I'm going to try to move backwards.
24:48Come on.
24:50Let's see if I can make it work here.
24:59Come on.
25:01Yeah!
25:10Threw me right into the bank.
25:12That one made my heart stop for a sec.
25:15Last thing we need in midnight tonight here
25:17to be stuck in the middle of nowhere
25:18with no one around to help.
25:20This is just the start of my journey.
25:26I can only imagine what's coming next.
25:28I'm talking with fellow drivers.
25:34That inbound truck is quite the freaking road here.
25:38It's a heavy gun.
25:39This building will slide all the way back down if you don't make it.
25:44It's doable, but you're going to hit like a madman.
25:46It's a heavy gun.
25:47It's not going to be on fire.
25:48It's a heavy gun.
25:49Oh, no.
25:50I'll just have to enter away.
25:51It's a bad gun.
25:52It's a heavy gun.
25:53These roads are narrow, dangerous, slippery.
25:57It's on neither of you corners with bumps.
26:07Hang on to your butt.
26:09This is where everybody else is sliding down backwards.
26:13Can't even get a good run on.
26:20Come on, Big Bear, come on.
26:24No, no, no, no, no.
26:25Come on, Big Bear, come on.
26:26No, Big Bear, come on.
26:30Ah.
26:34Ah.
26:37Oh, come on.
26:39Don't you do this.
26:41Ah, I'm sliding, sliding.
26:46I'm sliding back down.
26:52Ah.
26:53Here we go. I'm done. Here we go.
27:04I'm toast.
27:11It's going to be such a frozen popsicle.
27:15Alone and stopped in the depths of the frozen darkness.
27:19This is going to be a nightmare.
27:21I hate chasing.
27:25Neither scooter.
27:26I am not driving with a window down.
27:29Nor Lisa.
27:30The window, like, just broke.
27:33It's just not going to move.
27:35Are logging miles toward their bet.
27:38I got a proposition.
27:40Let's see who can run the most miles this winter road.
27:42I think you're going to lose.
27:46Both drivers need to fix their ridge to get rolling.
27:49I mean, it goes up-ish.
27:54You see here how this works.
27:56Lisa's improvised surgery on her door reveals the window control hardware is broken.
28:02I think I could jam something down under the window to hold it up.
28:07I'm thinking sticks.
28:10So, I'm going to get a stick.
28:13And I'm going to go hunt a moose.
28:16Cook it on my turbo and survive right here.
28:19When the job gets really difficult, I really don't have time to think about anything else.
28:24I am focused on, right now, I need to survive this minute.
28:27I need a nice thick stick.
28:29What if Bigfoot's out there?
28:33I'd like to say I've proven myself over the years.
28:35Because it used to be like, what's it like to be a woman in a man's world?
28:39Holy moly.
28:41Now I'm like, I don't care what they think.
28:43Because I've been up here longer than most of them.
28:45Ah!
28:45I might have some troubles, but I'll get it figured out and I'll get it done.
28:50I can't touch the bottom and I'm sitting on my crotch right now.
28:54I've never used a Leatherman's saw before, but I guess it's a first turn for everything.
28:59I've got this nice guy in a four-wheeler stopping here to help me out.
29:06Hey, I see your four-wheeler's on.
29:08Uh, yeah.
29:08Do you need some help?
29:09I do.
29:10My window won't go up.
29:12And I'm going to try to put these under it, but I'm not strong enough to lift the window
29:17and put the sticks in there at the same time.
29:20Hey, well, why don't I give you a hand?
29:21I'll put it up here for you.
29:22Yeah, I can't even lift it.
29:25Yeah, you're way stronger than me.
29:28Okay, so...
29:28Okay, try that.
29:29Close to the center.
29:32Yay.
29:34I really appreciate your help.
29:36Have a good trip.
29:38Have a good one.
29:39Our rule up on the road is you stop and help anybody who's pulled over and got the hood
29:44open.
29:44Give this a shot.
29:46This is how we do it up here.
29:48It's up.
29:49It's never coming down again.
29:53Now it's nice and toasty in here for a chance.
29:55Scooter's only chance to free his truck from the clutches of the northern wilderness is
30:14to chain up so he can chew through the ice.
30:17No driver wants to chain up.
30:19You're working out in these cold temperatures, trying to struggle with chains.
30:24It does take a toll on your body.
30:27Oh, no.
30:29Oh, these don't even look like the right chains.
30:32Right off.
30:36They have the wrong chains in this truck.
30:41We're predicament.
30:42When I looked at the chains, they said, no, there's 24s in there, but these hard chains
30:50are obviously for 22s.
30:52A, my fault that before I left that yard, I should have tried them and made sure.
30:58Yes.
31:00But B, if a truck comes fully equipped, it should be fully equipped.
31:07So now I'm going to have to be creative.
31:09Sometimes I'm just going to dig around and look for something.
31:12And the only thing I'm going to find is bungee cords laying in the bunk.
