00:00Okay, the third. Seeking strength for your heart to withstand life's tests. This is a big one.
00:19Every day we're tested. Sometimes the tests are small, sometimes the tests are big.
00:24But let's talk about big tests. What are some big tests in life? Call them out.
00:27Death is a big... death in the family, death of a loved one, death of a friend.
00:32Other tests? Money related, money problems.
00:38Sickness, illness, sure. Failure, disappointment, you know.
00:44Bayina exam is not a... well, there's a test.
00:48Natural disaster, also Bayina exam on Friday.
00:54Family and kids can be a test. Relationships can be tests, right?
00:58We can have trouble with our parents sometimes.
01:00We can have trouble with spouses, trouble with siblings, trouble with friends.
01:04Isolation can be a test. You feel lonely. You feel like nobody understands you.
01:08You feel like everybody hates you. Addiction can be a test, sure.
01:11Now, the idea here is these tests, when people are going through a hard time, what do they need?
01:17Again, call it out.
01:17Comfort. Solace.
01:21Support. Someone to talk to.
01:23Someone to vent to.
01:26You know how many people come up to me and say, I need to talk to you for two minutes?
01:29That's usually two hours.
01:31I have this thing that I can only talk to you about.
01:33No one else on the planet will understand my problem.
01:39Except you, because you're on YouTube.
01:44But in all reality, not to dismiss people's issues.
01:49People need someone to talk to.
01:51And people, more than anything else, need someone to give them hope.
01:55Show them a light at the end of the tunnel.
01:57Convince them that they can get through this.
01:59They are stronger than the trial that they're facing.
02:02That whatever they're going through, there has to be some good in it.
02:06You know?
02:07They need that.
02:08And they need somebody to say that in a loving way, in a kind way, in a comforting way.
02:13You know?
02:13And when that kind of comfort and love, it comes from someone with more authority.
02:18Like you know when your younger brother says that to you, you're like, eh.
02:21But when your grandfather says it to you, it means something more.
02:24When your dad says it to you, when your teacher says it to you, when a great scholar says it to you,
02:29it just kind of, okay.
02:31And the husband says, I've been saying that to you all this time, it didn't mean nothing.
02:34And he said the same exact thing, and all of a sudden, ah, I feel so much better.
02:39Why?
02:39Because when somebody from a position of authority comforts you,
02:43the comforting itself is authoritative.
02:47One of the roles of the Qur'an in the life of a believer is, I'm having trouble.
02:51I need someone to comfort me.
02:53And guess what is going to comfort you?
02:56The Word of Allah is going to comfort you.
02:58You're going to open up the Qur'an, and you're going to read something,
03:01and it's going to bring you comfort exactly in regards to your trial.
03:05One of my best friends in life, back in New York, I won't tell you his name,
03:09because this recording will go up somewhere, and he'll say, hey, you mentioned my name.
03:11So I'm not going to tell you his name.
03:15But he's from Bayshore, Long Island.
03:18Anyway, so he, some one time, like, this is like maybe 12 years ago,
03:25he's like, hey, so, how do we get guidance from the Qur'an?
03:28I need guidance from the Qur'an.
03:30Where do you begin?
03:31What do you look up, like, an index?
03:33If you have problems with patients, read these ayat.
03:35If you have problems with health, read these ayat.
03:37What do you do?
03:38I was like, hey, try this, try this.
03:39Next time you have a problem, just have a mushaf with you, a copy of Qur'an with you,
03:43and just randomly open any page and start reading.
03:47But read with the intention that you're looking for Allah to give you comfort, to give you guidance.
03:52This is guidance to the heart.
03:54Just read.
03:54See what happens.
03:57Two weeks in a row, every night I meet him at Isha, he says, hey, yo, bro, it worked again.
04:01Yo, man, it worked again.
04:02It's crazy.
04:03People don't know about this, man.
04:06This is so crazy.
04:06I had this problem, and I was reading, and like, third ayat I read, I was like, whoa!
04:11That's exactly what I was reading.
04:13That's what it's supposed to be.
04:16But the Qur'an will not give you that if you come to it as a critic, remember?
04:20Qur'an will only give you that when you come to it as a seeker.
04:25It'll give you comfort.
04:26It'll become your companion.
04:28And that salah will be therapy.
04:30That salah will be, you know, you can go see a counselor, and then you can go talk to Allah.
04:35And Allah will talk to you.
04:38It'll become a thing of beauty.
04:39That's really, you know, when you, you can learn Qur'an, you can internalize it, you can understand a lot of Qur'an.
04:45You know when you really taste Qur'an is when this therapy happens.
04:48And a lot of times this therapy happens in the middle of salah.
04:53That's the most, those are the most beautiful moments in a believer's life.
04:55When those moments happen, when the ayah hits you like a lightning bolt about the exact problem you were having.
05:02Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
05:04That's a high.
05:04That's really cool.
