00:00We're also expecting the Chancellor to make it more expensive to drive an electric car
00:03with some sort of pay per mile scheme.
00:05So I'm not going to pre-empt the budget.
00:07I know that the Chancellor will be on your show next week
00:10and can answer questions about the announcement that she's going to make.
00:13As we make the transition to electric vehicles,
00:16I think two things can be true at the same time.
00:18We need a fair vehicle taxation system for all motorists
00:22because EVs like drivers of petrol and diesel cars,
00:27they're driving on roads that require maintenance.
00:29We've got ageing infrastructure, motorways that were built back in the 60s and 70s.
00:34And so we need to have a fair taxation system that is future-focused.
00:38But we're not going to do anything to jeopardise the transition to electric vehicles.
00:43And that will remain front and centre.