31:15I'm going to do the one thing I don't want to do.
31:20Right now I'm going to throw some bungee cords on it, tighten it up a little bit.
31:24I've got a redneck.
31:26How long is it going to last?
31:27I don't know.
31:29I've been able to have a lot of situations in all my life.
31:32It's the only way you can survive in this world.
31:35Oh, yeah.
31:36Some unfortunate circumstances happened in my life.
31:39I had nothing left, and it changed me.
31:44I love my job.
31:45I love my job.
31:47It gave me a sense of clarity of where I want to be in my life and who I want to be.
31:51I will never quit.
31:52I will just keep pushing, because nothing in this life is easy.
31:57Let's kick this road's ass before it kicks mine.
32:00But I'm not going to sit back and cry about it.
32:02I am going to do something about it and keep struggling to go forward.
32:05Help me out here.
32:08Hang on for the ride.
32:11Come on, baby.
32:12Come on.
32:18Come on, baby.
32:19Come on.
32:19Eat.
32:20Eat.
32:20Eat.
32:20Eat.
32:20Eat.
32:20Eat.
32:22Eat.
32:23Eat.
32:24Eat.
32:24Eat.
32:24Eat.
32:24Eat.
32:35Eat.
32:36Eat.
32:37Eat.
32:38Eat.
32:39Eat.
32:40Eat.
32:41Eat.
32:42Eat.
32:43Eat.
32:44Eat.
32:45Eat.
32:46Eat.
32:47Eat.
32:48Eat.
32:49Eat.
32:50Eat.
32:51Eat.
32:52Eat.
32:53Eat.
32:54Eat.
32:55Eat.
32:56Eat.
32:57Eat.
32:58Eat.
32:59Eat.
33:00Eat.
33:01Eat.
33:02Eat.
33:03Eat.
33:04Eat.
33:05At the edge of the map, on the frigid northern shore of Lake Athabasca.
33:21Keep going.
33:22Okay, now straight out now.
33:23There you go, keep going.
33:25Right there, perfect.
33:26Now we're cooking with God.
33:28The Harris family is loading two cloud trucks that are heading south for repairs.
33:33That looks good.
33:34It's on there and ready to go.
33:36Fifteen minutes ahead of schedule, that's always a good thing.
33:41Hey, Dad.
33:43Huh?
33:43This tire is way low.
33:46Every possible situation you can think of for a breakdown, I've encountered it.
33:51So, we have a flat tire here.
33:54If I had a dollar for every time I've done this, I'd be very rich.
33:57There's nobody coming with a service truck to save you.
34:00You're on your own most of the time.
34:01The deflated tire needs to be popped back onto the rim so it can be re-inflated.
34:06We're going to use just a manual air hose to fill it up.
34:09And then we're going to fill it full of brake light antifreeze.
34:12Light it on fire, explode it, and put air in it.
34:14Filling the rim of the tire with the flammable fluid and lighting it creates an explosion,
34:19which can pop the tire back in place so it can be filled.
34:23Probably going to get one shot at this.
34:27Just like that.
34:28Oh!
34:28And I'm just going to fill her up until it almost blows again.
34:35That's how you fix the tire in the bush, boys.
34:40My dad is just about great at everything.
34:43He can fix, he can manage, he can lead.
34:45He's superhuman.
34:46It's crazy.
34:46And as a bonus, you get to warm up while you're doing it.
34:49That puts a fair bit of pressure on me, because I don't always know if I quite measure up to his skills.
34:55Things are just going to come along and learn how to deal with it as we go.
35:00We're going to go on to Lake Athabasca.
35:02Head for the ice now?
35:03Yeah, head for the ice.
35:05We're just going to turn and burn.
35:06We don't have time to piss around.
35:07Okay, take two.
35:10We're southbound and down.
35:11As the Harris convoy heads back across the lake.
35:19800 miles to the southeast.
35:24This is looking familiar.
35:27All right, we're here.
35:29That's it.
35:31The bell has rung on Todd's second round against Ashwick Road.
35:37Finally conquered my nemesis road.
35:40The weather has definitely changed.
35:44We've got snow flying.
35:46You never know when a storm is going to roll in.
35:47Hopefully, I can just get the load in as fast as I can.
35:51Turn and burn out of there.
35:52Because you don't know what Mother Nature is going to blow in.
35:55This slide is pretty easy, I think.
35:57I hope.
36:00Oh, yeah.
36:02The pivot point.
36:03You'll be able to set it down on the ground.
36:05Now for the front.
36:07Get the front lifted up.
36:09There it is.
36:09Yeah, you're good.
36:10All right.
36:13There he goes.
36:15Load.
36:16Delivered.
36:16Woo!
36:18Now Todd needs to turn and burn.
36:21Looks like it's a pretty heavy machine.
36:23If it fits on the trailer, it doesn't matter anything else.
36:25It's movable.
36:26He's hauling back a massive and heavy piece of machinery called a rock screener.
36:32Does it fit the ships?
36:33Yeah, it fits the ships.
36:34Absolutely.
36:35They built a really nice snow ramp over there to load this machine.
36:41All right.
36:41If you want to back down, you want to just turn it around.
36:44The motor's on the ass end of it with the big hopper on the back.
36:47Just turning it around is going to create a little bit more weight onto the drivers of my truck,
36:52and that's going to give me a little bit more traction on the ice roads.
36:54It's round three with Ashwick Road, and the score is one to one.
37:00This final run determines the winner between the ice road trucker and the baddest road in the northern wilderness.
37:07One of the worst roads up in the great white north I've ever been on.
37:11Perfect.
37:11So I want this thing as sturdy and bolted down as hard and as strong as I could possibly get.
37:18This Ashwick Road is, uh, it's a nasty road.
37:23Well, right now, the score is even on this road.
37:26One for the road and one for me.
37:28Woo!
37:31She's going to be a rough one.
37:32On the northern edge of the world.
37:49Just arriving at Lac Roche.
37:52Lisa's delivering her explosive cargo to Musky Creek's crucial new client.
37:58Lac Roche is a new potential client.
38:00This single load can open up the door to a bunch of opportunities for Musky Creek,
38:05and I really want to capitalize on it.
38:07Okay.
38:09Woo-hoo!
38:12I'm going to run through this little hill here.
38:16I'm here!
38:17I can offload and reload and leave!
38:20Woo-hoo!
38:23All my oil is tight still.
38:26None of them fell off.
38:27My waste, flammable, liquid products survived.
38:31Good deal!
38:33I'm a happy camper.
38:35Rowdy turned over to 800,000 kilometers on this trip.
38:40Happy birthday to Rowdy.
38:42I think I thought of a good name for the truck.
38:44I've just been pounding it and jumping and bumping,
38:48and I kind of really like the name Rowdy,
38:50so I think I'm going to name the truck Rowdy.
38:54The way she acts is about the equivalent of like a 75-year-old woman.
38:59This poor truck's falling apart.
39:00Needs a new everything.
39:02I don't think I have heat.
39:03Now it's just stuck.
39:05Are you serious?
39:07I'm trying to get the brakes to cool down.
39:09Oh, I lost a buddy parched.
39:12Oh, my hair.
39:16This is a really good run for the miles race,
39:18because this is one of the longest roads.
39:20I accomplished my goal.
39:22I should be able to have dessert tonight.
39:25Cool.
39:26Get this unstrapped.
39:26I hope Scootie Puff is successful,
39:30but I hope he's slower and gets shorter runs.
39:35At the end of a slower run on a shorter road...
39:39Well, I finally arrived.
39:43Scooter also stacked up miles.
39:46I feel beat up, chewed up, spit out.
39:49And they were hard-earned.
39:54Oh, no, no, no, no.
39:56Oh, I'm sliding, sliding.
39:59I'm done.
40:00Come on.
40:04We're heading to go get offloaded.
40:06Key Baven Road has been the most challenging pain-in-the-air road I've ever been on.
40:10Mentally, physically, emotionally drained.
40:13Got the building material here that the community needs.
40:16It stayed on, and it's been hanging on like...
40:19It's been hanging on.
40:21There's no words to describe.
40:22That shows you right there the infrastructure problems they have.
40:25There's a home that's burnt.
40:28They need to replace that home.
40:30People don't realize that all these communities depend on these supplies to survive to the next year.
40:35All right.
40:36That's your material.
40:37The fun part is going to be that cement.
40:38All the material got here safe, despite the amount of struggles we went through getting it here.
40:53It's really important that they get it so they can start building.
40:57I noticed there was a house burnt in the community there.
41:00Yeah.
41:00Just going to help us out there, the community.
41:03Well, at least make some people happy to have a nice...
41:06Get a new home, warm in.
41:07Yeah.
41:08This job is physically hard.
41:10It's mentally hard also.
41:12So when you have successfully delivered something to a community, it's a sense of accomplishment.
41:16You know, you've made somebody's day or their month or their year.
41:20I appreciate your help, man.
41:21Thank you very much.
41:22Yeah.
41:23I hope to see you again.
41:24You'll be telling me out of the snowbank eventually.
41:26Yeah.
41:26Have a good day.
41:28You too.
41:29Off to the next adventure.
41:31To win this bet, I'm with Lisa.
41:33I'm going to have to drive hard.
41:34A lot of hours.
41:35I've got to conquer this road.
41:37I don't like to lose.
41:44Team broke.
41:45It's broke because it's so stinking cold out here.
41:51That was close to the cold.
41:55Come on!
41:56We lost our radio.
41:57It's not working.
41:58It's dead.
42:01I've got a load on that is right at the limit.
42:04Come on, baby!
42:05Get you in there.
42:06Come on!
